My Brush Pack

So these are really the only brushes I use, period. I barely, ever, use custom weird funky brushes unless its for design purpose. I find this collection achieves exactly what I want, and haven't searched elsewhere. It's like my Holy Grail so I figured all of you digi painters could use them as well!

Now you might be like "Why such a small list?" I don't mean this in an arrogant way , but I can really achieve any feeling I want with these brushes, just get used to them, play with it and it'll work out! They did for me.

I have a run down below on what each brush is used for in a painting:

Brushes

Standard Brush: This is what I use to drop my basic colors when quickly slapping down what I want. I seldom use it for actual detailing, but if I need to block in thick patches I'll use this brush.

Detailing Painting Brush: My favorite brush next to the fur brush. This one is simply used to get those nooks and crannies. If I were to use the brush above for 25% of the painting, this would be the other 75%.

Lighting Brush You know all those lens flares, over bright lights, shiny glowing areas I do? This is the brush. Use it softly and you'll achieve a nice bloom in your lighting.

Detailing Lighting Brush For tinier spots, harder lighting areas.

Texture Brush: I use this brush mostly for pores, dabbles on the skin, bumpy surfaces, or just to give texture to skin in general. Works like a charm.

Hair Brush/Smudge Brush Pretty Self Explanatory. Do I start off painting hair with this brush? No, I use the Standard Painting Brush then I go over it with this brush to create the strands/etc. As for the smudging, this is my ideal color mixer when I need to blend tones, acts like a bristle brush and merges all those nice colors together to create a creamy feel.

Chalk Brush: I use this for clouds sometimes, smoke, or just patching in colors. Works better than I can explain.

Hard Ink Brush: This I use rarely, but when I do use it, it really helps. Usually for adding glare, or tight highlights on certian objects to make them pop. Like the girls earring.

Texture Brush # 2 : This one I use a lot to get nice pores, that sweaty look or just overall skin texture.

Cloud Brush #1-3: Used to paint clouds, nuff' said.

Abrams Lighting Brush: I love this brush. In my "INSIDE THE BEAST" image, all those lighting effects you guys talked about were used with this brush.

Speckle Brush: Used for skin again, or to dirty something up.

Debris Brush: Need to create dirt flying? Tiny bumps on a sexy leg? This is it sucka.

Fur Brush: UNF! My favorite brush. I use this for skin, fur, cloth, metal, sparks, debris, glass, anything. It's a hard shell to crack, but once you do..it's a GREAT brush.

Pore Brush: Literally my 489474th brush used for skin/pores.

Glass Brush: Used to create shattered glass, papers flying, etc.

I'm very sorry for not answering any notes or comments recently. I haven't been online during the last days and hope to catch up soon.

So for now I'll leave you with a photo of this beautiful female wolf. She's indeed one of the most handsome european wolves I have seen so far. I love her black markings, her amber eyes and simply adore her biiiiig ears. Maybe I should by an annual ticket next year. The Zoo of Münster is really not far from my home.

No matter how many times I draw him, Connors infinite amount of details in that deceivingly simple look DRIVES ME NUTS.

So, its the 24th, which means that the information embargo has officially been lifted from the NDA I signed!!! SO LET ME TELL YOU GUYS - I was invited to Boston by Ubisoft on 9/17 - 9/19 to an AC3 preview event where I got to play a couple hours of Liberation, AC3 and AC3 Multiplayer!!!

There, I met Gio and Luke and Fev, who are all the most precious people, and we went on a Boston Tea Party tour where I THREW TEA OVERBOARD LIKE CONNOR and went on a mad scavenger hunt in the rain and wind with (Ubi)Gabe and generally had a lot of alcohol at the open bars. I spent the entire time being starstruck and generally in a state of really embarrassing excitement that I should probably regret more than I actually do.

But the most important piece of information I wanted to impart was the fact that there are palette swaps for Connors assassin outfit and there is a set called ASSASSIN WHITE (!!!) and I SWORE TO MYSELF ID BE THE FIRST PERSON TO EVER DRAW FANART OF IT.

I wanted to make a Journey drawing since a long time, but I ended up just making a speed drawing.

Journey is probably one of the best gaming experience i've ever had. I finished it about 5 times and always cried at the end even if I have no idea why I cry lol. (but i'm not the only one, i feel better) you have to play it with online mode activated to understand this special feeling ^^ And the music is just magic.

I'm posting a lot in these last few days XD.

But anyways - Happy Birthday to !

