Adwaita Fontforge Theme

A quick fontforge theme to integrate better with the Adwaita theme on Gnome 3. (Default Fontforge theme.)

One bug: once you reopen fontforge, it changes Gdraw.GHVGroupBox.Box.BorderWidth to 2, instead of 0. It also changes others, but only that affects the appearance visibly. (This is actually a bug with fontforge.)

Created with Photoshop around July 2010 in about 2 hours. Wanted to try something new when I took a picture of a log that looked pretty cool. That's the texture that I used for the planet. You can see its center around the bottom right of the planet. I think it look unrealistic but it's still nice in my opinion.

EDIT Thank you for so many valuable suggestions and advice for improving this! This is what dA is for. If you look closely you'll see that I already started giving this painting it's final tweaks. Guess there'll be one more change (regarding the arms) but then I'll have to leave it like this because it's taking too much of my time and I want to finish new paintings. And a HUGE thank you to everybody who loved and faved this!

EDIT (15.04.2010) WOOoooot???! I came home with such a bad mood and now I'm on cloud nine! A DD! I never thought I would get one of these. I promise, I'll read all of your comments and try to reply every single one of you.

A MILLION THANKS TO THE SUGGESTERS and but also to who suggested this too but for another category (np, dear! this counts for me just the same) - and many thanks to for featuring this!!!

EDIT: Fixed some of the things that bugged you and some of those that seemed to only bug me Hope it's better now... (I had only one hour so those are slight changes: some better shadows and light effects, improvement of the coat's shape, some color, saturation & texture-fixes, some more grass, a 5px blur on cocoon outline, and an overall grain effect to make it look more homogenic). Please comment if you detect something else to be fixed

Yep, I just arrived at Archylte Steppe and am finally seeing grass and the blue sky! What a relief! - Final Fantasy country finally, now I only need a Chocobo to make me happy. To celebrate the day I took a snapshot of Snow there and started to paint him.

The First Photoshop Icon Redux

Been learning Pixel art along with my hectic academic schedule all this while. This is the redux of the very first Photoshop icon John Knoll created for the program. You can read more about it here : [link] In my opinion a novel icon considering the time it was produced and more content aware than any official icon used for it till now. I have replaced the teller depicted in the icon with a designer, designing on his mac . I have used only GIMP for designing this icon. Hope you guys enjoy this release, as much as I did working on it. It is licensed under CC so any one can use them to make the bigger versions, if they please.

Tilt-Sensitive GIMP Brush

It is a brush that aims to behave like a pencil. The line becomes wider as you tilt your stylus, perpendicularly to the tilt direction.

The sample image above was made with a single brush, by holding the stylus straight above the tablet (center image), and by tilting it vertically (left image) or horizontally (right image).

INSTALLING
There are two folders in the archive: Linux and Windows. Go into the folder corresponding to your OS and unzip the two GIH brushes into the brushes subdirectory of your GIMP config directory.

NOTE TO WINDOWS USERS
For some reason the X- and Y-tilt directions of the stylus seem to be reversed in GIMP for Windows. This is why I have to provide a different version of the brushes for Windows. This doesn't work yet, I'll look into it very soon.

Gimp Palettes

Some GIMP palettes.

For those new to GIMP.
After downloading the zip file, unzip the contents into any folder. There are 11 files with .gpl (Gimp palette) extension. Copy the ones you want to use into :

C:\Documents and Settings\your user name here\.gimp-version here\palettes (in windows)

Do not copy the folders to GIMP palettes folder. GIMP does not look in sub-folders.

To open the palettes.
1-Use Windows > Disabled dialogs > Pallets.
2-Double click on the ones you intend to use.

To use the palette with Inkscape, copy palette file into appropriate directory. usually ...\inkscape\share\palettes

You can also use the above image as touch palette, used with color picker in any application.

I am a Gimp nuvie (I just installed GIMP 2.8.0 and opened it for the first time about 1 hour ago). How's that for new? LOL.

In any case, I am not sure what version of windows are you using but I am assuming is not "Windows 7" which is the version I use and one of the reasons I had a bit of trouble and had to do research to install these palettes. So I wanted to share with you what I learned, in case you want to include this information in you instructions.

first of all the root folder to save the files is:
C:\Users\your user name here\.gimp-version here\palettes (Windows 7 does not have a "C:\Documents and Settings" anymore).

Then, In GIMP, (I don't know if they are the same for any GIMP or other Windows versions) but these are the steps I followed to get the palettes to show.

Open the "Palettes" tool bar
Click "configure this tab" button and select
- Palettes Menu
- Import Palette

In the "Import a New Palette" window

- Select "Palette file" and click the "folder icon"
- double click "your user name"
- double click ".gimp-(your version)"
- double click "palettes"
- select the palette to import
- click "Open"
- click "Import"

Any way, I think this information would be most useful to other "inexperienced" users like me

This step by step and carefully explained tutorial covers basic eye/face coloring, detailed hair and fur, etc. (mostly basics on how to do realistic drawings)

! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO DRAW THE HUMAN ANATOMY OR REALISTIC FORMS, but instead is a tutorial for how to cg or color realistically.

Since many people keep asking me if this works on photoshop versions such as 7.0, CS, CS2 or CS3, the answer is yes. If this works in ps elements then it should obviously work on higher versions.

Due to it being ripped within 3 days of being online, I am watermarking it. It may be extreme, but, tbh atm, I am too upset to leave it as it was. I MEAN, ITS RIDICULOUS......I left just a small watermark, and it was ripped and the watermark was removed...and a cc license was applied...Don't take my work. GIMP.Brushes::Grass

Some animated grass brushes for the GIMP.

I had the idea to make them after finding a photoshop tutorial for maknig "grass", and that used grass brushes for photoshop. As I did'nt know where to find brushes looking like this for the GIMP, I made them

EDIT : Oops, I forgot to say that the best way to use those brushes is to create a gradien -from dark green to light green for example - and specify "gradient" in the brush tool options. This will allow you to paint the grass with different shades of green.

To install: put the .gbr files in the correct directory. Which should be something like C:\Users\{user account}\.gimp-2.6\brushes for windows users, or ~/.gimp-2.6/brushes for linux.
In general, searching by yourself for "installing brushes in gimp" with your favorite search engine should give you what you need, in a much faster way than asking here, on this account I barely use anymore.
