hello all! as you might have heard, there've been some technical problems with my account here on dA lately. one of them is that my submissions are not appearing in many of my watchers' inboxes. i've contacted dA about it but it's been a week now and i haven't heard anything back. so i decided to just upload something as a test to see how many people receive it and contact dA about it once more. it's pretty important to me and i've decided to put off uploading any finished pieces until the problem is solved, so if you could please comment and let me know if this appeared in your message center, that would be great and very helpful! thanks so much.

since this is a test, i might end up re-submitting it a few times to see if the problem has been fixed. my apologies in advance for those of you who DO receive my uploads and may find this submission in their message center more than once! i hope you understand my reasons.

Based on this great tidbit of Brazilian folklore where Amazonian river creatures (primarily pink dolphins, but sometimes snakes, and now arapaimas because I wanted to draw them) turn into sexy men who lure sexy ladies into their sexy underwater partyland through the power of their songs and hip gyrations. It's like werewolves but instead of biting it's parties.

developing a new approach to painting, for these its all about different harmonies(color, light shadows, shapes, composition) no refs or any photographs were used for these. Its all about staying loose and suggestive. The result will give that realism can be achieved without any kind of detail work. And that detail will only be a question of further definition on what can be seen on these panels.

This is probably the farthest away from the source material any of my recent redesigns have come.
And that's probably due to the fact that I like the original a lot too.
HOWEVER, having friends in the cosplay community has opened my eyes to exactly HOW MUCH foundation has to be layered under Zatanna's iconic show suit to make that thing work.

So I thought I'd try a take at something a bit more casual.

We have Learning Lunches at *atomhawk every so often. It's essentially a show and tell where one of our Artists will paint a demonstration of a chosen subject, while the rest of us sit around stuffing our faces watching the big screen. I've never considered myself gifted when it comes to any kind of public speaking, even with the people I work with ... but practice makes perfect.

They're good fun and it was my turn this week! So I painted a little skin demo. The face on the left is around 40 minutes, and the face on the right is about 1.5 hours. I thought this might be fun to share.

Variant cover for She Hulk #60. I was asked to do a Frazetta style She Hulk and this is what happened. It's not very Frazetta-y really. He's a big influence of mine (and everyones I'd imagine) but I see too many bad Frazetta wannabes and don't want to be one of them. Even when I'm asked to go that way. This is more a theme that Frank might go with. I submitted 4 thumbnails and the editor chose my least favorite. They always do. Go figure. I think it came out ok in the end.

Quite near the start of development on Heart of the Swarm, *PhillGonzo requested a new concept of the Torrasque hero ultralisk from original SC, since while there was technically a massive Torrasque-named ultralisk in Liberty it had only been a scaled up version of the regular unit, and we thought it might be worth giving a bit of extra love.
Unfortunately this one never got very far into production, but I enjoyed at least creating this piece - trying to play up the original ultralisk look from in-game, the old manual illustrations, and that brief appearance in the SC:Ghost cinematic trailer.

*updated, colour was super desaturated for some reason

Night Version

This image was inspired by a free Breadley Manning protest I participated in. We were a small group of about 20-30 peaceful protesters met by an overkill of riot police. We dissipated peacefully to avoid arrest but the image of facing against a roll of riot police remained in my mind.

For those not familiar with Bradley Manning, he was the one who leaked the Collateral Murder video to Wikileaks. The video details the slaughter of innocent Iraqi civilians and journalists by American soldiers. Amongst the injured were 2 children whose father was killed. When the journalists' families asked about how they were killed, they were lied to. For revealing the true casualties of war, Manning was put into solitary confinement and tortured without trial. I've never been a big fan of Stephanie Brown. I didn't like her as Spoiler and I skipped her stint as Batgirl. I did, however, liked her as Robin. Tim will always be my favourite Robin for the sheer fact he was the one I grew up with, but one major criticism to his tenure is that he really didn't lighten the mood when it came to the dynamic duo. Which is a huge part of being Robin! Robin is suppose to be the counterbalance to Batman's grim outlook to keep Bruce from spiralling out into a dark psychosis.

Steph was funny and and added a nice dynamic to Batman & Robin. Where I found her lack of skill annoying in her other roles, it was fun to see it when she was paired with Bruce. Watching him training her made Batman more fun to me.

This is another of my favorite pages from issue 1, and one of my favorite in terms of the colors as well. is an amazing colorist, and he did a fantastic job on this book.
