For our 26th exhibition, we have returned with "Evoke III". Once again, our members have experimented with their mediums and produced a set of beautiful artwork, photography and music.

This is the first exhibit to be paired with a live gallery exhibition in Baltimore, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Anthony Gargasz, James Merril, Parker Gibson, Ted Yavuzkurt and more. As this exhibit is being released, people are already enjoying these works and meeting some of the artists who created them.

RDN is our featured artist this time around. His striking digital paintings raised the bar this time around. Khyzyl Saleem, Ricardo Juarez, Luca Genovese and many more created stunning graphic illustrations, while Ian Steele and Oliver Gareis produced cool 2d vector work. All of which is accompanied by slick audio from JB Gordon and Ben Bruce.

This project was beyond a challenge for me but I'm happy with the results. It was a great chance to just keep experimenting with painting too. Everything is painted except for the 3D shapes you see on the face.

Star Citizen - Roberts Space Industries Ship UI

Interactive Demo (click the Hornet image)

This was a rather quick (2 weeks) UI demo I whipped up as a "test of capabilities" when I was interviewing for a position at Cloud Imperium Games, the company responsible for the highly anticipated Star Citizen space sim.

It is built entirely in HTML5/CSS/JS, but might not work on some devices as well as IE8 or lower (not enough time for compatibility testing!).

Basically, this is supposed to be a ship catalogue viewer to display each ship's hardpoints, specs, upgrade capabilities, etc. in a full-screen FUI/OS'ish style interface. You can rotate / flip the ship to see all angles and where everything is located. A more polished version would have a dropdown to switch to another ship, but I was only required to display the Hornet.

I've been onboard the Star Citizen team for a little over two months now, and am in charge of UI and front-end development. The Roberts Space Industries site is currently undergoing a massive and much needed redesign overhaul. You can get a glimpse of some of my work on the new site design here (the 6 preview tiles later down in the post).

I spent a good deal of time on this particular design, despite how simple it looks. I kept bouncing from one idea to another until I finally came to this version. At one point the design was about 95% identical to one of swhich happens to be my main source for inspiration.

^{Origram was the first font I designed. It borns from the curiosity that I have by typefaces. Inspired in Origamis and Tangrams, the basic shape is an octagon. Geometric, regular, is a display font! Isn't appropriate to be used in common text but to be used in big scales, like posters, outdoors, logos, ...

Windows are glass, after all, why can't Windows be glass too

I originally made this to be a widescreen wallpaper for my friends laptop, which runs at 1280x800, which you can find at this [link]
There are also other variations that are not glass which you can see at this [link] ...it also is widescreen laptop size.

Technical Details

Made in Maya, rendered with Mental Ray. Sampling at min 1 max 3 with Mitchell filter. Lit entirely with final gathering, at 60,000 accuracy and .04/.4 radius. This happens to be the first image I've made using start to finish that new dielectric replacement shader that I got that guy to make, which you can find at this [link]

I would like it if FOR ONCE deviantart wouldn't fuck up the image I submit at first, making me have to edit it like 3 or 4 times right after I submit. That's anonying to em and I bet it is to my watchers too isn't it?

Magnetic is a web company that has beautiful natural surroundings, located on a lake and wildlife preserve, so I really wanted to reflect that in the design (the turtle is actually one of the many that hangs around the office).

The site has a day/night script that automatically detects the time and switches themes accordingly. You can also switch it manually using the sun/moon icons at top-right.
