I have no idea where this idea came from. I just started drawing. I used this piece mostly for practice on drawing textures.

Zach came to me with this idea and said the he had asked a couple photographers and they didn't want to do it. I am not sure why since I thought it was a pretty good idea and relevant to the times, so I told him to start getting it ready.

I think it came out well and is great that we were able to get the message across in a simple format and in one single image.

EDIT: Updated version. Added a little bit more sharpness to the feathers and detailed the head a little bit, but also preserved the original aspect of the image. This was done because i entered it for approval in expose 8

Hello again, no time no see. I've been busy but here's one for you awesome people. I tried to imagine the well-known Phoenix bird in my own way, so i drawn this swan-like creature with a long tail and huge wings. Phoenix is also known as the Firebird but I think it's because of the beautiful colors it has.. and actually not because its made of fire.

So.. between reality and fantasy, i guess this is the way Phoenix looks like.

Aniways.. it took long hours.. sketch was drawn on A4 paper then painted over in Photoshop CS2.

In the late 19th century Germany, a small faction of gnome rebels formed a revolution against their oppressive gnome dictatorship in order to free themselves from horrendous and life-threatening conditions of forced labor in mines.

After years of civil war and a near-extinction of their race, the triumphant faction lived the rest of their lives in peace and simplicity, tending gardens and going about their business in yards of humans throughout the world. Their bravery will not be forgotten.

This is probably what their recruitment posters would've looked like; except probably in Gnomish...y'know, sometimes even I think I have too much time on my hands...

Living with Leviathan

Leviathan, a colossal gas giant planet named after a massive mythical sea-beast due to it's Jupiter-esque size and mostly blue colouring with turbulent storms reminiscent of of waves and whirlpools in a troubled sea; Is seen here with four of its moons which are oh-so conveniently visible within the frame Of course, such a large planet is bound to have a dozen more moons elsewhere, but they would be out of view, or on the other side of the planet, which is a distance too far to be able to see the little moons, the ones here would all be in front of the main planet. It is well-lit by unusually bright surroundings, a main blue star that they orbit around is the main light source, but a close range nebula and it's many stars still fill in the background with an eerie blue light.

OK, I did this almost as an apology for not making any space-scenery in ages I've been wrapped in contest entries over the past couple of months and all my art-time was spent on those, none of which have anything to do with space. But now I can go free-range again and just draw what I want

Technical Details:
The Gas-gaint planet (for those who don't know, is the massive one with the striped cloud formations) was a must-have, seeing how so few include them in space-art, it's texture alone took me around 4 hours or so, before finally being applied to a 3D sphere and rendered. It took ages since I didn't want to simply manipulate a picture of Jupiter and I prefer making Gas giants in 3D rather than Photoshop because you have the option of "tilting" it to get a more natural result and make one of the polar regions visible. Nebula was fractal-based but also had a lot of manual brushing too, that was probably the most time-consuming part. Enjoy!

Have you ever heard form Vangelis, this wonderful music? 1492, Christophe Colomb? One day I was listening to this track, and this image was in my mind (ship addict Katikut!)
And this week, in France, there was the movie on TV, I've never seen it. It was a destiny sign! I'm sure! So I've drawn it. You can see The Pinta on the left, the Niña on the right and The Santa-Maria in the center. It's bad for the water, it looks too realistic, but it's not a photo! I used some waves brushes.
