God I love dagged sleeves. Almost as much as I love slashed ones. I just want to dag and slash everything I can get my hands on.

I've wanted Maleficent to be the first villain in the series for a while now, ever since I made the mental leap between Maleficent's horns and 15th century horned hennins. The time period works out pretty well, actually, since I wanted her to look a little more dated than Aurora's 1480's getup- both houppelandes and horned hennins were all the rage during the early- to mid-1400's, and they make for pretty good analogues to her official costuming. Sexy stuff.

This proves more than any of the previous pieces that these are adaptations, not improvements. I mean, look at the original Maleficent design- how does one improve on PERFECTION

Fan art from one of my favorite games - Journey, by Thatgamecompany. I'm happy to know they're working on a new title.

This is a depiction of the fall into the ravine or cavern after the sand surf stage. The music and beauty of the game is just too good not to make a painting of it. I've played through it several times.
If you don't have a Ps3, I would recommend watching a Let's Play of the game. It is under two hours long, so get some coffee and sit down!

Homeward was my senior project for my final semester in college. All 12 paintings were created for and shown in the 2013 BFA exhibit for the University of Connecticut. They were designed to be displayed in a 4x3 grid and I worked on them on a thumbnail level for many weeks in order to make sure they communicated seamlessly between themselves. I intend on revisiting these sometime in the summer to make them better, as I only had a few weeks to crank them out and I was still a full-time student. Here's my official Artist's Statement:

Homeward is a sequence of work focusing on transitions that mirror personal growth and change. Each landscape is a metaphorical vessel for a fluctuation of psychological health beginning with the onset of mental illness and ending with its easement. The fantasy landscape setting allows for multiple shifting environmental factors: the weather, season, and time of day transition with each passing frame. The character undergoes her own differing actions, emotions, and relative scale between each piece. The frames communicate between each other through the sequence of the grid, mirroring the flow of a winding road.

during the second arenian expansion, lady ophelia , ruler of the corredan dukedom was on her own after the death of her husband. many worried how the generally silent duchess who rarely spoke in any of the political meetings would hold the reigns on the one of the greatest lordships in the continent.

some thought that the silent duchess might be manipulated, used for their own plans. first year of her reign she fulfilled the expectations nobles had of her. she kept things going as well as she could in times of war.

rumors spread. corredan dukedom was bordering the arenian expanse, and with many messengers of areni dropping by, lords presumed that lady ophelia would ally the corredan lands with areni.

little did they know that in silence lady ophelia listened. while many shouted, and argued , she pondered. she worried. she was a smart woman. proficient in histories and lore. and a great worry burdened her.

it was over a year since arenians started slaying dragons. harvesting their tears, all for the purpose of gaining the greater military edge.

most say in it only that. the sole danger was with arenians. ophelia had her own opinions. she knew of old alliances dragons made with people of ravine. of old promises sealed in blood and fire.

she saw the mistrust in dragons recently, aggression even. she saw and heard them roaring towards west. calling.

it would be an understatement to say that the lords and kings of the lands that opposed arenians were shocked to receive a summon from lady corredan. yet most of them answered it. and so, on an autumn night, ophelia corredan shared with them her fear.

arenians broke the pact with the dragons, old code that said man would not slay a dragon nor a dragon man. , now dragons called. they called for justice, they called for blood...and she thought there is one that might answer

baran, the eldest living dragon, giver of magic and son of mergarand the dragonfather, and barahea the dragonmother. of the eldest , he alone lives.... somewhere in the west.

ophelia proposed that they must stand alongside dragons. show their allegiances, and stop the bloodshed.

some agreed, possibly more for personal interests. united alliance is far more efficient at scaring off the opponent.
some said they would consider it.

and so corredans organized raids in which dragons were released, saved again and again.

still..arenians were relentless... and dragons, kept calling.

it was late winter that baran answered their call, and obliterated arenian borders. he then called his kin, and from them hr found out that not all have broken the code. many defended it with their very lives. baran learned of the woman. lady corredan. and with her he made the final pact. that of corredan flame. not a pact of mastery, but protection. just as corredans protected his kind, so will his kind treat corredans and all blessed by them as family.

and dragons take good care of their family.

ophelia's wisdom saved many lives that year, and later on she was inducted as an honorary matriarch of the sisterhood of anya. what was once the dukedom of corredans had become a great city. it's name was dregya, and it was protected

Yup, this was an April Fool's joke, just to answer all the inquiries.

