I adore Tangled for many reasons, but historical accuracy isn't one of them. It's actually the first Disney film that feels entirely set in its own fantasy world, with no real ties to any particular time period or setting- unless you count that ever-forgiving time period of "Ren Faire."

Since this is the last one in the series (so far as official princesses go), I thought I'd treat myself and just have fun with it. I drew up concepts for both the 16th century (the slashed sleeves) and 18th (Keane's initial inspiration), but in the interest of choosing a time period I hadn't touched yet I ended up going with the late Regency. There are a ton of gowns circa 1820 that have those inimitably princessy sleeves, and those palace guards aren't fooling anyone.

Sooooo Mulan. It's not that I didn't want to do Mulan (she's fantastic so far as the Disney "princesses" go), but pinning down her time period stopped being fun and rapidly became a headache- you have the original legend taking place in the Wei Dynasty, the Huns as an actual threat during the Western Han Dynasty, the Forbidden City of the Ming Dynasty, the hanfu fashion setting it earlier AGHGHGhjffjhfghgjhkh

On that note, I'll be the first to admit that this piece isn't tying Mulan down to a particular period, rather putting her in plausible historical textiles and hanfu. When I was asking around for references most of the stuff sent my way were from Chinese period films or other modern recreations, so I just threw up my hands and decided to have fun with it.

It's based on Mulan's finale/epilogue costume at the end of the film; she never seemed at home in either the matchmaker costume or the armor, so this seemed like the best "Mulan has come into her own" middle ground.

Okay, Okay, yes, I'm a forgetful person. Not like you didn't know already. Besides, the scanner's crap and messed up the colour and shit. It made it too bright.

IN A NUTSHELL AND A HALF:

Here's the story about a prince. The Prince of Whales (yes, laugh at the pun. Laugh at it). He longs for the day to run alongside humans, laugh among them, live with them, and to be, well... human. One day as he's daydreaming, he hears a faint noise and lo and behold! It's a girl. She seems to be upset and when she notices the prince (well duuuh! Who wouldn't notice a whale ten feet in front of you?) she asks who he is, to which he politely replies: "I'm the Prince of Whales." They exchange their thoughts and dreams. He wants to be a human, and she a whale. So, wanting to cheer her up, the whale takes her for a ride (but remember kids, when strangers offer you a ride, don't agree). After a while the girl get's homesick and wants to go back home. He complies and the girl thanks him for opening her stupid little eyes. Who the hell wouldn't miss home? And dinner? As the whale swims back home, he realizes that the girl is right- home is where the heart is.

Or some random philosophical shit like that.

And yes, I know. I've practically gone AWOL on dA. I've been sitting my ass in front of Tumblr waaay too much anyway. And I deeply apologize for not being here. I really mean it. I really wish I could say that I've been on some kind of spiritual and emotional journey to find myself, but the truth is that sometimes you just have to get away from something. And this case, being dA. So, yeah, I'm probably not gonna be updating as much, but still. I've got stuff coming up, so stay tuned!

Whoo, I finally did! Even if doesn't seem, I spent a lot of time on this, and it wasn't easy!
Imagine that every part of the drawing (face, eyes, mouth, the tied ribbon, a piece of the long dress) was on a separeted layer, and for every part there were other levels for light and shadows. In the end I ended up with more of 100 levels. Yes. more of 100 on this little piece. Yeah.

Aaaaaanyway, do you know who's her? She's Emma Pillsburry, from the tv Show "Glee"
I'm rewatching the first season, how beautiful it was? I didn't remember it was so!

I find Snape's backstory one of the most fascinating subplots of the entire Harry Potter series. His character depth is amazing; his true intentions were carefully hidden under his ambiguous nature. He's so tragic, so flawed, so human thus it's no surprise that he's my favourite character by far. His love for Lily is admirable and boundless which is why if you look carefully, a smile is upon his face. And maybe they're even holding hands. Childhood generously gave them their innocence, but as they grew up, the laughter, smiles, and hugs slurred together and became mere memories.

A huge project started mid-way through the Vancouver Canucks VS Boston Bruins Playoff Series, and finally got this done today.

This is the biggest piece of artwork i've done to date, and I have my boys to thank for the inspiration and motivation. Combining the things I love: FF + KH + Hockey = Better than the best chocolate cake in the world (and believe me, i'm a chocolate cake fiend >w>) I know there are a few characters missing, but you can pretend they're the ones dressed up in as the Green Men lolol I can just imagine everyone congregating in Twilight Town to watch on a big screen LOL

I absolutely love my team, and I want to thank them for inspiring so many and filling my evenings with so much excitement. It was such an emotional season, but I will always be behind my boys. We've had the taste of the cup, so we'll be back to take it home next year

After drawing this, I had this little dream the other night: when Severus Snape dies, his life sort of "resets". He wakes up to this little girl, and while he doesn't understand exactly what's going on, he knows this life is his, she's his daughter, and that someone he's waited all his life for is in the kitchen downstairs. When I told Kit about the dream, she said I had to draw it. I figured us Snape lovers can use all the sweet fanart we can get right about now. Ice the wound.

I realized after drawing the room that his new life is clearly Muggle. Which is just fine, except that it's hard to imagine Snape dressed in anything other than that button-heavy waistcoast, especially anything you'd call pajamas. Can't beat a cotton pullover, though.

The cat is my cat, General Sterling Price, who forms a perfect circle when sleeping. I feel like Snape would've been a happier man if he'd had a cat or a dog. Even a turtle. Anything that would be happy to see him, you know?

For once I didn't use brushes! I might finally have enough little pattern doodles to make my own brush set, if I knew how.