Her novel, Legend and Prodigy (which is coming out in next-year January, I believe) is WONDERFUL. It takes place in dystopian US and revovles around the characters Day and June. Uh, I'm bad at explaining and I don't want to ruin anything, so you can google the books up yourself, but I really liked the book and I'm waiting quite anxiously for the next one!

So this is a quick sketch because I ran out of time to do anything really nice, but I actually like it XD. Trust me, it was MUCH BETTER when it was just pencil, but my scanner is terrible and it was too rough-looking for me, so I inked it and shaded everything witha pencil - which I wish I didn't, but oh well.
(And I need a thinner pen >.> it bled EVERYWHERE and made everything so uglyyy).

This is her character June Iparis, riding a polar bear from her website Fuzz Academy (which isn't up anymore, sadly). I took most of the design for the clothes here:

Because I was trying to do something more your style, and um...please ignore the failure of that.
It's also a play on Legend of Korra, since I know you like Avatar: The Last Airbender, and thought you might like Legend of Korra - with Korra riding Naga XD. Since that was what this picture reminded me of. It was suppose to look a little different, but I drew June too big so this is what happened XD.

And I don't know what font you used for all your pictures of Legend, so I just picked a pretty one and tried to copy it - which also failed, sorry!

This is turning really long.....OKAY - SO EVERYONE, SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BECAUSE SHE IS A WONDERFUL PERSON!

The title, "Unicorn", was derived from the initial mistake from European explorers that rhinocerii were actually unicorns. I kept this in mind as I designed Sahara's headdress and the overall feel of the unicorn-and-maiden legend...

Legend of Korra: Character Concepts PT. ONE

I did all of this over a 2-3 month period. And when I say that, Im not saying that it actually took me that long to do it, its more like whenever I have an hour or two where I dont have anything to do and Im not sleeping, I work on these doodles. Its my last quarter of senior year of college, and Ive been a bit busy. I am shamed that I have not posted anything in almost three months!

I have not seen the first two episodes of the Legend of Korra, but I do plan on watching it sometime, when Im not working. I havent even caught up with YJ, Thundercats, or GL:TAS. I blame college. After class, all I want to do is cook myself a good meal and sleep. I will be so happy in two months when its all said and done!

But back to the deviation!

These are some freelance concepts that I did during school for the Legend of Korra. Keep an eye out for these characters in some upcoming episodes!

PSYCH!

Im just kidding guys! I am not working for the series nor am I affiliated with Nickelodeon in any way (though that would be sweet if I was!). These were just for fun! I got to design characters while at the same time practicing some anatomy, action poses, and perspective ← which is a totally awesome thing!

I have not really looked at the LOK costume designs that closely, so if these costumes seem a little not related, well then they probably are. XD If the anatomy looks off on these sketches, then well, thats because these poses are all from my head. No references. Hopefully I can make another sheet soon, but hopefully it wont take me 2-3 months before its complete.

I again apologize if my character bios sound cliché or wrong. Like I stated before I havent seen any episodes or read much about LOK, so my knowledge of the series is limited at best. Right now, Im just assuming that the equalists are the main opponent of Korra and the other benders. Im not sure the extent of how evil they are, but Ill just go off from there.

Btw, the characters are the left are more sketches that I had liked. They dont have names, but they might make upcoming appearances on more model sheets like this one. Some of their costumes inspired the main characters below.

THE KEYSTONES- Earth Benders

Im imagining these to be a group of rogue earth benders who cause constant headaches to the Equalists. But just because they fight against the loyalists doesnt make them automatic friends and allies to Korra and her crew. But theyre not exactly loose cannons, as the group is fairly controlled well by SISTER ROKK. After all, she is the one who formed the group. Without her guidance, the rest of the guys and girl would undoubtedly have tough lives.

They all have a tattoo of the old earth kingdom symbol somewhere on their bodies.

TILA
Age: 19
She is one tough cookie, and she likes strong leadership. She has more mastery over earthbending than ALTI, but she is not as good as JI HUAN or SISTER ROKK. However, she is the groups best metal bender. She is a fan of pro-bending, and he often gets extreme crushes on whoever seems to be the strongest pro-bender at any particular time, (she might be Korras biggest fan!). Shes loves her younger brother Alti, dearly, and would do anything for him. Her tattoo is on her left shoulder, and her signature move is Iron Maiden. ← which by the way is not fatal, but damn it hurts.

I think out of all of these four, she was the most fun to design an alter. You dont really see too many girls with semi-bald heads, but that gives you a lot of leeway to play with hairstyles and hair arrangement. How does she keep her hairstyle like that you ask? She has rocks under her hair, duh! ← actually I dont know about that, it was the first thing that came to my mind.

