This version has nothing more than jaw control and eyelids. No brow movement, no lips, nothing else, and yet she can already give that wistful stare off into the distance, like she's thinking of all the wonderful expressions she'll make once she can move the rest of her face. And lest we forget, she's moving her hair! Because now her hair moves! I'm so excited!!! I get this way at least once a week!!! Because we're constantly moving forward!!! Squeeee!!!

Thanks again to Richard Terry Clark for his excellent character modeling, And many thanks to Scott Englert for the great pains he's taking to rig Chell so beautifully! (Oh, and thanks Jiayu Liu and Matthew Lee for the modeling and rigging, respectively, of the Dual Portal Device!)

This thing is getting bigger than I ever could have imagined, let alone predicted. I've been contacted by people volunteering to help with lighting, sound, animation, even voice acting! I'm getting email back-pats from fellow animators and old classmates. I think I've practically doubled my dA following in the past few days, there are tens of thousands of people weighing in on it without knowing much at all what to expect it to be, and as much as this level of scrutiny should scare me, I find that it's really just... driving me! I find myself demanding more from myself, more from this story, a desire to tell it as well as I can, and I hope that the people offering their time and energy can find it in themselves to dig seep, and that together we can make this thing as good as people seem to want it to be! ]]> Friday: Reddit [link]

My first official art trade! I have a few lined up to do this week, since I'm off, and I'm starting with this one of Ska4Life's OC's. She asked me to "do a sexy version", and since she's seen what "sexy version" means to me, I hope this will meet with her approval! I'd like to do colors, but right now I want to make sure the drawings all get done first.

This is the first drawing I've done in several months (thanks, work!), and I thought now's as good a time as any to try digital. I've been doing my short film's storyboard digitally, but those are just little more than stick figures. All the same, it's let me get a bit more accustomed to drawing in Photoshop, and I figure it's a skill I should try to develop. This could be better, that's for sure, but I'm not going to let the many many many flaws deter me! ]]>

I spend sooo much time doing CG stuff with absolutely NO drawing. I start to draw again, and then we go into 80-hour weeks for three months, and bye-bye drawing! We go back to normal human hours, and what do I do? I start working on a CG animated short!

Pshhh... apparently, I don't *actually* want to draw ever again! ]]>

All right! I opened the script this morning to see what I'd be drawing today, got the layout thumbnailed, did the quarter-scale done, then the finished pencils. And soon I might be done with the inks! So if nothing else, my time working on these pages has definitely made me faster!

Another ten-panel page. I don't know if I should be upset with myself for doing so many panels on a single page. But I feel like I've accommodated the dialog, defined the action and helped to tell the story, so I guess I won't worry so much about the frame count *always* being five to seven. ]]> 's upcoming graphic novel, "Turra: Gun Angel".

All the Dirty Little Tees designs were PG-13, with hair or cloth or whatever barely hiding the naughty bits. In this one, the logo was across her chest, and the ".com" covered the southern region. I've deliberately kept the logos out of these posts, so I had to do up some last minute nipples for her here. She kind of has her legs crossed, so I think the rest is good to go without adding new lines there.

Like the others, pen and ink on bristol, but after that it all goes digital. I traced the line art in Illustrator, where I also added the colors.

I think when I finish Turra and move on to pinup art, I want to try to recapture the blend of sexy and cute, but I really want to achieve better renders. I've got sooo much to learn! ]]>

Well the inks came out better than my somewhat vague pencils had allowed me to hope. So I'm glad for that!

Managed to fix - I think - the troubled storytelling at the top of the page. I did away with the first panel's exterior image (which I never cared for) and replaced it with another panel of Cat further away. This helps establish the setting better over the course of those four panels. Now we can see that he's walking toward us, we can tell that he's still getting dressed and that he's carrying a coffee mug, and the morning light through the windows is clear right from the start.

So the setting and the action both read better now, and maybe Martheus won't be forced to include a "The Next Morning" bubble in order to spoon-feed the reader what I failed to indicate on the page.

I am not happy with the building hiding behind the panels. I didn't plan it properly, and it just doesn't work for me. I think I'll just treat the roof as the bottom frame of the first panel, and black out the remainder from there on down.

Other than that, I'm fairly OK with how this page came out! Sure, I see plenty of issues, but it's pretty solid, and it went more quickly and smoothly than previous pages. I'm definitely getting more confident... well, to be more accurate, I'm becoming less afraid. Which is key, because that finally frees me up to try new things, so I can really learn.

I'd do the drawing traditionally, pencil and ink on paper, then painstakingly trace the individual lines in Illustrator, where I'd also add the color. This way the color screens for printing the shirts were crisp and sharp. Good product, horrible businessman. Oh well! ]]>

I played with shadows for a change on this page, with mixed success. I think I'll keep trying it in the next page as well, hopefully with greater effect. Orcus makes an appearance, and I want him to look good. Thanks to Martheus for allowing me to treat this chapter of his book like a freaking laboratory. Second, and oh so much more important, reference!!! Got a nice new webcam that does what my old one couldn't: turn on and take pictures! Also, I'm finding tons of inspiration all over dA. Tutorials, life models, some beautiful page layouts, and whatnot. I'll need to keep running full speed if I'm going to finish the next 16 pages for April, and things are lookin' up!
