Its been quite a while since I have submitted anything, so I figured I would upload a few pictures of one of my latest projects. These are a pair of custom designed, hand painted Converse Chuck Taylors I did for a friend of mine. I think they turned out pretty neat! They started as pure black Chucks. Acrylic on canvas. And yes, I am open to commissions!

Horse Hair Raku

Behold my very first horsehair raku pot.

This little guy was coil built and stands about 6 inches off the ground.

For those of you that don't know about the process, I shall describe it a bit:

Raku is fired differently than most ceramics. It is fired outdoors in a little kiln. after about 45 minutes at 1700 degrees, the raku pieces are taken out of the kiln, and for this type, are set aside. The artist then takes strands of horse tail and lays it across the pot. When the hair burns, it leaves these wonderful little lines across the pot.

Hey eige, arent you a vegetarian/vegan? Why would you use horse hair? The answer is yes, i am, however, this horse hair was collected very humanly and actually shares a little bit of sentiment.

Horses need their tales for a multitude of reasons, so even cutting off the hair would be inhumane. My drawing & composition teacher (who I am relatively close to), Matt Vincent, had a wife that used to raise horses. One day, one of his horses caught his tail in something in her stall, and pulled out some hair, a relatively natural occurence. Matt's wife loved her horses, and donated strands of hair whenever she would run across them. In 2007, Matt's wife got into a car accident and became paralyzed, thus needing to sell her horses to a caring home. For us art students, it is almost sacred to be able to use Matt's wife's horse hair.

Here is a 24x36 painting I did back in December. The photo doesn't show the details very well, but there are 3 or 4 shades of red, as well as blacks.

This is the first painting that I did just to create. Most of the time, i put incredibly too much thought into my work, and dont focus on letting my emotions flow. I had an incredibly good time with this piece. I just let the paintbrush take me away.

I actually really like abstract paintings, like this one. My personal taste leans more towards this sort of work rather than realism others.

Well, as many of you know, I live in the Chicago area. I woke about 2.5 feet of snow EVERYWHERE.... but snow drifts 4-6 feet tall all over the place. including in front of the door, on top of my car, and all over.

this blizzard has been the worst we've seen since '76 - way before my time.

This hairclip is a commission done for the awesome ~FunsizeLovesDonuts for her homecoming.

She wanted something tealish blueish greenish, and mentioned her jewelry included some silver. - xD The photos dosnt even begin to show the color - but it fades from bright green down to a blueish green on the tips of the petals.

How many of us get to look great for homecoming AND send an environmental message at the same time!?

The statement I am attempting to make clear is that if we continue to carelessly trash our earth, someday these might be the only flowers we have left. my work can be a reminder that if we fail to life a sustainable life, we are going to have to clean up the consequences!

Alrighty guys - this was a very small commission i got to do for a Coke-a-cola collector. This is a small-sized tiger lily made entirely from soda cans. the couple i did this for collects anything and everything "coke" - they were amazed with my work! they found my work at my art-booth "Recycled Rarities"

in this case, i used Coke cans, along with a few others. though you cant see it in this picture, this flower is housed in a small coke glass - and filled with glass shards.

funny story about how i got the "recycled" glass - i found it in a hospital parking lot. someone had a bad experience with their doctor and bashed out his windshield. Im going to leave the hospital name and the doctors name anonymous, lol.

Vinyl Record Bowls

EDIT!: just a tip - records can take anywhere from 1-4 minutes to achieve flexibility!

Here you go guys! This is a pretty awesome way to recycle all those records collecting dust. These bowls are really easy to make - and complete any music lover's decor.

I dont think they are microwave/dishwasher safe, for obvious reasons, but they are very hand washable. They are pretty darn resilient to damage.

as mentioned in the tutorial, if you dont have any records in particular you are willing to part with, these can be found at garage sales and thrift shops usually for less than a dollar.

this is my first tutorial - i hope you all enjoy!!

anyways. the rockstar can is flat/matte black, while the black flower is glossy. i like it.

The idea behind my artwork is a little deeper than some are willing to look. My work is ultimately a critique on the way that we, as a culture and society, interact with our planet. my work is make from littered cans, thus driving my meaning home. Alright guys, i havent uploaded in a few days - ive been really busy. i should have a few new pieces up soon. in the mean time...

a few people asked me how big my roses are, so i thought i would upload a photo that kinda showed the size while we wait for a brand new deviation. mind you, this rose was a little shorter than usual, as i didnt have all that much green to work with.

this was made from orange crush, mountain dew, and vault.

**sigh** please ignore the band aid on my thumb. i burnt myself pretty badly while putting this rose together. >.<

I will probably move this to scraps in a few days - i dont mean to spam you guys with different photos of the same piece! >.<
