The book has ten, hand sewn signatures which total out to about forty pages in total (I really wanted quite a few more pages than that, but with this just being a first attempt I thought that I'd be sensible - in my next book project though, I'm aiming more for 400+ pages). The front and back of the book are both hand carved, Tiger Martle - a beautiful wood, but quite dangerous to work (the dust is rather poisonous) and the spine is a very simple strip of leather, bonding the signatures, pages &amp; front and back together. I'm really happy with the result and its already sold, so it's been a good result all round! In fact, the wood is more interesting than the piece itself! The Yew in this side table was actually from one of the original yew trees in the grounds of Lincoln Cathedral, UK. It was cut down in 2004 as the trees had become dangerous &amp; were due to be replaced with younger stock. Despite its rather 'Normal' appearance, the table was still fun to produce - it was a Christmas present for my partner parents. The one area of the table is of interest is the top, made out of a single piece of 3/4" stock with one large void and several much smaller voids. I chose to actually keep the voids but inlay plexi-glass into the voids to give the top a 'geographical' appearance, with the glassy areas representing water and the curly grain representing landforms. Its about 60% complete so far as the bulk of the root carvings have been completed. Unlike my other 'Root' boxes not only are the roots intertwined (which sadly the picture doesn't do it any justice) but instead of having 100-150 leaves, I'm aiming for this box to have between 300-400 leaves. It was approximately 2' long, and was constructed out of Tulip wood (Poplar) for the stem(as Poplar has such a beautiful, Natural green colour to it), Purple Heart for the petal's and Bud, and Wenge for the Stamen (or, at least I think that's what they're called - The bit's that the pollen is on?). I always try to avoid colouring/Dying timber. I tried to signify this in several ways. Looking back is always hard because I've come such a long way and its impossible to not be SUPER-Critial!
