This work was created by first hand rolling many, many little strips of paper into swirls, shaping them and then placing them together in a mosaic fashion. This piece measures 8x10" and took approximately 40 hours to create from start to finish.

First off, sorry to all of my groups, each of my watchers, and everyone I follow. I have been extremely busy in other areas of my life so I have not been able to keep up on DA. Hopefully I will have more time in the future.

However, here is some new work!

An epic spot I found on the Grand Canyon. The road was about gone so I imagine it's been years since anyone has visited. However, to break the peace, helicopters provided reminders of man every 15 minutes. I made it a point to pretend to go to the bathroom for every flight.

I shot the foreground 20 min prior to the sky because it was too windy to do a ~4 min exposure at f9 when the Milky Way was out.

Also, the sky is blue rather than black because this was literally the first moment that the Milky Way was visible. So a hint of the setting sun remained to color the dust in the air.

This one if for ~mutequacky and ~AlienDragonLover.

Started as a render test of the mesh, which was a test of the object output generator I added to this project. This object contains 12.3 million (quad) polygons.

Overall construct is a quaternion Julia fractal (again ) and then a level 3 Menger sponge (probably easier to see in the full image).

Rendering was done with my own software render. Both the ground and fractal have Fresnel effect and some subsurface scattering, the ground also contains a light emitting substance. The sun is near the horizon and a bit towards to the camera to cast some light along the sides of the object.

Something I've been slaving over the past few days. All this Double Fine news got me replaying all 5 Monkey Island games again which spurned this thing. Probably the most ambitious thing I've ever painted in a looooong time. I'll probably go back and try and pull out some of the ghosts behind LeChuck some more since they got a bit lost when I started attacking it with colour effects and textures.

There's no need to adjust your monitor settings, this was was deliberately made to have really intense colours, even by my standards

And so it should, to bring in the New year each year I've been on this site I have always let loose and done a colourful space scene as my own little way of commemorating it The scene itself didn't need to be anything too original, I kinda wanted a more "typical" looking situation, but with the twist being in the colours. I wanted to go for something really fluro-looking and sort of Summery too (that was part of my inspiration after all ) When I allow myself to use such intense colours there became so many possibilities because realism went out the door either way. But my original scheme seemed best, so I stuck with that Still not sure about this one so it *might* be prone to later editing.

Well, Happy 2012!, and don't buy into the end of the world crap

Second attempt to visualize upcoming movie Prometheus. This time some ending scene when the space jockey race arrived to earth. Their ship is ancient and should look very different and superior to human vessels. My goal was to make a ship similar to the derelict in the first alien movie, just much bigger and different configuration.
Hope you like it and we can now just wait till next summer when the movie will be released.
All done in Photoshop and wacom intuos as usual.

There are two versions of this picture. if you got a older one please delete it, this one is better.

Back on my Summer Holidays (December 2010) I went to New Zealand with my Mum, Dad and sister to visit my Grandmother, Auntie and Uncle.

This was taken on this holiday, on Mt Maunganui.
Its basically just a succulent close up, with some nice dew on it. That day was so foggy, at one point, when we were on the top of the mountain, we looked out towards the city, and the only thing we could see was white. Very surreal.

OK...I can't wait anymore to upload this...I'm too excited.

This is like the 4^th version of this damn emote....First version was blue, the second version had different eyes, the third was a combo of both, and I totally changed it again for this forth version. That is not an easy thing to do when it has over 200 frames.
Tedious as hell.

I used this image as the inspiration for this. I wanted to change it around. I used similar hand motions and mouth motions...but added about 150 frames or so. So basically, I repixeled some of the mouth movements and hand motions...then redid it like 4 times.

This is my most extensive, elaborate, and massive emote yet. I think it will be quite useful for journals, the forums (especially the politics or complaints forums), the shoutbox, and other places where one would find a good amount of rants.

Specifications:
--Frames: 223 -yes, two hundred twenty three...that is correct.
--32 px wide x 20 px high
--17 colors
--26.76 seconds
--About 5-6 hours of tedious labor in the 4 versions

ETA: Okay, I had more to say about this one but I uploaded it in somewhat of a hurry.

So, as most of you have no doubt noticed, it's meant to be a reference/tribute to Hokusai's "Great Wave off Kanagawa." I'm not a big fan of retreading art, so why do this?

I think The Great Wave lends itself to a "fractalization" very easily... deceptively easy, almost. Curly wave shapes might not be as common as fractal flowers but they are far from new to the medium. But the wave really isn't the point here.

I mean, there is something to be said for how fractal-esque Hokusai's original wave is. Look at all those grasping, curving fingers of foam at the top of it. Aren't they each, in their way, a little wave? That part of the image has always struck me. I think, in humans, a small bit of fear over the ocean reaching out and grabbing you off the beach is just primal. Those cruel claws at the end of Hokusai's wave communicated that to me before I could even articulate how they were making me feel. And that sort of thing translates into fractals well.

But let's take another look at The Great Wave, shall we? What is that in the background? If you are just quickly glancing, it can look like another wave, not quite broken yet but developing a distinct crest. After all, the base is blue like the sea, the top is white like the foam, and the gently curving sides fit in well with the flow of the main wave.

But it's actually Mount Fuji. And Hokusai's iconic print is just the first of a series entitled 36 Views of Mount Fuji. Hokusai is most commonly known for his wave, but he was obsessed with the mountain. He drew it many times, each one a slightly different permutation... or iteration, if you will.

Do you think, if Hokusai knew about fractals, he would have dreamed of infinite fractal Mount Fujis? Do androids... nevermind. I'm sure you get what I'm driving at by now. I think that even though Hokusai's wave may look more fractalline, to him, the real source of infinite complexity was the Mountain. Not in a mathematical way, obviously. But to him it was what fractals are to me: something you can always find another viewpoint of.

So what does it mean here that my Mount Fujis are still relegated to the background, that they can, like Hokusai's Fuji, be mistaken for more waves? Maybe mistaken is the wrong word. Maybe they can be both waves and Fujis. When I first saw these shapes (in greyscale, and with a different crop) the sierpinskis reminded me of clouds more than anything else. Maybe I wanted to make a statement about importance to the artist being divorced from importance to the viewer. Or maybe I wanted my image to be more readily recognizable as a Hokusai imitation. I'm not being cheeky here; I'm really not sure. Don't expect me to be able to know everything about my own art.
