On the DVD, Tim Burton said he was inspired by cartoons like The Grinch, which he enjoyed while growing up. But his idea was to make someone the opposite of the title character, so Jack Skellington loves Christmas while the Grinch hates it. I always loved the idea of Grinch and Jack crossing paths.

The kiss was a challenge, considering Jack technically doesn't have lips. I know it's traditional for the eyes to be closed, but I couldn't bring myself to give Jack eyelids. I know he has them in the movie, but I just couldn't draw them! Besides, Jack doesn't have eyelids at D*sneyland.
