It's my typical style -- starting with a ballpoint pen on paper and digitally painting it with mostly "diffuse watercolor" brush tool in Corel Painter on Intuos 3.
I like how colorful and happy this one turned out. ^_^

Dance of a Thousand Birome

"Dance of a Thousand Birome" -- ballpoint pen on paper (8.5" x 11"), scanned, colored digitally in Corel Painter, using Intuos3 tablet.

(DA doesn't have a mixed media category for trad+digi..., but since I've spent way more time working on the lines in ballpoint pen on paper, I'm sticking this into "traditional work" for categorization purpose.)

Title is courtesy of , who so brilliantly captured my intent of the piece with her words. ^^ Thank you again!!!

Oranges and browns are not my colors, but Goddess of Doodles demanded and ended up engulfed in flames. Let's just say that it represents the all-consuming passion for doodles done in pen!

I'll have to decide here in a bit which one to enter the contest between "Grace of Tungsten Carbide" and "Dance of a Thousand Birome". It is a contest sponsored by the group #CultOfTheBiro, so I'm partial to the 100% ballpoint pen version ("Grace..."), but that's just the purist in me talking. I had so much fun with this piece from the beginning to the end. I hope you find it amusing, too.

This is the product of an ImagineFX monthly challenge. I have grown quite a bit by doing this piece. Honestly, I have no idea how long this took me. I spent a couple of hours just researching things like guns and spent a while mocking up thinks like the ship in the background in separate files. It took me back to my college art 110 class which taught construction/perspective drawing. It really came in handy!

Drawing ships and mech armor is not my forte, so I focused on what I could do first- portraits. I added a human element to an otherwise very cold theme. Overall I am pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Expect more of this style of art in the future.

My family has a complicated history of separation, immigration, divorce, and remarriage. I won't go into the details but my mom often said to me "It's my life, my choice, I do what I want. You have no right to judge me."

I'm 18, but as a 9 year old child at the time, I couldn't repeat what she said. I could only wonder "Your choice in life affects me too."

Divorce is such a fad these days. Half the people I know have divorced parents, and most of them aren't happy about it. I understand in some situations divorce is the only way, but when your choice affects more than just you, think of the consequences and choose wisely.

With that said, I also wrote a short visual novel about the subject and an interactive narrative .

It's nearly to impossible to describe the music I was listening to while creating this piece. The correct term would be ineffable (beyond description or without words). The album by Tribes of Neurot, is nothing but insect sounds with mics super imposed to magnify the sounds a thousand times over to create sounds, that you may hear in every day life. When the cds are played simultaneously you could think your in a city, or deep within an ancient forest. It's impossible to describe. I have included an audio track, but it would best be suited to purchase the cds and try this for yourself.

As you may have noticed there is no beat. What you hear is completely derived from the sounds of insects....
