Defiance is actually very picturesque, and these days it's the closest thing to wine country eastern Missouri has. It's still host to a lot of corn, though...and bugs. So many bugs.

Crystals Progress Tutorial

I've been asked multiple times if I could make a tutorial... So I tried to make one. It's mostly a progression of the way I draw crystals but I hope you can find it useful in some way. Sorry for not giving more detailed information than "add this and add that", English is not my first language and I have some difficulties explaining with it. But anyway, I still hope it helps! c:

I wouldn't actually wish a fate like Mordecai and Viktor on any dog - not even a yappy-type dog. The derpy looking, bug-eyed thing on the yellow-orange background is a portrait of my cat, Ivy (from whence came the character). Also, the Savoys ate the Easter Bunny. Sorry, everyone.

Just some holiday greetings...in the form of an asinine comic (my preferred mode of communication).

"Happy Holidays" doesn't seem to have emerged as a common greeting until the 1940's. It's just a coincidence that's the sound Viktor's fist makes when it collides with a face. Also, "Chag Sameach" has a multitude of alternate phoneticized spellings, but I went with what seemed most common.

Some of the characters appear more than once in this image. Hopefully most of them are recognizable to those who keep up with the comic.

(I know this may not exactly reflect what others think the characters would look like, and that's fine. I prefer them to be rather open to interpretation - these just happen to be my interpretations.)

Another awfully stupid installment of Chit Chat Time. I'm sorry, internet. (Contains mild language).

A "bunny hug", according to the classic Savoy Cocktail Book, was a drink named after the notorious, turn of the century dance. It's one part gin, one part whiskey, and one part absinthe.

To be fair, no one ever actually asked about embarrassing rashes. And thanks, for making Mordecai look way more sexy than he deserves here.

I think I have to recut the heart maybe...and it was kind of difficult to get an even distribution of the bokeh, but I intended to keep it more or less on the top of the picture where the bulb is, so that's fine
50mm f/1.8 lens. self timer.
I love the focus I achieved in this picture!

Cutting and colorbalancing in Photoshop. I also put a purple layer on it (about 10% opacity) to make the dark/bright difference in the background a little less harsh (yeah I know there shouldn't be one at all, it's the shadow of my desk )

Noise reducing due to high iso. period.}

Lackadaisy Cacophony

The radio programming is a rather thinly veiled allusion to Hary Reser's Clicquot Club Eskimos, who graced the very early NBC radio of the 1920's and 30's.

The radio itself is a bit of an anachronism - I don't think the first all-in-one tabletop radio (tubes and speaker) was marketed until about 1930 by Philco. Prior to that, tabletops generally consisted of a coffin-style box and a separate speaker. I always found the classic cathedral style radios appealing, however, and I wanted to draw one. My conscience may compel me to replace it with something a little more accurate when it comes time to print a Volume 2 book, though.

In reading about college life for American women in the 1920's, it seemed surprisingly progressive in some ways yet atrociously gendered in others. Enrollment was much higher than in any previous decade, but courses of study were still largely restricted to nursing, teaching and "euthenics" (home economics). Like many modern-day pillow forts, much of the demesne of the arts and sciences still had a "no girls" policy.

Reference for the building was St. Louis University's DuBourg Hall.

Avatar fanart of the non-blue-cat-people kind.

This one's all inked on computer. I went with thinner lines than I usually do for lineart, which seems to make it look more like the original cartoon.

Not sure I've quite got the Avatar style working for me yet. Momo was particularly hard to draw for some reason. I'll have to upload a detail shot with Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko, as you can't really see their expressions in this 1/4 scale picture.

Abrahel is a demon, whose characteristics are associate with nocturnal spirits denominated succubus. The name began to acquire certain popularity when the demonologist Nicholas described it to Remy in its Demonolatria (1581). It always takes the form from a high woman and delicate forms, but it cannot completely hide his demonic nature, since if she approaches closer enough of him, will notice that an awful and nauseous stench shoot of his skin.

In the legend of the shepherd, Abrahel conquered to a shepherd called Pierrot in 1581 in a village to borders of the Mosela. Abrahel was delivered to the shepherd in exchange for the life of the son of this one, that killed him with a poisoned apple. When occurring Pierrot account of its complicity in the subject was hopeless. Abrahel appeared promising the resurrection to him again of the dead if he were adored like God. Thus Pierrot did and adored to Abrahel and so his son returned but with one semblance dismal. To the year the demon left the body of the boy who thundered against key shooting a great stench. He was buried of hidden form.

Rocky - the cat the Lackadaisy character originated from - done as a Christmas gift for my mother, who was probably even more affected by his loss than I was. She was also the one who had to deal with all of the related medical unpleasantness, spree of vet visits and attempted surgeries. I owe her my thanks for the care she gave him.
...and hopefully she won't stumble upon this here before the holiday.

Four pages.

Photomatons - documenting jackassery since 1926. Apparently, they didn't have curtains on them back then, and attendants would stand by and suggest poses for the subjects.

I should probably be fined for gratuitous use of photo booth, but I'll attempt to excuse myself on the basis that photographs are a running theme. Something about the fact that picture-taking was becoming a much less formal affair in the 1920s delights me. With the popularization of things like the photo booth and Brownie camera, private photography was no longer relegated to dour-faced portraiture and memento mori (one sort easily being confused for the other at a glance). Life seems suddenly more acutely present in picture-relics of that era.

I must have Geisha fever! lol
Sketched and coloured this today.

I know its not an accurate rep of a geisha, neither was my last pic. Its just my interpretation of a geisha... this time in my Vector love style; my "Lashes style" if you will.

Lackadaisy Whatnot

The uppermost images are samplings of new art I'm preparing for an overhaul of the existing character page on the Lackadaisy web site.

There are two Mitzi cards because one of them is a throw-away. After painting the first, I decided I wanted something with a more art nouveau look for her instead. The string of images in the middle is just an example of my general approach to painting these pieces.

The rest is rough pencil art for upcoming comic pages and a little "photograph" originally done for the forum users.

Lady Bug ~ Scorpion Schyte

She was just the ordinary girl, she has a lover whom she love so much. One day, their country had a war and her boyfriend had to go. Her country won the war, but she's so sad 'cause her love never came back.

In her sadness and craziness, when all the soldiers have a party to celebrate their victory, she put poison in the drinks 'cause she thinks that her boyfriend died because of them so she wants to make the other people mourn like her. And after that she commits suicide, and hopes she will be together again with her love in the next life.

When she's reborn, she's so shocked 'cause she became a scorpion that's so bad and ugly because of her sins. She feels ashamed to meet her love and lives hiding on the sand and stone. Everyday she mourns, 'cause although she really misses him, she doesn't want to show her ugliness. But she didn't know that her love has already become her scythe, he accepts her as she is, loves her, and always protects her from behind.