A lot of people have been asking about Maid Marian, so I figured I might as well give her a shot- a bit tougher when you’re looking at clothing on anthropomorphic animals, of course, but there are still a couple of details that point to the 15^th century- the cut of the dress, the ears disguised as a horned hennin headdress, the bag sleeves, etc. I still tried to maintain the relatively simple silhouette of Marian’s dress, just with added period details- making it more of a houppelande by design, and resolving the v-shaped neckline to show the kirtle underneath.

Also really wanted to hide some foxglove motifs in the lining of the gown- it’s subtle, but I think it really ties the whole design together.

I saw tons of interpretation of them, but none of them exactly tied in with my vision [except maybe the Kidby's version, the Pratchett's official illustrator, but oh... he's the best, I have to defeat him druahauha] so I decided to move my ass and do something for give them a "my" face.
The Luggage has been obviously easier to draw than the WIZZARD... oooh Rincewind. If I meet you I'll hug you tenderly.

I think I love him. People usually fall in love with Edward Cullen, Draco Malfoy, Heatcliff and so on... then I suspire on Rincewind. LOL I filled a dozen pages of my sketchbook with his puppy face. After two weeks I finally finished to make this pseudo-professional Lonmade illustration in traditional techniques in his honor. He deserved this, even if it won't be the last : D

Then, traditional techniques, olds mine, I missed you all.

I'm in a period in which the old school techniques have a sex appeal to me, perhaps because I had no much time in the latest two years to devote myself to them on non-projects-drawing D: when I had time to draw something by my way, I hadn't other choice over doing it in digital media, because it's a faster technique than the traditional ones.

Steiner and Beatrix in "Dark City" Treno.
Treno is one of my favorite places in Final Fantasy IX (Actually I really like all of art design in FFIX ) and I tried to depict as much detail as possible. (Queen Stella's house, background buildings, Card Stadium, the building in which the synthesis shop is and Dr. Tot's tower) So it took the longest time ever I have spent on my paintings.

I guess Steiner looks like in this work if he takes off his heavy equipment, although his face without helmet is unknown.
Beatrix is wearing a dress, which I really had hard time to choose if it should be red or white.

I'm planning to draw a short story (Japanese manga style) sometime soon. I'm trying to write a plot for it. I hope I can make an English version, too!

This is my wedding ring that I made the zelda themed design to.
I modified it several times before finally getting it made but I had it done by roger & hollands, It turned out moooostly like my picture though the marquis stones should have been more pointed and the wings should have been 3 parts starting smaller and getting bigger going out
all the stones are sapphire and the band is 14k white gold w yellow gold wings
it cost a total of $2005

Please note that Kaleadora did the art, and that we collaborated on this back in 2009, so things covered in A Dance with Dragons (or on the HBO show for that matter) are obviously not included. And, as I thought would be clear due to the tongue-in-cheek nature of the work, but apparently needs to be clearer - not all of these are real/canonical, so please don't bother to complain that so-and-so isn't really dead, or didn't die in the way mentioned in the poem - I probably just picked them because their name started with the right letter and I could think of a rhyme. Thanks again for the nice comments!

Scarypet's 'ROCK'ing tutorial+

For the longest time, many people have been requesting for tutorial on how to paint/speed-paint rocks...

Well, this tutorial shows some of the ways I do it.
_{There are other methods I use but this tutorial shows the best examples to understanding the concept and not just the technique (well, i hope it does).}

what software is that?

I did this in Photoshop cs2, but anyone can follow these steps using any painting/drawing software. I also just used a default brush here.

Why no textures? Rocks are often rough, right?

What is most important is to depict the form of the rock. To make it look realistic or believable, the rock should have body, and fit into it's environment. The textures are just secondary.

Two concept drawings for my project of the moment. Yes, it involves mustelids of all sorts in a fantasy setting.

I must admit I haven't done my visual research yet so my weasel anatomy and stylization will need some work. I did this one mostly to get the ideas out of my head and to try my new brush pens. The designs and the style will change, but I had fun drawing it and I'm pleased with how it looks

Finally updated Pocahontas! I don't think this is what people were expecting as the next entry in the series, but some of the criticisms of my first design have been eating away at me for years now and I needed to get off my ass and address them.

So hey! Spunky age-appropriate Pocahontas/Matoaka, sans feathers in the hair/European imagery/other superfluous details. This is closer to accounts and illustrations of Powhatan dress from the period, and I kinda think it's closer to the Disney design anyway. WIN/WIN.

