Nyx, Greek Goddess of Night

(According to Wikipedia): In Greek mythology, Nyx was the primordial goddess of the night. A shadowy figure, Nyx stood at or near the beginning of creation, and was the mother of personified gods such as Hypnos (sleep) and Thánatos (death). Her appearances in mythology are sparse, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power and beauty.

Nyx glides across the land, bringing the night with her.

A Valkyrie gathers the fallen souls of warriors on Midgard, readying them for their journey to Valhalla to become Einherjar.

Started this piece during the Magic Cruise ([link] ), had an absolute blast. Painting on a laptop on a boat in the middle of the Pacific surrounded by friends and Magic the Gathering fanatics is too much fun.

Aphrodite, for Troll Lord Games' Castles & Crusades: Of Gods & Monsters by Jim Ward.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love and sex, borne from the sea. Roses are a symbol of her. The word "aphrodisiac" comes from her name.

I have 9 more gods to do. All are black and white, but I think I may come back and color them in. I haven't worked in B&W for ages All of them have to be this size too, very narrow.

Apollo is the god of the sun, archery, medicine, and other things as well. His twin sister is Artemis, the great huntress. Apollo is usually seen with his lyre, but I chose the bow because I can't resist painting a recurve classic bow

Poseidon is the god of the sea, depicted with his signature trident and as a merman.

This was definitely the most time-consuming. I'm a tad burned out right now, head spinning... tomorrow hopefully I can start/finish Hermes, which is highly unlikely...

Hermes is the messenger of the gods and is known for his staff, the Caduceus. He is the patron god of travelers & flight. His Roman counterpart is Mercury.

This was the most fun I've had with these images so far.

Athena is the goddess of war and battle. She is also the goddess of wisdom. She is usually seen with a spear and the shield given to her by Zeus, with the head of Medusa at its center (I didn't paint it since you can't see it with this pose, ahahahahhaa!).
