So, I did a little wing thing (Or, I did this a long time ago but never bothered to upload it). I'm no wing-major, but I thought it was funny to do and that perhaps someone would appreciate it considering how effing difficult it is to draw wings...

So, here's to all of you who care! : D

Mattias, the main model of this little tutorial-thing, is mine. His wings aren't that rainbow-ish (They look like the orange-brownish plumage one of the miniature wingpairs). It's for the sake of clarity!

I make references at times to human anatomy, so if you're not familiar with it drop by my earlier tutorial Big Guide to Drawing the Body [link] (it can't hurt to look at Basic Animal Anatomy [link] as well).

I'll repeat here some advice I gave with the previous tutorials:
Use the above guide as a supplement to gesture drawing. Reading and memorizing all this won't help you as much as sketching from life; this guide simply provides the understanding that will make your sketching a learning experience rather than a random process. So, carry a sketchbook around and gesture-draw birds in the park, or from TV.

Also, though in these 2 parts I tried to give all the basic info one needed, personal research is invaluable. If you want to really draw a specific bird, you need to look for pictures of it, movies as well if possible, soak them up, sketch from them, until the way the bird stands and moves become instinctive to you.

NO part of this tutorial may be reproduced, so don't even ask!! if you find it helpful and want to share it, simply link to it.

Ta-da! Finally! You peeps requested this, like, AGES ago, and here it is! Hope you learn something! Please don't be scared off by its length, I just talk a lot.

I browsed a bit through dA and I couldn't find a tutorial on bird wings that really covered it ALL--from bones to wing shapes and feather groups. All the tuts I found seemed to assume that you were starting with some basic knowledge of how bird wings worked. I don't know if you are, so here's one that works from the ground up!

Yes, this is based off the tutorial style of the incomparable (Go read her tutorials on drawing humans; I promise you will learn something!) because I feel that it's a very clear and dynamic way to show people stuff. So yeah.

-Reader's Digest Book of North American Birds -- beautifully illustrated, with cool tidbits of information about all the birds.

...and I don't want to hear that you don't have the money to buy books. Libraries need love too, and there is one near you--go get to know it!

during the second arenian expansion, lady ophelia , ruler of the corredan dukedom was on her own after the death of her husband. many worried how the generally silent duchess who rarely spoke in any of the political meetings would hold the reigns on the one of the greatest lordships in the continent.

some thought that the silent duchess might be manipulated, used for their own plans. first year of her reign she fulfilled the expectations nobles had of her. she kept things going as well as she could in times of war.

rumors spread. corredan dukedom was bordering the arenian expanse, and with many messengers of areni dropping by, lords presumed that lady ophelia would ally the corredan lands with areni.

little did they know that in silence lady ophelia listened. while many shouted, and argued , she pondered. she worried. she was a smart woman. proficient in histories and lore. and a great worry burdened her.

it was over a year since arenians started slaying dragons. harvesting their tears, all for the purpose of gaining the greater military edge.

most say in it only that. the sole danger was with arenians. ophelia had her own opinions. she knew of old alliances dragons made with people of ravine. of old promises sealed in blood and fire.

she saw the mistrust in dragons recently, aggression even. she saw and heard them roaring towards west. calling.

it would be an understatement to say that the lords and kings of the lands that opposed arenians were shocked to receive a summon from lady corredan. yet most of them answered it. and so, on an autumn night, ophelia corredan shared with them her fear.

arenians broke the pact with the dragons, old code that said man would not slay a dragon nor a dragon man. , now dragons called. they called for justice, they called for blood...and she thought there is one that might answer

baran, the eldest living dragon, giver of magic and son of mergarand the dragonfather, and barahea the dragonmother. of the eldest , he alone lives.... somewhere in the west.

ophelia proposed that they must stand alongside dragons. show their allegiances, and stop the bloodshed.

some agreed, possibly more for personal interests. united alliance is far more efficient at scaring off the opponent.
some said they would consider it.

and so corredans organized raids in which dragons were released, saved again and again.

still..arenians were relentless... and dragons, kept calling.

it was late winter that baran answered their call, and obliterated arenian borders. he then called his kin, and from them hr found out that not all have broken the code. many defended it with their very lives. baran learned of the woman. lady corredan. and with her he made the final pact. that of corredan flame. not a pact of mastery, but protection. just as corredans protected his kind, so will his kind treat corredans and all blessed by them as family.

and dragons take good care of their family.

