Following my new year's resolutions to update more often, here I am.

Well OK, it's cheating, since this piece has been done in 2010 for Digital Artist mag, issue 12 (I think). You can see the "making of" process there.

Done in Photoshop in loads and loads of hours. I've used an airbrush quite extensively for detailing, which was a new thing for me.

Used some refs for the flowers and gold elements, as well as posed in the mirror for quite a bit until I got the pose right. That's about it ]]>

I intended this piece to be meaningful on many levels. Aside from the personal content I tried to hide behind the symbols, the looser painting technique embodies a style I always aspired to, yet never managed to fully employ in any painting. Lastly, I hope the piece brought to you thoughts of Salvador Dali… Temptation of Saint Anthony hangs above my desk and is always a great inspiration in times of need.

Lightning (in the frame and background)- something destructive, rapid, uncontrollable
The hairstyle - another reference to fire
The make-up - a reference to battle marks (you know, face painting etc)
The feathers - (I tried to make them look "sharp" rather than soft and fluffy); to me, in this form they bare a resemblance to tribes -> Wrath seen as something wild and primal.
The whip she is holidng - a symbol of power
The shattered earth - the influence Wrath has on the world

The date of the submission is symbolic as well - it has been exactly 2 years since I have first started the series.

- I am aware that the style and the technique is much simpler than what I have displayed in my recent works, but I had to keep the style consistant throughout the series. So yes, I know I haven't painted every wrinkle or skin pore etc.

Well, that's an outcome of a non stop few day work. I have decided, that I need to work a LOT on the anatomy and skin shading of my characters, and so I tried, in this one, to work the hardest I can on it.
I have done a lot of studies (mainly consisting of looking at myself in a mirror ), tries etc before even beginning to work on this.

I cannot, unfortunately, publish a full WIP of the work, as it's going to be published soon, but I am still sharing some sketches and closeups and a tiny tutorial

GLUTTONY is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.


Why didn't I draw anything disgusting? Well, I wanted to prove myself I can keep to the original "idea" of a glutton, WHILE making the character aesthetic, pretty and (in her way) attractive. I wanted to prove the modern "pretty=thin to the bone" standard wrong.

Some symbolic explanations:
Abundance of textiles - I treat this sin not only as eating and drinking, but consuming in it's wider meaning, such as buying and gathering useless things etc
Grapes - "luxury" goods, connected with lavish parties (in ancient times) etc

This is the fifth from the Seven Deadly Sins series.

Symbolism:

- She is sitting on a swing and blowing bubbles: it's a symbol of wasting your time on insignificant things; idleness

- She is placed above the ground, in the sky: symbol of being separated from Earth and mundane htings (like work etc)

- Feathers: to me they symbolize something sleepy and lazy

- Color: to me light blue is also a color of sleepiness and idleness

Done in Painter in approx. 60 hours.

The theme:
As you can see, from my Lust sketch I have only kept the pose, but totally changed the face.
I think that this one fits the topic better.

"Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or
situation"

Personally I think envy means much more than just a wish to have something
someone else has. To me, it means also ACTING AGAINST that person,
"revenging" in a way, trying to take the "object of our desire" away from
them, or backstabbing them in some way etc.
That is why myself I consider envy the "heaviest" sin of all seven.

symbolism:
- snake - as I mentioned, envy, to me, is connected with cunning and doing
something behind one's back

- poison ivy leaf in the frame (and the column)- maybe just a word play, but
I always connected ivy with destruction of some sort... Growing using a

"Vanity is an excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of God. It has been called the sin from which all others arise."


symbolism?
It's all pretty obvious but I will explain some stuff which inspired me, to sound cool, mind you.

- As you can read up, vanity is linked with the color violet, so here you go the color theme.
- Peacocks remind me of vanity as well, therefore I have used a peacock feather as an inspiration for the "frame".
- You can see the background being desertish (plus the dead tree)... Vain people usually never see any beauty in the world, but only in themselves... That is why everything around them, sooner or later, dies - and that is what I have tried to depicture.

lady's props based on my (pencil) sketch based on a couple o' refs, refs for textures.
you can see some art nouveau inspirations in the frame - my tribute to A. Mucha, as he is my idol

I didn't want to disappear from DA completely, and as I have no time for digital pics - Uni hours (besides the fact I need to make notes) are still free!

After I am done with the illustration job, I will start my freetime drawing project called Seven Deadly Sins, and this is a character sketch for Lust. I already changed my idea on how Lust should look like, but I decided to share it with you anyway.

Eventually I will just make her some sort of a Succubus.
It will stay on my main page until I submit something digital at last(sick of staring at Xull Rae as a recent dev), then I will probably move it to the Scraps section, well whatever.

Techy info:
Couple of references used (from mags I borrowed); lots of pencils, white, gray, black, red crayon used, also 2 black markers.

Without sleep or rest she has been searching for him throughout day and night.
Soon, as the months passed by, out of loneliness and obsession, the girl began to lose her mind. She is now speaking with trees and flowers, hearing her lover's voice in the nightingale's song, seeing his shape in blades of grass.
Her once great love turned into hatred, as in her madness, she has blamed the boy for the whole misery she was going through. She is now therefore hunting him, seeking revenge for her disastrous fate.

It took me a long long time to finish, but at the end I am very proud of it. You will also be able to buy a printout of it soon...

Technical info: ~50hrs for the drawing process, ~3hours for the poem&story, lots of refs fo bg, lots of problems with textures

This work was done for Epilogue's "Season of Renewal" contest.
I've spent around 25 hours on this. Used tutorials for patterns, inspirations, refs for pose, dead body, studies of G.Burns, as well as the dress pattern from one of my older works... As the work was smaller, you might see some pixelation in a few parts of it, which I'm really sorry about.
Poem written in around 2-3 hours It's not too long but the contest rules forbid writing too long descriptions for pictures, hence the 2 "paragraphs".


This artwork, along with Samael, will be available as a printout, if I will someday miraculously get the prints account

Introduction:
Samael and Eleanzel, both sons of the Night Spirit, were loving brothers, fully comitted to each other as children.
Samael had a lover, a wind goddess Echo, whom he had a son with. Led by envy and secret desire towards his brother's love, Eleanzel has led Samael's suspicions, as the child was not his.
Samael full of faith, believing in his brother, filled with anger has killed his son and his beloved. Soon after has he discovered his lies.
Led by anger and bitterness he lost his sanity, and to kill his own pain, as a revenge to all the men kind, he is now killing all born children, letting everyone suffer as he once did.

When the lifeless night forms a black winged wave
And scars my tainted heart with a bleeding mark,
Mountain's sharpened beaks dig my ethereal grave
And I'm spreading my arms, I become it's slave,
I welcome the dark

Frozen phantoms awake from the blazing skies
Piercing their claws through my moldered heart
I'm trying to see them with my riven eyes
But I creep into darkness, where your nations rise
Tearing me apart

Scream's howling neck blinds my vicious brain
I'm a trapped locust with a broken wing
I wield my sceptre of everlasting pain
I sit on a throne marked with lethal stain
As a crownless king

And when I finally spread my anger's disease
Frozen orbits' ashes will perish destroyed
I already feel the end's deadly breeze
And dreaming of the heavenly decease
I'll cry into the void
