I have been agonizing over this manipulation for days; I don't think I've ever put so much time into a photomanipulation before. Maybe I should.

Here's the message behind it . . .

We all get caught up in the murky, dark waters of conformity at some point in our lives, and these waters mute our brilliant colors until they are dull and gray. But, if we follow our inner compass, we can find the way out. Often, the only way out is through the mire. And it's not easy to get out; the door on the other side may be too small, but we can find a way to follow where our heart is guiding us and find our colors once again.

No premade stock used. The room was created from [link] by ~Banana-Workshop using perspective distortions in Photoshop. I improvised from vague memories of a tutorial written by the artist formerly known as ~Lady-Dementia several years ago. I don't think it's up anymore.

The water was mostly painted. For the top and bottom, I used a bit of texture from ~strwberrystk's [link] . Tips from *kuschelirmel-stock's "flood" tutorial here: [link] helped get it just right!

I got bored and decided to do a photomanipulation. I just did things as they came to mind, and ended up with a flooded library whose supports were beginning to fail. Strikingly, I didn't realize how much of a metaphor this was for me until now. Interesting.

Aahh... So I'm not entirely happy with this one, but I haven't done a manip in a long time, so this was really just an excuse to get re-acquainted with Gimp. There's no particular meaning behind this either, I started by putting the water in and thought that the picture might look nice with a peacock in the window. I might go back and fool around with it later, see if I can get it to a place where I'm really happy with it.

Had the image for a long time, can't remember the exact source, just saved it.

Decided to edit it using this flood tutorial. Outcome was more or less what I was hoping for, just thought I'd give it a go and see how it came out. FYI - I just added water, changed the lighting a little and left it at that.

Well, I used =kuschelirmel-stock's tutorial, Flood It! ([link]), for this and while I don't think that mine's the best, I still learned a lot of awesome stuffes! It was a TON of fun.

Aaaand, the I originally added a model and a bunch of glowing light, but I didn't really like it and it looked super crappy. ;-;

But other than that, I think this deviation was fabulously fun to do, and not all that bad looking.

There was no happily ever after for them.

She married her prince, and they were happy - for a while. But, the thing about princes, they tend to become kings. And kings have no time for romantic foolishness, they have a country to govern, their head is full of politics and their timetable with appointments. He would travel for weeks and months, battling enemies or visiting possible allies. And every time he came home, she could see his disappointment that there was still no sign of the much anticipated heir.

So many times she asked to go with him. But he would not allow that; it would be too dangerous, he said, the queen has to stay in the castle where she is safe. Safe from cold iron maybe, but not from poisoned tongues... She grew so tired of it all - flattery and hidden envy, ceremonies and etiquette, boredom and loneliness. Until one day, another cold, gloomy day, she felt she just can't do it any longer.

She threw off the heavy velvet gown, the uncomfortable shoes, the strangling corset. She didn't even keep her wedding ring - long since it has turned from symbol of love to the seal on the golden cage. She managed to slip away before her prisoners, sorry, her ladies-in-waiting would have noticed. She fled down to the sea, finally free, finally alive again. Now, she is pleading with the water gods to get back her fish tail again...

This was my first concept for *cryptic-sacrifice's Twisted Tale contest. I still like the idea and the stock I've found is fabulous... but the picture didn't turn out very well. Can't put my finger on why, but I'm not at all happy with it... bad composition I guess?
I wanted the building to play a bigger part than in my usual stuff, to be dark and menacing, representing all she escaped from. Maybe it's her position... or don't know, really don't know but it just doesn't work.

Critique, help, suggestions, any form of feedback is ... I really want to fix this one.