ophelia's wisdom saved many lives that year, and later on she was inducted as an honorary matriarch of the sisterhood of anya. what was once the dukedom of corredans had become a great city. it's name was dregya, and it was protected

i tried reading some of the new dc comics, , cause of the whole reboot, i though, hey, i'll jump in on some of that. i do love the characters in the cartoons...

and..just... damn...

see its a personal nuisance for me. i worked for years on witchblade, working hard to get the whole tna reputation out of the way. ron and i did relatively well with that

we were constantly taking shit from the people who read superhero comics, and got a crapload of condescension

and now... well.. seems like the shoe is on the other foot

because... just ... wow. there are many many amazingly well done comics, just brilliant in both artwork and writing.. but some are just... uncomfortable

i am a great believer that sexuality in comics serves a purpose, and works best when earned through character development.

it is supposed to be subservient to the story, it needs to be given a better purpose than just... hey, look sex!

so far the female characters in dc have been a bit... um...lets just say mishandled.

this is merely one man's opinion. no better nor more important than anyone else's. if you disagree that is your right.

and i hate the damn harley, arkhampromiscuousoversexualizedjailbait design

always have always will. it lacks the tongue in cheek humor, it lacks the likeability, but it replaces it with a lollipop sucking jailbait look....sorry...just..no

and for anyone who thinks themselves clever to go and point out that i'm drawing and writing sunstone, and yet i have a problem with this, i will save you the embarrassment.

sunstone is a comic ABOUT sexuality.
therefore there is sex in it

these are comics about superhero's that are saving the world on a daily basis... that is their premise...see what i'm getting at here?

it is often so crazy that some of the offensive words never quite... graduate

slutty for instance , in my country never really got to the rank where it would be used to define a woman's sexual behavior in a derogatory way.

we have about 60 far worse words for that

here word pretty much is used for a dressing style, that is ..oh lets say less than practical.

,now that you know this, i think the original intention of my message becomes clearer ...tho many never had any problems of guessing it

message was that female characters deserve more dignity in their treatment in comics...to be more than a eyecandy afterthought existing for nothing else than to hump random people without any insight to why.

i'm just saying if we have to know why a guy has a different colored suit, it would be useful to know why a female character is about to have sex with a random guy.

ultimately i found the right words i wanted to use to explain this situation

it is political correctness.

you presumed that every country has it as highly developed as the top few.

unfortunately we do not, that train is coming to my country too, but its slow moving and we put obstructions on the tracks

till then , there will probably be some confusions, so try to realize that maybe the person talking to you is not being judgmental, they just express differently because such is the norm of their country

OMGOMGOMG IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE WE'VE SEEN EACH OTHER!! I've been in college, got my straight feeaking A's, and now I'm just ready to shoot school in the damn crotch for taking me away from my art!! = A = Being in honors classes is a pain...

ANYWHO... I'm finally posting new artwork!! TT U TT So happy to share with you guys again! This piece feature my beloved O.C.'s Cecero (red-head) and Sheko (boy with sharp teacht <3) from my publication SACRED! (read chapters HERE! ). I'm so thrilled with this piece and finally being able to color my darliing boys without the stress of homework...it's a pleasure beyond words! I wanted to focus on Sacred's mood; cheerful yet with an undeniable underlying dark feel. And for those of you familiar with my series, you'll recognize the "rose and corpse hand" motif used here matches those from vol. 1 and 2's covers

And a little update: Volume 3 is finally getting some much needed attention and is FINALLY going to be ready for my spring conventions ; U ; <3 I have a flipping load of 15 conventions to attend this year!! WTF?!! XD LOL I'll be traveling from Boston all the way to Atlanta Georgia!! I'm on a bit of an author tour for volume 3's release and will be handing out a ton of gifts and such along the way! Author signings are planned amoung other things which I'll keep you all updated on! SOOO EXCITED!!

Something I drew a year ago! (feb 2012) I was going to save this like a lot of my other original pieces to the best of my ability for another art book, also because I decided to keep misleading pictures out of people's sight lol q_q but I haven't had much to post lately and I guess this kind of suits the occasion???

It was a random sketch that I ended up using to try painting in a simple way and without lines. I rather like how it turned out but I'm not sure if I will be able to pull it off again when I need to haha!

This is the second more huge boss of our actual iPhone platformer.
I made him a few months ago, but didn't want to show him.
Maybe some people think about the plant boss in Yoshi's Island, when they look at him. I just can say that the gameplay is different in every way, but I don't want to spoiler.
