Photos from the Moscow festival of Japanese animation in Moscow cha-no-yu 2013. Which took place last week. The idea came because of the boots, which I originally made for another cosplay. But suddenly I came across a hefty black boa and it started me on the idea. On creation took about a month. True wings collected in the last two days before the festival. And I collected one hour before the show and just did not miss. But all ended well, the suit has received the prize for the best performance in its category ^^

I remember watching Evangelion as a kid when the first release of good fansubs hit, many years ago. Of course it had a huge impact on me as an anime fan, and artist. Over the years I have always wanted to make a plugsuit from EVA but my favorite character was Misato, who's outfits were simplistic and casual.
FINALLY, someone designs a plugsuit-ish outfit for Misato, and it is very fan service and revealing. But it's probably the closest I'll ever get to see Misato in a plugsuit, and I decided to make the outfit. From the get-go, I wanted to make modesty alterations to the outfit, so my dress is longer and there are no floating boob cups, just flattering princess seams.
I used 4-way stretch PVC to make a base dress with front and side seams, then cut it up to create all the interesting top-stitched seams on the design, while interjecting navy blue faux leather panels. I patterned everything myself, which meant a lot of mock-ups in cheap left over spandex and drawing lines on them. I also patterned and made the thigh highs and arm sleeve things, as well as the hip rolls and all the accessories. I even made my gloves. To achieve the shapes needed, I used everything from EVA foam in various thicknesses, worbla, floral foam, and squishy tube foam. Everything was covered in PVC for that unified sleek plugsuit look. I also cast aluminum powdered buttons and round side pieces. Work in progress collage: [link]

I cut about a foot off, and styled the bangs ala Misato.

I'm super grateful to the 4 fantastic photographers and videographers who came to the photo location with me, which was a little further away from the convention. Martin did his magic and I couldn't be happier with the image!

About the Photo:
Unexpected invitation from ~japepong --- good thing my camera didn't die in the middle of the shoot even if it was half full (I was able to charge it an hour before the shoot).

Good thing I am familiar with the Anime and the Location the only problem was all of my Strobe Gears where broken so I have to rely on their gears --- I only brought my camera on that Day and an extra Lens (which is I found pretty useful).

The setup was buddy system (yay! I can leech strobe to my buddy) and I ended up with another Canon user (the only canon user on that shoot aside from me), Jemarc Mojica.

With 10+ cosplayers to shoot from 2pm-6pm (4hours) -- and me as a slow shooter, I decided to take random snapshot of every cosplayer I bumped into every now and then~

And here is one them~

In the end, this plan didn't work out that well because of the place was pretty huge. OTL

Post-Processing:
Left side is warm and the Right side is cold to show their differences -- Light and Darkness.

***sorry for the inconsistent angle, Zagato can't lean that much on the window because of his armor -- Also I want the scene that "hey I am watching you from the shadows". OTL

*Been awhile since my last update*
One of my backlogs last 2012, we had a chance to have a shoot to an awesome "Abandoned Theatre".
In this shoot, I am expecting that the place would be tight that's why I brought my 11-16mm (plus I dont have any choice back then because my 30mm prime was in somebody elses hands that time). ^_^v

So yeah, I have to shoot in WIDE. The problem is its distortion~
I have to put the distortion in the right place so that the subject will not look awkward --- and its been awhile since I used my wide --- so the first few shots took me awhile to compose. PLUS... I am not familiar with the game so I have to constantly asked the cosplayer about their character and then look for pegs in the net.

Good thing we had an awesome set of cosplayers in combination with the awesome location!
