mass effect legion plush, chibi style!

so. legion. LEGION, YOU GUYS. THIS LITTLE GETH WAS A HANDFUL.

i'll preface by saying i had some oral surgery this week, so trying to craft while under the influence of painkillers was PROBABLY not my brightest idea.

legion is one of my favorite ME2 characters, and i'm SO bummed he wasn't in more of the game. (although if you haven't already, you can watch some interesting footage of legion helping out on tali's loyalty mission. REALLY interesting stuff.)

legion, like garrus, was a character that i was very excited to craft - as well as VERY apprehensive. i just couldn't figure out, in my head or in my sketches, what they were supposed to look like.

after i tackled garrus i put legion on the back burner, afraid of the massive undertaking he would be. i've been sketching out ideas for awhile, but the positive feedback i've received on my plushies these last few weeks finally gave me the motivation to get things going.

one little thing i was proud of but doesn't really show well in the photo: i drew on the grey arm fabric to create the 'sinewy' look of legion's arms.

i knew i didn't want to put a hole clean through the plush (even though it would've been more accurate), so i made a heart-shaped hole in his armor. i experimented with bits of fabric, yarn, pipe cleaners, craft foam to create the exposed wires on his chest, but i wanted something a little more "cutesy", so i settled on the rhinestone lines.

anyway, hope you guys like him! ^.^

An Amazing Device
The astrolabe ( الأسطرلاب ) is a very ancient astronomical computer for solving problems relating to time and the position of the Sun and stars in the sky. Several types of astrolabes have been made. By far the most popular type is the planispheric astrolabe, on which the celestial sphere is projected onto the plane of the equator.

Origin and spread
The astrolabe is thought to have originated in Ancient Greece. Though no examples have survived, Hipparchus, writing in around 150 BCE, is credited with discovering stereographic projection', the mathematical means of representing the 3D sky onto a 2D plate that is the basis of how the astrolabe works. While the origin of the astrolabe may have been Greek, it is generally agreed that the design was then perfected in the Islamic world indeed the name Astrolabe comes from the Arabic version of the Greek term Star holder'.

The first person credited with building the astrolabe in the Islamic world is reportedly the 8th century mathematician Muhammad al-Fazari. The mathematical background was established by the Muslim astronomer Al-Battani in his treatise Kitab az-Zij, which was translated into Latin by Plato Tiburtinus. The earliest surviving dated astrolabe is dated A.H. 315 (927/8 C.E.).

Uses of the Astrolabe
In the 10th century, al-Sufi first described over 1,000 different uses of an astrolabe, in areas as diverse as astronomy, astrology, horoscopes, navigation, surveying, timekeeping, prayer, Salah, Qibla, etc
Astrolabes can be used to solve many astronomical problems that would otherwise require rather sophisticated mathematics. All of the everyday uses of the astrolabe are not known, but they were certainly used to tell time during the day or night, to find the time of sunrise and sunset and, thus, the length of the day, to locate celestial objects in the sky, as a handy reference of celestial positions and, as astrology was a deeply embedded element of the cultures that used astrolabes, to determine aspects of horoscopes.

Religious applications
Additional features unique to Islamic astrolabes are those tables designed to aid the carrying out of the 5 pillars of Islam. Of the 5 pillars, the two most dependant on astronomical observation and calculation are finding the Qibla or direction of Makkah and predicting prayer times, and for these many Islamic astrolabes carry special tables.

One final indication we find on many Islamic astrolabes, which gives them a religious dimension as opposed to simply being Arabic but non-religious, is the inscriptions. On many Islamic astrolabes we find passages from the Qur'an, dedications, religious verses and of course the date given according to the Hijra calendar.

Concept made out of alien marshmallows, sand and a glass you burn oil in (upside down, to illustrate a spaceship). Piece of wood + double sided tape for the flag. Used a blue paper as background, and cut out the moon from a yellow paper and attached it onto the blue paper.

The marshmallows are made by Frisia and they are delicious! In the same pack there's a variety of other marshmallows. Huge smiley faces for example.

Edit: Oh my gosh A DD? Unbelievable! Thank you so so much & for suggesting it, and for featuring !

The Crocheted: Jekyll and Hyde Bunny

My entry for #Amigurumi-Challenge's 1st contest.
The task was to customize the following free pattern: [link]

I decided to make Jekyll & Hyde.
The cape is optional, but helpful, if you want to hide his respective "other side".
I might be tempted to take "them" to work as an indicator for my colleagues when not to approach me. But hey, I have a feeling Hyde would be the face most often seen, then.
EDIT:
I have taken them to work, and now my colleagues are playing with them more than I do. Tsk.

The bunny stands 11cm (4.3") tall.

