Orbit - Redux

This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.

“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

About 20-22 hour work.
I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.

This is the HTC Hero Widget based on iVillain by Justflikwalk and customized by eCAR.
It doesn't change any icon or dock background, it just add the Widget on your LockScreen (not on the Springboard...).
By default, it take the background of "User Wallpaper" in WinterBoard but you can change it with a personal wallpaper by tuning "customWallpaper" in widgetSettings.js and "persoWallpaper.png" in "Widget" folder
You can change your location in widgetSettings.js as well as weather description language, temperature and hours kind (Fahrenheit/Celsius, 12H/24H), etc.

Unzip and place "Android Widget by eCAR.theme" folder in /private/var/stash/Themes.XXXXXX/ by SSH

This is an exclusive mockup for Gaia 09 - A project to raise awareness for climate change:

Climate change and the conservation of our planet is one of the most important issues facing us today. A group of designers and themers have tried to find a way of contributing their own part. How though could a website about desktop customization help to combat global warming?

A mentionable majoritiy of co2 emission is produced by industry. Private households also add significantly to the problem by using multiple fridges, televisions, cars and - last but not least - personal computers. So what can we do to support the movement? With this project, we want to raise awareness for the issue and remind users of nature and its beauty. To remind you of shutting down your computer at night if it's not in use. To turn your gadgets off instead of having them on standby.

With this voluminous release of skins for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux we want to bring attention to the topic in the community and hope to make you think more about the issue and your own ecological footprint.

We hope this project will reach a lot of people. If you want to help us by writing an article, blog entry or an interview feel free to contact us!

Creative Logo-2

I managed to get a little bit of free time today, and although I had a few things I could tackle I really wanted to re-address the Creative Logo I and $endosage had put together a few weeks back.

A lot of people had some comments about how the old factory idea wasn't working. I think we all knew it wasn't; we just wanted to see how people reacted to it.

Back to today, I recalled a comment somebody made about them thinking about the Creative team more as master craftsmen, and so I began exploring tools that craftsmen used. First I looked at a whittling tool, but I soon found that an illustration of it in a simplified form looked like a screwdriver. So that didn't work. Shortly thereafter I thought about a compass and a paintbrush merged together, and illustrated that idea. It was too complex, so I scrapped the thing and started over using just simple shapes. The end result is what you see here.

The Concept
The idea behind this is quite simple: precision art. It's what we do as designers and creative people. Every piece of art we make is built to serve a purpose, and all of us are very obsessed with pixel perfection. I feel pretty strongly that this logo suits us very well and I'm quite happy with it.

Behold, dC's Logo Design...
This design was done by =russoturisto exclusively for *designerscouch on request by ^depthskins.

dC is a group made up of designers both amateur and pro in which all of us have our own style and preference. A club dedicated to design whether it be web, print or identity. However much we're different as individuals, we all design in a modern style whether it be simple or graphic, it's modern.

=russoturisto did an excellent job at capturing this about dC in his typographic logos. It's obviously modern and trendy but yet has this old school feel to it. It's professional and simple but not corporate professional because we're not corporate. While being simple, it's graphic.

We're all different, we're all individuals but with this design, there's something to relate to we hope. Something in the logo that makes you go w0w.

We would love to hear your opinons on this logo design for dC because as you know, we like to have you play a role in the certain factors about dC.

Many thanks to =russoturisto for pulling this off. It took him approx a week to pull this off in which he worked with ^depthskins asking questions, etc, etc about dC. So go on over to his page, show some love and fave it over there as well to show appreciation.

Another small step towards what's to come for dC.

DVD Case+Art - PSD file

This has been usefull to me to show my clients a mockup of how the final case would look. I've been designing many DVD covers / Booklets and this was a really handy template I made, since it looks pretty real and stylish.

This is the DVD case I've been using as a preview for the DeviantGirls series. Many people asked me about it, and I thought it would be better to release it to the public. You only need Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3 to open it and tweak the layers. You can fully customize both artworks and stuff. If you want to change the box color, look on the "dvd case" group and tweak them with Hue/Saturation.

dC Official Logo

Dear friends, members, visitors,

On the journey to establish our own identity and our own presence in the design community we come to a final design for our logo identity. I'm sure many of you thought that the first logo concept was awesome and we'd stop there. While the first one was indeed awesome, it wasn't quite functional as a logo.

So °liquisoft, =russoturisto and the rest of the dC Core Team embarked on the journey together to decide dC's final logo design. In the presentation, you'll see 3 stages.

Ryan's Concept:
His concept was the backbone to our final design. Ryan managed to design the 'couch' in a simple, iconic and stylish manner with wings to represent designers'COUCH. We loved this. It was a great concept and well executed. However, we wanted more. We also thought the wings was somewhat cliche' even though it was stylishly executed.

Igor's Concept:
^depthskins came up with the idea of merging style. =russoturisto has a very unique style to his design and so does Ryan. So we thought we'd give it a shot. Igor played on Ryan's idea of the simple iconic couch. He built upon it and did what we call, 'a reinvention' of Ryan's brilliant concept. His style added to it just made it shit in our opinion and he losed the wing.

In addition to the 'couch' symbol, Igor wanted to give the typography a shot designing a font from scratch in a simple stylish manner. It's very different from his usual work and shows he can work outside his usual style. We loved the font and Igor is currently working on developing the entire typeface. Wicked huh? Yes, dC's very own custom font.

However, we made a mistake with this entire project, a mistake that was hard to work around but had to be done. Given we already had a winning site design, we had to use a font that works best with it so the site design constrained our choice a bit. So we went with Ryan's simple, elegant look for the typography.

Igor's presentation:

Symbol Breakdown:
One reason we loved this was Igor's rationale to his design. He simply thought to be a design king one must grow like a flower. Both a 'crown' and a 'flower' is represented in the logo to make up the 'couch' symbol. We all know that's Igor's style he's famous for and he pulled it off nicely.

So there you have it, 1 step forward into dC's future and guess what, it looks BRIGHT.

I re-rendered it so it didnt look "flat" and I moved some of the stuff on the decals so that the sponsor logos werent too big. I also added an emblem on the front and put horns on it because I based the design on a devil anyways. So I hope you like this better.

Update 3/6/06:
Wow, thanx everyone for the love Im shocked that I got a DD!!! I uploaded a new image of the car with an interior so I hope that it is more to some ppls liking. This was rendered before all the comments so I didnt address all the crits just the interior like I knew that I was going to have to create. Its not entirely done yet, but enough to fool the eye lol. But When I make interiors I make them max detail, so its gonna take time and my reference images suck, so stay tuned and be patient. Later and thanx again everyone!
