This painting is the first in a series exploring the four elements.

My Earth Goddess is an arbutus tree, which grows on Vancouver island. It is an extremely resilient tree that does not lend itself well to building or carving. It is also not a good choice for fire wood. I could think of no better tree to turn into a goddess! She is surrounded by wolves, the ultimate symbol of the wild spirit. The wolves are accompanied by ravens, who are a symbol of creation. Legends tell of the raven bringing light to the earth by placing the sun and the moon into the sky.

This is something I've been meaning to do for ages!
The awesome Husky pointed out ages ago that the Mutalisk wireframe in SC2 looks like a flying t-rex and ever since I'd wanted to draw it (for obvious reasons!), but never gotten around to.
SO I finally actually met Husky () on Sunday after MLG Anaheim and that got me re-inspired to pull my finger out.

So a gift for Husky, to thank him for the hours of SC2 that I've watched on his channel

DEAD MOON PROMO

Promo piece for the upcoming work I'll be doing with Angry Art Press on their title DEAD MOON. Lots of great folks involved with this project so I hope I can do the book justice.

The piece was drawn on two 11"x17" sheets of board with a really light non-photo blue pencil for the layout, a red lead for roughing in of details and finished with an F lead.

How have I not posted this to DA? Shame on me. A late night workout and inability to sleep has convinced me I should remedy this.

This is my primary steampunk/neo-victorian khaki get-up that I just wore far too much at Comic-Con. Though I designed it originally as a Vulcanologist, It's being slowly but surely adapted into a Mummy Hunter costume to mesh more with my monster-hunting friends over in the League of S.T.E.A.M. [link] . Not much of a stretch really- the khaki looks good against sweltering desert sands.

It is what it is, most of the description is in the piece itself- fully corseted twill bustle dress made from a number of adapted Truly Victorian patterns, which I cannot live without.

Finished image of acceptance from the series of images the Harvest. This piece was drawin in fountain pen ink (blue and brown) onto bockingford watercolour paper and layered with several washes of light tea.

Starting to work in some detail and balance this piece out - various additions to the image such as connecting the plants to the hair I am happy with, just trying to get some colour intensity in the shadow areas - the pencil underdrawing makes the ink quite dull and once it is painted over it is impossible to remove the graphite. Still I don't want to start using opaque colours on the piece. Would love your feedback as always on the piece as it is developing. Thanks

The Music Trees

There is a place, deep in the forest, where the natives bring their youth for the coming-of-age ceremony. In their culture, music is enormously important, and each person only uses one instrument in their entire lives; they become a master at it. But their lifestyle is tribal; where do these instruments come from? They come from the grove of the music trees, a strange curling orchard that occasionally blooms instruments! Tangled in the roots of these trees grow bongos, bass drums, timpani, djembe, and cajón. In their leaves sprout clarinets, gongs, ukuleles and ...vuvuzelas. The youth come to this grove to pick their first and only instrument; they always know exactly which one is fitted to them best. The exact location of the grove is a jealously guarded secret. What is your instrument?

This piece is about 11 x 17 in, done in markers and white gel pen. Yeah, that's right. White gel pen. The kind you used in 6th grade to write notes across the desks to your peers on dark paper. xD

In Native American culture, a hummingbird symbolizes timless joy and the Nectar of Life. It's a symbol for accomplishing that which seems impossible and will teach you how to find the miracle of joyful living from your own life circumstances.

They are really spectacular birds, and have a lot to teach a person about self discovery and healing.

It stands for immortality. Or sometimes the Sun.
Hummingbird is seen by some as a messenger of love and joy. It symbolises energy, wonder and swift action. It is associated with the Ghost Spirit native American religion which teaches a dance that is intended to return the natural balance of the world.

The hummingbird represent abundant life and joy.

Antique Objects-Still Life

This is a quick still life study of several antique objects in my collection of stuff. It is painted in oils on a wooden cigar box card (is tere a name for those? it's about a 1mm cedar card that covers the cigars). I got a bunch of these because they are usually thrown away, and I want to use these lovely slices of wood for something.
I primed only the area I wanted to actually paint on, and lacquered the wood to seal it.

Well, it's all done. I can't say I'm 100% happy with it but it turned out okay. I might go and do some digital touch ups... but I think I actually might like the fish better darker than they were in the roughs..

We shall see! Some of the colours were hard to get with the gouache, cause I didn't have a good turquoise, and the watercolour won't mix with the Acryla Gouache very well...

We had to do an illustration based on those scam e-mails, and mine was about a fisherman who died, and then some random bank lady wants to send you his money before his account goes dead. The fish don't really have anything to do with the story BUT I LIKE THEM so there they are.

Hey, guess what?-- I'm drawing an issue of Doc Savage for DC Comics written by none other than JG Jones!

I thought I'd leak a page to build some interest. Doc Savage is a character originally published in American pulp magazines during the 1930s and 1940s. DC has sort of fused retro and modern in this version.

It's already a lot of fun to draw! Hope you dig it!

During the Wizard World Chicago Con, I did a pen and ink piece for an Artist/friend Cory Smith (www.corysmithart.com) who loves Zombies and fav character is Batman. He is a huge fan of Tony Moore's work and I was inspired to fuse the two together [zombie and Batman]... After finishing the pen and ink, I couldn't wait to get back in my studio and color it...I used photoshop to layer all the details.... By next big convention, I will have limited Ed. prints
of this piece...