Thanks to everyone who's educated my ass over the past couple of years, including moniquill, apihtawikosisan, this-is-not-native, and numerous others. You've made me a way more thoughtful artist in the process.

Battle Angel Alita Preview

The wig is two wigs combined. I should be able to post a tutorial for how I merge wigs soon. Alita's hair is rather ridiculous and I wanted mine to be that way. I think it still needs a little more molding though.

All of the armor is craft foam coated with contact cement and covered with spandex. I found a few tutorials on craft foam armor and ended up making a hybrid solution that worked for me. I paid a very large attention to detail. At this point, I know her arms like the back of my hands. Both top and bottom pieces attach by snaps. Elbow and knee pieces attach via velcro.

Catsuit is made by me with wet look spandex. Undershirt is made of the same spandex that coats the armor.

Not really sure what else to say. Very VERY labor intense. It pays off if you take the time to do it well though.

Person thoughts:
Battle Angel Alita was the first manga I ever read. I was into anime at a really young age, but didn't get into manga until the 90s. I was really into Star Wars expanded universe novels and manga was right next to it. It was only natural that I eventually wandered over.

Back when I read it, it was really expensive compared to today's manga. It was $18-$20 a book, American format and they weren't numbered. They fell apart fairly easily. I definitely read them out of order since there wasn't really a way to check the order I was supposed to read them in.

I fell in love with Alita from the first book. To this day, she is my favorite character in anything ever. I have been saying for about ten years that I was going to make this costume. Tried many times. Finally, this year, I said fuck it, its going to happen. A friend joked that I would spend years planning and make it in a week. They were close. I made it in two.

There are a couple of things I was to fix, but for the most part, I am really happy with this costume.

Here is Klaus the Archaeopteryx! He's not the brightest bulb but he's really sweet and cuddly. Klaus just wants to perch on your foot while you work at your desk or nap on your shoulder. His favorite things to eat are wooly caterpillars with a side of chutney. Despite Klaus being a little dim he's very very fierce when it comes to defending his favorite person! He can give a pretty nasty bite when he feels like you are in some trouble.

Klaus' necklace has a fossil shark tooth with fossil garfish scales plus buffalo teeth, wood , brass and horn beads.

Klaus is 8.25" ( 21cm) tall when standing on his feet.

This is a handmade, one of a kind piece of art. The face, claws and feet are an original sculpt cast in resin that is then hand painted. Each cast piece is sealed with clear coat. The body is a soft, non articulated floppy style stuffed with soft polyfill and plastic pellets in the bottom. Faux fur body with stiff felt wings/tail with hand painted accents. This doll stands up well on his own two feet.

Every one of my dolls comes with a signed resin monster face medallion tag marking it as one of my one of a kind critters. These dolls are meant to be petted and cuddled a bit but please treat them with care. Wipe the face or paws with a slightly damp cloth to clean any scuffs or dust. They are not rated for young children!

Get all of my human anatomy tutorials in one convenient book or e-book!
With my martial arts practice, which involves separate training to develop our body's potential, I've long felt like doing a guide about movement, but the subject is so vast I didn't know where to start. It's during a grueling stretching session that it occurred to me that flexibility would be easy enough to corner, for starters. So there you have it, and I don't think I've ever seen an artist's reference for this stuff.

No bibliography included, this is all straight from my head (except for the numbers), after 7 years of practice and 2-3 of training for an instructor degree.

Read the introduction and disclaimers before giving feedback. Those who don't read, or ignore what they read, will be flogged equally.

Actually, to be on the safe side, here are my disclaimers:

Athletes will immediately notice I am simplifying the material. I readily admit I am adapting the material to artistic purposes and this should NOT be used as a reference for physical activity. I am not responsible for any injury that may derive from using this for purposes other than an illustration reference.

Double-jointed people, contortionists and anyone who's undergone intensive flexibility training from a young age are considered exceptions and this guide wont attempt to take them into account.

My Supergirl

's characters Maria and Lily, superheroines-in-training. Maria races cars and also enjoys her extraterrestrial powers over fire. Lily is a cheerleader with a mermaidy background. THEY FIGHT CRIME. Also they kiss.

(My god it's all the things I love best, how did she know?)

The sketching and tracing for this was actually done during the power outage after the hurricane. I was pretty pleased when the lights came back on and I could see the piece properly, let me tell ya.
