Drawing Birds part 1

I make references at times to human anatomy, so if you're not familiar with it drop by my earlier tutorial Big Guide to Drawing the Body [link] (it can't hurt to look at Basic Animal Anatomy [link] as well).

I'll repeat here some advice I gave with the previous tutorials:
Use the above guide as a supplement to gesture drawing. Reading and memorizing all this won't help you as much as sketching from life; this guide simply provides the understanding that will make your sketching a learning experience rather than a random process. So, carry a sketchbook around and gesture-draw birds in the park, or from TV.

Also, though in these 2 parts I tried to give all the basic info one needed, personal research is invaluable. If you want to really draw a specific bird, you need to look for pictures of it, movies as well if possible, soak them up, sketch from them, until the way the bird stands and moves become instinctive to you.

NO part of this tutorial may be reproduced, so don't even ask!! if you find it helpful and want to share it, simply link to it.

Looks like something sweet, or fruity Either way I wanted this to to be one inviting sunset scene and I quite loved the colour combination for this year's one. This is the seventh annual artwork I've made of this kind, all part of my yearly birthday submissions and I managed to still be on time again. Talk about punctuality (or not having a life ) It was hard to think of a title, so I took one from a song I currently like which fits the mood perfectly

Created with Vue and Photoshop as I often do. I originally had a very purple colour scheme in mind for this with only trace amounts of blue and pink involved. It looked pretty cool but then after some radical changes and experimentation with the colours I ended up with this which was very different yet more fitting to the bright, warm sunset mood I wanted. I also wanted somewhat a minimalistic approach which I tend to prefer for island type scenery relax:

This far (I've read vols 1&2, and can't wait for the third!) Jon is my fav character. While I was drawing him I realized he reminds me of Mark Harmon (tv show NCIS).

The picture might be slightly narrow and the colors too dark, because I'm at home right now and we have this kind of a screen here: [link] so no amount of tuning the brightness/contrast will ever make the images look right here. Tomorrow I will get back to my own lovely computer Hiili!

So a current piece , i've finally allowed myself a piece with white armor-details.
I think it very hard to do in pencils because of commonly graf cannot do white lines. So , how more lines you do , more black it comes.

Wind and Fire of a different flavor from my usual subjects. This one goes to ~kathlaidaprincess, who likes both.

Does Aang look more like he's waterbending than airbending? Drawing air is kind of difficult, especially stylized air. But, he's the avatar, so... maybe he's vaporbending. Highly useful.

I took Zuko's pose from the dragon dance, because I love that scene and especially how he looks in it. Aang's pose is also referenced from the series, but from a different angle; it's from when he's being all avatary and making Ozai waterbend his pants.
Also, from now on I reserve the right to be completely annoying and will, in the vein of everything being something no jutsu, call everything somethingbending.

This picture was watercolourbended and inkbended and paintshopprobended much the same way as this picture was.

Well, i've seen a few wallpaper versions floating around and I made this very simplistic one for myself. Thought I'd share it. to keep with the feel of the original piece I decided to contrast the rough brush strokes against black as well as to make certain the focus stayed on our little space-time owls.

Feel free to use, one size only I'm afraid (sorry! but it should be able to fit most resolutions if you set it to)
