Environment study -speedpaint-

Here's a landscape speedpaint I worked on a little while at the first week of school, before the work started to pick up. It's inspired by the colors of Thomas Cole, one of the Hudson River School painters of American landscapes. (By inspired, I just mean looked at-- I didn't colorpick.) I also based it loosely on one of his paintings.

Still not done yet, but thought I'd post my progress in tutorial form. Hope you find it useful.

Anyway, composition still bothers me... I think it's a bit too choppy with too many similarly-sized shapes breaking up the space... Live and learn I guess.

At first,i really have no idea on what to do for this submition,so,i decided to take a walk in Bangkok's Chinatown (Yaowaracha),and while i'm browsing in some antique phonograph shop,the composition for this image popping up in my head with no reason at all,i guess that i've some memories with those machines,listening to analogue music at silent afternoon in my hometown,that was good old day,so,i decide to put the Pepper in the scene of my memories,hopes everyone enjoy it!

Ca fait longtemps que je voulais me mettre à dessiner ce lieu, c'est l'un des décors que vous retrouverez dans le tome 2 des Voisins du Chaos. C'est au cur du bois d'antigone, pas loin de la demeure de Léthan.
Pour faire ce décors, j'ai du casser plein de vieille statues que j'ai acheté pas chers à l'office du tourisme grecque. Comme ils sont ruinés, ils bradent tout leur bibelots touristiques.

Je reçois ces derniers temps beaucoup de courrier de lecteur pour me demander ce que devient Hikarion depuis qu'ils ne s'occupe plus des aplats de ma BD.
Et bien, le pauvre ne va pas fort, malgré le fait qu'ils soit devenu multimillionaire après m'avoir fait un procès pour l'avoir rémunéré avec des fausse pièces en chocolat. C'était du chocolat blanc et il exigeait du praliné.

Mais malgré nos différents, ma présence lui manque beaucoup. Il m'écrit souvent pour me dire qu'il regrette tous ces merveilleux moments passé ensemble lorsque que je lemmenait faire des tours de manèges au jardin des plantes.

Ça a au moins le mérite d'être spectaculaire.

D'ailleurs en parlant de performance, suite à la vague de froid le transformateur EDF du quartier de mon atelier a pété et nous avons été privés de courant pendant deux jours. Au moment où je vous écrit je suis en train de pédaler pour alimenter mon ordinateur et un de mes coloc d'atelier à mis ses mains au micro onde pour les réchauffer. Il sera donc possible que je mette un peu plus de temps que d'habitude à répondre aux messages.

We're still plugging' hard on Cryamore! Hope you guys still check the blog out! We update rather often.

This will be an entrance to the Northern Caverns. Not finished, of course. (And not the actual size/resolution in-game.) I'll draw up the world map some time when I get back from Otakon so you guys can have a full-view of Noka Island.

Also, we may pull on a helper for some background help in the next month or so. I'll keep you guys posted.

Rock Cities

It seems like a really long time since I painted a good Sci-Fi/Fantasy Environment - one of the things that got me interested in painting again. I really tried to create a story with this one, things that had happened in the past that have shaped these giant rock spires which became the homes of people living in this area.

Started out as just a sketch but I kept working on it to flesh out the details and make it something I'll be proud of. I think this, more than any of my other work has a real Ralph McQuarrie feel to it which I'm really happy about.

2nd work with wacom

Alright I always wanted to create buildings and structures. Rise up cityes and bring light to them. I guess tis was pretty close to what I wanted to make. I consider this a speed painting, scince its not finished at all, but I managed to give some exttra detail to the composition and lighting. The size is big enough to appreciate.

This image is about a hidden city as the title says. Even if you are on the biggest city in the world, you can always find small, "lost" places that speak by themselves, places that have their own stories andtraditions

Im now learning to use a more delicated and precise color palette, wich makes me feel so great

Anyway, hope you like my second attemp with a tablet guys

Hey everyone, it's sure has been a while! Here's a new concept environment for a personal project in Cry Engine 3. It's sort of this high altitude airship village. People in this town love to catch skyfish, which are really good to eat.

I'm going for a strong How to Train your Dragon + Final Fantasy 4 vibe.

There's a bunch of work from my time at Insomniac Games that I've yet to post, so there's a bunch more coming.
