It starts off with Luke and Leia flying to a diplomatic mission on one planet only to be forced into a crash-landing on another. Luke was in his X-Wing, and Leia was piloting a 2-seater Y-Wing with Threepio. I was trying to go for that Sunday newspaper strip feel. This was the first STAR WARS piece I'd drawn since the mid-90s; I was pretty nervous and I think it shows a little. Still, it's a fun piece.<br /><br />When a friend asked what the contraband in hand actually WAS, we came to the conclusion that it must be Wookiee Chow; Chewbacca appears to be gnawing on the crate.<br /><br />***Update***<br />After Googling "companion cubes', I now know what everyone is asking. I love Art Nouveau, I love the poster art of Alphonse Mucha, and my DNA has "Star Wars" written on it.<br /><br />One of the MAIN reasons I did this, however, was timing.  C4 was the big 30th anniversary convention for SW, and I guessed that a lotof the other invited artists would do Episode 4 prints, especially the very popular "Big Head Montage".  I wanted to steer as far clear of that as possible, then.<br /><br />I also came home with leftover Han Solo prints I did for C3 the year before, and I learned my lesson.  I promised myself: "If this happens again, I&#039;m gonna do chicks or stormtroopers".  Slave Leia is one of the major signposts of the cultural landscape that is the affect of Star Wars on popular culture, so..... there you go.<br /><br />This is one of the few pieces of mine that I have framed and hanging in my home. I really enjoyed doing this, which is rare for me.  I do loves me my STAR WARS, mm-boy.<br /><br />I cannot believe Lucasfilm let me show a dead Jedi Knight with a severed limb.<br /><br />Funny story: I just threw this gal in because I needed a dead Jedi, so I used a design that I created for a Wizards of the Coast SW role-playing back in 2000.  I figured that since i brought her into the world, I could take her out.<br /><br />Well!  Turns out you can&#039;t make a move in the SW without it being &#039;in continuity&#039; so they simply HAD to write her into the comic, and give her death a spotlight scene, which was cool.<br /><br />Only, one thing baffled me.  In the comic, Vader stabs her through the heart with his lightsaber, THEN cuts her hand off.