Somehow turquoise cabs or tumbled stones always look to me like the eggs of some fantastic raptor. It felt very boring to name this piece simply "egg" or something egg-related, however... and somehow in the process of deciding what to call it my mind latched on "Moment". Maybe a little obscure.

In any case, this is another small one. The locket, including the bail, measure a total of 32mm, and it hangs on a 21" chain.

Details of the outfit Seere has on in the last two photos.

Includes: A large hooded cape, long pants, underskirt, dress and detachable sleeves.

The main-dress and the sleeves are fully lined with the blue flowery fabric. And since Seere has a tail, the dress, the underskirt and the pants all have a hole to fit it through.

This can be altered by replacing the pants with a white skirt; either a long one or a shorter one, depending on the look you're going for. It would probably be classier with a skirt but pants are much more Seere's style. :3

I wish the fitting of the top was little better but I just couldn't seem to fix it no matter what I tried.

This took me about 3-4 days to make.

EDIT// The outfit is a bit bigger than 1/3 size and the doll is 65cm tall.

I haven't sculpted meat in quite a while - it's always a treat to try to capture all the shades and textures. The herbs scattered on top are crushed basil leaves

Daily Deviation: Oh my gosh....THANK YOU!! The DD description especially made me tear up a bit. I am incredibly thankful to dA for giving me such amazing exposure and the chance to have my miniatures seen by such a huge group of supportive people.

Adventure Time Christmas Ornament 2011

Due to some interest in the Adventure Time ornament I made last Christmas ([link] and [link]), I decided to try my hand at it again and made a new ornament just in time for Christmas 2011.

The one I made last year was a present for a friend. I used a porcelain ornament ball and had a lot of trouble with it- the paint did not go on it well, it needed many, many layers of paint to get a solid color, and even when completely dry, the paint was easy to scratch off.

This year I decided to try a plastic ornament- mainly because it looks like glass but wouldn't break if it falls. I used acrylic paint and Deco Color paint marker.

I chose to paint Jake and Finn from Adventure Time, decorated the ornament with silver snowflakes, and wrote "Merry Christmas" on the back. The writing is very hard to see clearly in the photos because the photos don't show the depth of seeing it in person. Took about 4 hours and 15 minutes to complete (not including drying time).

While I think the paint holds better here than on the porcelain, it was still very difficult to do even with such a simple design. Due to this, I've decided I won't be making more ornaments after this. I'm sorry if this disappoints anyone.

This ornament has been sold.

Yah I know, Oh, mah, gawd, cute!. Thats basically the point. This package sells itself obviously, so I got nothing more to say. But before you download, how about you settle down and listen to what %fangedfem has to say, since she was nice enough to put this package together for us all.

As you may already know I am quite the animal fanatic and cats are one of my favs I wanted to gather some kitten shots together to share for stock and here they are. I will be doing another pack at one point but this should get you started. Most of these pictures are of kittens I have fostered and were adopted. While we look at the collection of cute and fuzzys here please dont forget even though they are oh so adorable and you can never get enough of kittens, the cat population out there can. Over the years I have worked not only as a vet nurse, but at animal shelters as well and I can tell you from first hand experience that there is nothing more heartbreaking then having to euthanize animals because there are too many without homes. Twenty-five percent (25%) of cats - one out of every four - are destroyed daily. The majority of these cats and kittens are bright-eyed and healthy, with no physical or mental deformities.

People think its so cute that they have kittens, they love them but when they grow up they seem to lose their cuteness and most end up without homes. Dont let this happen to your pets. I have heard ALL the reasons and excuses in the world why people dont want to get their animals spayed/neutered, but NONE OF THEM are valid. And none of them make the animal feel any better when we have to look an animal in the eyes before putting it to sleep and try to explain why this has to happen. Be a RESPONSIBLE pet owner and have your pets spayed and neutered. I could go on and on about the benefits of spaying/neutering but I dont want to lecture. While you enjoy and/or use these photos just please remember to not only take care of your own pets, but help remind others as well. Thank you

I've been working like hell these past couple of weeks to get some more jewellery out. It seems no matter how much time I spend making these, I never have that much to show afterwards O_o
Where is all my time going!? I want it back!

This is the first locket I've tried making- I have a couple more to experiment with. I'm really quite proud of how this one turned out

This is a one-of-a-kind silver-plated filigree heart pendant.
On the outside, it has a red metal rose cabochon with vintage watch cogs. Inside, the locket opens up to an empty left panel (for a photo or so you can see inside) and the right panel has more vintage watch cogs and a vintage movement plate.

There's something very calming about these water drop/condensation for me. I think it's the perfect symmetry that the lines of water can have or how it looks like falling rain. It just makes my stressfulness melt away...

Anyway, this is condensation... I shot this with my macro lens and extension tubes. I edited the white balance and saturation slightly... for some reason this came out really really bright ( I think from the flash )... and I sharpened this as well.
