These lightbulbs have a very simple AI that tells them to drift over to stuff, and be helpfully shiny. Since they don't know if other lightbulbs are around, they tend to swarm.

Stupid helpful lightbulbs.

2010 - Watercolor, gouache and acrylic

It took me forever to just start painting this. I have been talking, rambling about this idea of mine for a while. The idea became even more concrete once I saw the works of --> take a look!

Then I was working on my portfolio and I was run into a corner and "forced" myself to try it out.

The technique is pretty simply start off with a wash and darken it bit by bit. White gouache added to make the stars.

It was a great deal of fun, although the shape is off ( ; _ ; )
Makes me sad, which is why I went ahead and did another one!!

Here is the other one. A lot harder, but so much more rewarding experience. I would probably have gone a bit insane on the details if it weren't for my time constraint > _ >

Still... I am really happy with the result. Except for one detail...
The blue stars... on black it looks really nice/perfect but on the colored part it looks a bit washed out/dark. I hate that!!
Then I realized that they sold metallic colored gouache... > o <
I wish i had used that instead... *sigh* Next time!

So I started a painting and it looked absolutely nothing like this and I got it roughed out and laid down some color and said "This is not right."

So I started another painting that had some elements of this, but also a bunch of rocks and other crap, and it was utterly and totally wrong and I painted rocks for three hours and said "This is not right and also I hate it and also I am a terrible artist and this is horrible and awful and I am going to go become a warthog farmer and never paint again."

So then I did this painting and said "Right. Okay. That was it. Whew. What was I thinking with that other thing, anyway?" and canceled the shipment of warthogs and all was right with the world.

There has got to be an easier way to get a painting right, but I have yet to find it.

When humans left the planet for the last time, they took their gods that remained with them. Only a few gods, more stubborn or more dutiful than their brethren, stayed behind on the fallow earth.

Even in the absence of a dominant sentient species, the amount of godstuff produced by even a battered planet was far in excess of that required by these weary survivors. New proto-gods began to form, spawned from the dreams of grasses and the fears of rats. Small and colorless, their shapes fluid, these homunculi were made and unmade based on weather and imperceptible shifts in the magnetic field.

Confused as to their own purpose (if any) these homunculi sometimes fell into old patterns and sometimes, where the channels had been worn flat, branched out and formed new ones.

I try not to take myself or my art too seriously. It's a real danger, sometimes. Fortunately, I have models like Rael to help me keep things real.

This is a trickier lighting set up than usual. There's a gridded spotlight behind the chair to the right, to create the highlights by shining through the plastic. To fill the scene there is a large softbox to the left, dialed down just enough to light the side of her face. How is it that the side of her face is bright and her legs aren't? That's photoshop.

I had very much fun painting this piece, the organic flows allows you to paint freely without worrying too much about variances.

Painted all the way with Photoshop CS3 and Wacom Graphire 4 tablet.

DAILY DEVIATION 0-0 THANK YOU. I AM SHOCKED...

My fingers where frozzen 0-0 it is beautiful out but having a metal object in your hand without gloves SUCKS lol. Anyway my puppy playing in a snow bank, she loves snow and so well mom threw a snow ball right infront of me where I was crouched and she came sliding in and all the snow came woshing at me lol.

We just came back from the vet, she doesn't really like it there but shes a good girl. Everything is fine we got more ointment for her ear for another week and some wash.

One Odd Ocelot

A reader asked me a few weeks back if I'd ever considered doing a 1-2-3 to go with the A-B-C paintings I did. I *hadn't* ever thought of it, and I was struck by the notion--there's a lot fewer paintings, even if I did 1-10, than in a whole alphabet, and I am not crushed under the weight of X. (Curse you, X!) And since I was doing stuff that started with O, I got to slide in a few random O things just to make it suitably weird.

So I started doodling around with this, and suddenly the painting madness hit, and about six hours later, here it was. (I blame the rubber chicken.) Despite going Very Very Fast, it was a fairly tricky painting to do--I started with a dark green background and pulled all the colors out of that, so it would be a very unified color scheme, and the "inking" of the edges is all done in dark teal rather than black. (The only true black in the painting are the darkest bit of the ocelot's pupils, and the bits that look white--other than the border!--are actually a fairly dark cream.) I was fairly pleased at how the colors came out, though--it's worth it, it's just an occasionally excruciating way to paint.

Whether this will be followed with Two Texting Tamanduas or Three Thylacine Thinkers or whatever is up in the air, since I never, ever commit to a series, but I rather hope it will be.

Well, here's the first of many images from last night's Open House at D.M. Gremlin Studios.

Evina, our lady warrior, does in deed appear to have tamed the beast.

We had great fun, a great tun out and people enjoying all manner of artistic mayhem. I got to try some new things out, like covering ~Chameleon609 in all manner of goo for a nice critter effect.

Major huge thank you to =littlegett for assisting with application, wardrobe and then of course, some serious bloodwork at the end.

From what I was seeing on camera back, there are going to be a lot of very cool images popping up.
