This image has been in the works for a bit now, mainly because of an ask on Tumblr, but actually on my mind prior.
A LOT of XM stuff has been getting updates and fixes, and I've managed to pick the comic back up again.

Chowli would definitely be completely blind. He was born without eyeballs in his sockets, which made him quite a creepy kid. So creepy in fact that he was given up by his parents and raised in a temple.
He kept to himself a lot, but as he got older he interacted with people more often, and that was the catalyst of his visions.
Usually minor things that were not noticeable, to do with his or their daily life. But the more someone was tied into something important, the stronger the vision became.
He quickly gained a reputation for his visions, and got named a Prophet.

He has enough control on his visions now to be able to tell if he is going to run into something, or if something is going to hit him. It more or less allows him to place himself at the right place at the right time.

In this image I decided to show what started as a joke about how when he has a vision he “explodes with light” to where he’d make a good movie projector. (Last image of him with a light show [link])
But to be honest I kind of like the idea that if he was facing something reasonable in a dark area, others would be able to see what the vision is through the projection. HOW TO USE THEM

-Open the PDF in Illustrator.

-Open the swatches pallet. There you should see all of the patterns. If they are not showing make sure that you have all swatches showing. (Theres a button at the bottom of the swatches pallet that looks like 3 overlapping squares. In CS4, when you click it you get a drop down menu.) Select "show all swatches".

-The easiest way to import them into the file you are working on is to select the boxes (not the swatches) you need and copy/paste them into the document you are working on. When you do this, the corresponding patterns will appear in the swatch pallet. (Again make sure pattern swatches are showing by clicking the 3 squares icon.)

-If you want to scale the pattern within a shape, select the shape(s) you want to adjust the pattern size in.

-Double click the Scale tool. You will get a dialogue box. Enter how much bigger or smaller you'd like the pattern to be in the "uniform" box. (values below 100 make it smaller, values above 100 make it bigger.) Check the preview box to see the effects in the shape(s). Make sure the only box you have checked in the options is "patterns". If you have anything else checked you will also be resizing the shape, and that might not be what you want. Press enter to apply the changes. ]]> Illustrator CS+. For some reason this non-significant scene has been bugging my inspiration-chambers for months, refusing to leave me be. So even if I didn't really want to draw it, I had to. o_o

And the cat looks wrong somehow. I can't really pinpoint what is up with it, could it be the ears? Too long muzzle? Eh, whatever, it's good enough and I can get back to drawing things I actually want to draw. ]]>

I haven't played Persona 4 OR pokemon b/w, but I guess I'm an indirect fan of both by watching.
Started out as a joke when I started thinking of several comparisons of P4 characters to certain pokemon, but it obviously went way too far *cough* I just couldn't help myself, though.

There's just so much material to cover, and so much of it is like intuitive language translation, I can't figure how to put it into tutorial form any more than I could draw a picture of how to speak Russian. I guess that's why expression tutorials are mostly just charts of what happy, sad, and confused look like.

Anyway, I found all I could really do was try to explain ways to teach yourself...and then add some pictures. Hopefully that makes for something at least marginally informative.

I haven't had enough time to finish this tutorial in full so I'm submitting this first part of my coloring tutorial which I had in my scraps+some new parts. To tell the truth, it makes me a little nervous to do tutorials in parts, because I do a lot of reorganizing as I do tutorials to make things seem... logical. But whatevs.

Next sections cover color perception and painting techniques which can be applied traditionally and digitally.

I hope some of you find this helpful.

I'd like to make a note that while I go over typical color relationships like complementary colors, and I go over color wheels, all this should be taken only a short-hand for an easy way to pick a color palette and a way to introduce people to terms artist commonly used to define color. The most important parts are the ones about hue, purity, and value, color mixing, and gamut.

Remember that you're the artist, and you should pick the colors that appeal to you.