Shes a little flat-chested (which is totally neat. How many flat-chested girls do you see on screen?), but she has hips like DAYUM, so shes all good.

ALTI
Age: 17
Crazy, but with a heart of gold. Adores his older sister TILA. He loves her so much that he changed his name to ALTI, T-I-L-A rearranged, so that he would feel connected to her as close as possible since theyre not related by blood. He is the best hand to hand combat person in the group, but has the weakest mastery over earthbending. His tattoo is splayed huge on his back, and his signature move is Rock Clutch.

Yeah so hes like Farfarello from Weiss Kreuz who got transported to Jamaica and got a really nice tan. Oh except he has both eyes. I think hes got a little King Bumi in him.

JI HUAN
Age: 20
Sort of like the second leader of the group. Usually very calm but can get offended and angry easily. He specializes in sand-bending, and is known for his trademark blue hair. He is fiercely loyal to the group, especially SISTER ROKK, although TILA and ALTI drive him crazy sometimes. His tattoo is on the small of his back, and his trademark move is the Sand Wall.

How many ATLA or LOK characters do you see with different colored hair? NONE! Haha! What you gonna do now?!

SISTER ROKK
Age: 29
She is an earth bender and the founder and leader of the group. As the oldest of the group, by at least nine years, she acts like a surrogate older sister to everyone, albeit more tough and demanding than a typical sibling. Her tattoo is on her hip, and he signature move is Jericho. ← yeah, Jericho doesnt really make much sense in the LOK universe, but I think its a good fit for her character and style of fighting.

She is heavily into tradition and pays homage to her ancestors and the earthbenders before her by wearing more traditional garb and hairstyles rather than the more modern clothes of her associates. To her friends, she is simply known as ROKK.

Some months ago I created a new folder with unfinished paintings/sketches and also intermediate steps of finished paintings. Basically it's a collection of a lot of crappy images I did over the last years that I think had some potential if taken further or reworked. This is one of my attempts to try and make something interesting out of something not worth looking at. Let me know your thoughts.

Ezio on top of Venice! It took all day to do this and this will be my last submission for the next..2 weeks or more. Original is way bigger, maybe ill post a detail shot somewhere in the future.

EDIT: I sharpened the image so ezio and the eagle look more clearer and the cross while the city remainds blurred. i hope this works out better?

Assassins Creed II

Now this is a great game! I wasn't to sure about it at first because the first got really old too quick.. Very repetitive.
But Assassins Creed II is so much different, it's addictive, enjoyable and impressive!

I just had to make some artwork on it! The first thing that came to my head when brainstorming the scene was a nice high view. It's the best way to portray the game I think, since it's revolved around climbing tonnes of buildings and taking out targets.. I was originally hoping to make him look like an eagle somehow.

The main character Ezio's outfit is awesome too, such an improvement from Altiar's, so it was fun to draw

Anyways enjoy

3/10/2011 Edit: Fixed up the colors and moved some things around. Like the last update I did, the image has been adjusted to poster size. Old version can be seen here. I never noticed the lack of contrast in the background Aangs, so that was my main concern with editing this one XD. Other than that, I didn't want to change much :]

First Side - Good ol', lovable Aang .

Second Side - The various Avatar States, representing Aang's non-native elements.

Phew, this reminded me a lot of working on Raven's 'Two Sides' picture: a four character collage -- all of the same person .

I worked really hard on this one. And for once, I didn't cut any corners and used pretty much everything I know .

Personally, I'm just happy I managed to post a full picture after so long .

Edit: The water, fire, and earth effects were really fun to draw. Must do more of that in the future, lol.

Edit: Even though some people said it wasn't a problem, I fixed Aang's back tattoos, for the sake of accuracy XD.

Season 3 Avatar fanart

So far, the Best Season of the Best Show ever. XD
No words can describe my worship (just saw episode 310 and 311 and died a little) so it had to be expressed in fanart before I went mental.

The Gaang with costumes (and personal interpretations of - ) from the first half of season 3. Everybody looks 4 years older, (not on purpose) and Sokka has a really long head which I love : ).

I tried to avoid blue and tried a more original group composition than my previous fanart, less characters and asymmetrical, but couldn't resist the V-shape at the bottom. It just... works this way.

Tried to really push the dynamics here. Toph was a challenge, but now that pose is my fav, hehe. The animation of her moves really inspired me.

Based on these sketches i did a while ago, and this older fanart.
