Today marks the International Women's Day. I've been lucky to grow up in the company of powerful, independent women all of my life. Starting with my mother who's a single provider for my family, to my aunts who run their own businesses, one as a single parent and all the way to some of my closest friends and the people I look up to as Madonna. Still I'm very much aware that not everyone has that privilege and we must all remember that even today all across the world women are still being treated unequally to men, earning less money for the same job, not to mention that in many parts of the world women are deprived of basic human rights such as education, ownership of their body and the right to stand up for themselves. More then any other section of the population, women of every social economy state, regardless of race, age or sexual orientation are likely to be abused in one way or another throughout their life time. I've done this quick sketch in honour of the strong, independent and brave women who fight for others as themselves, who defy cultural, religious, racist and social stereotypes all across the world.

I dedicate this one to my mother.
Happy International Women's Day to all.

Don't know if I've mentioned it, but the mage was my absolute favorite class and origin in Dragon Age: Origins. I loved everything about their gameplay mechanics and their story.

The horrid downside of the mage class however, was they had the most hideous hats ever.

So when I started playing DA2... I didn't know whether to laugh or CRY at the sight of the DA2 mage hats. On one hand, they were truly Maker awful. But on the other... ah, that is the Dragon Age we know and love. I think I did both.

So you know what Bioware? For DA3, stop fighting the flow and just go with it, buddy. The mages of Thedas can never wear nice hats. Embrace it, embrace it in all of its gaudy glory and just go ALL THE WAY! With flamingos and spouting fountains that hymn musical elven poems and are 10 feet high!

Give us mage hats that will cow our enemies in awe and terror at their gaudy, horrific glory!! ~~(And blame Orlesians)~~

Here is the next image in the series I did last year for the Llewellyn Worldwide 2014 Astrology Calendar.

Scorpio: October 23 - November 21. Fixed Water sign. Colors: deep red, royal blue, black. Intensely emotional, curious, intuitive, passionate, possessive, powerful, determined. Frequently associated with sexuality, the desire to merge with another, and to find fulfillment/completion with a partner or “other half.” Worries about how to make their needs met by other people; wants to receive rather than give. Emotions are incredibly intense, but often hidden beneath the surface. Associated with deep waters filled with secrets, transformation, the Underworld, repressed or hidden emotions. Scorpios have the passion and determination to get whatever they want done. In my illustration, I have Scorpio standing in a pool of still water in a cenote, holding her partner possessively but revealing little of her emotions in her face. (One of their associated stones is selenite, so I put a bunch of selenite crystal formations in the cave because it’s pretty also I love that the AD let me get away with putting the Scorpio symbol on the dude’s lower back, haha.)

Sketch commission of another roleplay character, with some flat colors slapped on for good measure ^^

"A whip thin young chultan man with dark chocolate skin and lean supple form, Raas has the look of a man who is not quite a man but not a boy. Almost feline in a way, his body is all sleek corded muscle. His features are thin and chiseled with jet black eyes and waist length hair in dreadlocks. Adorning his young body are various pale scars running up his arms.

Raas' clothes are utilitarian in essence, consisting of a pair of sturdy and loose leather pants that tuck into heavy boots with buckled straps while a tight belt holds a couple pouches and coiled spiked chain at his waist. His upper body is covered in a breastplate of studded leather styled like to resemble a muscular upper body. Brass buckles run up the sides to hold in place. Over this he often wears a simple leather hood draped over his head and a pair of silver rimmed rectangular sunlenses over his eyes. Aside from the chain, his only other weapon is a large bearded battle axe that looks like it has seen better days."

So I am OBSESSED with The 10th Kingdom. For anyone who doesn't know (which I think might be everyone) the 10th Kingdom was a miniseries that was on TV in like 2000, and is made by the people who did Gulliver's Travels and The Odyssey. I actually hated everything done by that guy, but for some reason, the 10th Kingdom stuck on a major level, and I've spent the last 8 years just giving it love. The premise of the series is that a young woman (Virginia) and her father end up traveling through a magic mirror (the passage of which is located somewhere in New York's Central Park) and are transported into a dimension made up of all of our childhood fairytales. It's seven and a half hours long, and I somehow have seen this thing a million times. I don't even want to think about how I've managed that. haha.

Anyways, Wolf is Virginia's love interest, and he is actually half-wolf. <~ Hooray. haha. My hope is that even if you've never heard of this fantabulous miniseries, you'll still enjoy the art.

But seriously, go watch it.

Even though it's not the first Hunger Games deviation I've submitted, it was in fact the first Hunger Games drawing I started. The face was killing me and I kept re-drawing and then leaving it.
But today I managed to finish it, largely because I gave up on drawing the second eye and just made it closed lol! The things we do to hide our lack of know-how!!

So here she is, Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire.

Wow! Thank a lot for the DD! It's my third one and it's always such a pleasure! I'm especially glad I got a DD for that particular piece because I had been 2 years without working with oils at all, and it took me 10 months to complete it. So it feels even more rewarding!

Harry Dresden Shield Bracelet

If you love the Dresden Files books here is my imagining of what Harry's sheild bracelet looks like. It is made of Hand formed and etched bronze sheilds on distressed copper squares attached to distressed leather with very strong beading thread (Wildfire)

The symbols I decided to use are from the Dresden RPG book and the Alchemy Symbols. The Symbols are Air, Fire, Silver, Iron, Separation and the Sorcerer's stone. I can adjust this bracelet to your size or make it custom for you with your own symbols and metals.

January on 2011's awesome Mucha calendar (same as last year, different pictures) was the Evening Star! I've done this one before as well, but wanted to do it again. A3, copics and watercolour pens.

And just when I got over saying that I won't be able to finish it until I get to be at home during daytime and that I'm feeling a little feverish, bang! Three days off work. Ok, not so hot on the being sick -part, but hey. Lots of sleep. Once the fever went down and I could sleep, anyway.

This is considerably more colourful than the original, or the copy on the calendar, which is full of colour but they're all muted. Buuuuuut since Chenna's being a winter lady, showing off all the colour what we're kinda lacking here under fifteen feet of pure white snow, not to mention being one cold rhymes-with-witch, I thought I'd let her have all that colour and not tone it down. Besides, I like it this way.

Mature content: Warning: Nudity... my doctor saw more of me when I went to complain that I'm feverish and don't wanna go to work!

The title is a song by Leonard Cohen, and I lovelovelove this cover of it by Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Martha Wainwright. Utterly beautiful. [link]

Yes I know, those are D&D minis etc on the table but with only one Deadlands joke in the queue right now I decided it was not worth the trouble of making a Deadlands table setup. That and there aren't official Deadlands minis or a Marshall Screen.

The original event this is based on was the old Canyon o' Doom module which I adapted for the Savage Worlds version of Deadlands. A member of the party burned down an entire forest in Nevada and thereafter became my first player kill. Last week I got my second player kill. So far I have only killed characters the party did not like and for their own stupidity but I'm starting to like it. Mwa ha ha ha ha!

*Edit* It seems that Reaper Miniatures now has a line of Deadlands minis.
