So I had to pause work on the low poly of my elite, because I was lucky enough to be a part of a ZBrush book with Vitaly Bulgarov and Vik Sorensangbam. It's a tutorial book that will be called Zen of ZBrush. Each of us will walk you through our technique and work-flow for creating characters in ZBrush.

I will be walking you through how I created this character. It's a scouting drone I just named Drone-04. Some of you may have previewed this model before this, as I posted images in my sketchbook. I wanted to create a mech that had visual characteristics similar to the Eva Mechs of Evangelion.

The reason I submit stuff to my scrapbook before it's done is because I don't want to spam people's deviantWatch with half done work. I get that a lot from my subscriptions and it's tedious to weed out all the half done stuff.

I will low poly this for my portfolio but that will not be covered in the book. The book only covers the model in ZBrush. Speaking of which this model was fully made in zbrush. I started using ZSketch then went on from there.

Also, cause I know this will get asked, the total mesh is 52.7 million polygons. This may sound like overkill but the mesh can stand to be printed at wall poster size and still hold up.

Becky - The cover girl of ImagineFX, issue 49 November 2009.

So my very first appearance in an IFX mag makes the front cover, including a full on posing workshop inside the issue. This was definitely the most exciting artwork I've ever worked on in my entire art career to date. The entire process was a complete pleasure and flowed far smoother than I had anticipated.

They ended up choosing her with red hair for the cover, which I also totally love, but thought id share her with you as I originally had her from start to finish.

Anyway, I seriously recommend this issue to those who are wanting to learn more about how to approach posing. I shared as much as I could and even exceeded the limit they asked me to keep to, so Im sure there will be something for all of you guys to take and use to your advantage!

Someone alerted me to this post on an INVINCIBLE message board:

"he drawls 'em hot, no doubt... but she's a little too old looking, which seems to be a AH! issue: not great with conveying youth. hotness, yes. youth, no."

At the risk of sounding defensive, I have no idea how old this character is or isn't. I'd never seen the comic except for the the one the fan handed me for reference. The art, while fabulous, was very stylized. Atomeve is very tall, with an ample chest, so please cut me a small amount of slack when I say that I have no idea if sheis 14, 20, or 28.

Also, I don't get hired to draw many 'youthful' (does that mean 'teen'?) girls. Catwoman, Wonder Woman, pretty much all my usual subjects are in their mid-late 20s and beyond. I think the few times I've had to draw Wonder Girl or some other teen heroine, I've gotten fairly close to the right age bracket.

Again, not trying to sound defensive. I can take criticism fairly well, but I humbly & politely suggest that this time it's mildly unfounded.

I apologize if anyone is offended by my statement, especially the creators of the book. The art was amazing and I really want to read it now.
