What, you want an explanation for this? Who or what changed Elliot into Nanase's form and why they would do such a thing? Heck, I don't know. Bored aliens? A disgruntled wizard? Cursed character creation menu from a video game? Anything's possible. Take your pick.

All I know for certain is that I've been wanting to draw characters from the comic morphing into other characters from the comic, and for some reason I thought of Elliot and Nanase (from the comic, as opposed to other Elliots and Nanases). How am I supposed to know why my brain does what it does? That guy's crazy.

Hey, it's John Troutman! You might remember him from such comics as Lit Brick, Mary Elizabeth's Sock, and Sporkman.

Someone on Twitter suggested that since there was an EGS version of Troutman, EGS Troutman should logically get turned into a woman. I could not argue with that logic. I did ask Troutman ahead of time if this was acceptable, however, as I think it's polite to ask before turning someone into a woman.

It was, for the record, his idea to include the Sporkman puppet and make it female. It was also something I could not argue with.

This is a result of John Troutmans My Life in Sticks ( [link] ), a blog with comics by his character, Molly (AKA the redhead in this image). Im actually in some of these comics, which means I officially have a shot with any of his female characters! After this one ( [link] ), however, I realized that I wasnt doing too well with Molly or Nichole, so I decided I would impress them by drawing them in skimpy outfits after having just killed a dragon in Skyrim! What woman wouldnt want their male friends drawing them in skimpy fantasy outfits?

So, yeah. I can only assume these two fictional ladies will be fighting over me after this. I only hope Nichole isnt too offended that I made Molly the Dragonborn. I mean, I had to pick one of them for that role, and Mollys *current* boyfriend is a TV star, so shes obviously going to be more difficult to impress. Statistical probability demanded I give the role to Molly! Nothing personal, Nichole.

Side note: I was both lucky and unlucky when playing Skyrim to get a reference for the dragon. I was unlucky in that a glitch prevented me from earning a dragon soul for killing the dragon, but I was lucky in that I was left with a perfectly intact dragon to take screenshots of. Yay glitches that will hopefully be patched at some point now that Im done benefiting from them?

Okay, maybe not entirely, but I instantly thought of this when I learned my helicopter pilot buddy in Deus Ex: Human Revolution ( [link] ) was named Malik. Malik is the perhaps more accurate translation of the name of a Yu-Gi-Oh! character who is more commonly known in the English dub as "Marik".

So... yeah. Malik as Malik. Whee!

In case the "F!" didn't make it apparent, this is more based on the Abridged Series ( [link] ) Marik than the official series, which I've never really watched. I did try the card game and read some of the manga, but I never made it far enough to see Marik in any official form. I'm boldly assuming the dropping of censored f-bombs is not canon.

I don't know where the hell Butch-Kevin got a leather jacket that fits over football shoulder pads, but then I never really understood where the hell the tunnel snakes got their leather jackets, either. I can think of possible explanations, the most likely being that the first vault inhabitants brought some in, but it remains a strange thing.

I'm not sure where they are in rivet city for there to be that much space, nothing along the walls, that clean, etc, but whatever

Ant Queen Pheromones are an item in Fallout 3 that temporarily raise the users charisma by 3, but also temporarily lowers their intelligence and perception by 3 each. It's worth noting that this is on a scale of 1 to 10 with 5 being the average.

When I first encountered this item, it seemed odd to me that losing intellect and perceptiveness would make someone a smoother talker. My interpretation was that it temporarily rendered the user a sexy idiot, which still seems problematic given differing genders and sexual orientations, but whatever. Combine that line of thinking with Vault Brain, and here we are.

Let's see... I've now combined Daria with Fallout, Fallout with My Little Pony, and My Little Pony with Daria. I think I'll eventually have to combine all three.

Daria's cutie mark is a book with a design based on the book Twilight was reading in the first episode of MLP:FiM. Jane's cutie mark is two brushes, and Brittany's sporting a pom-pom that looks more like a dual-colored flower, but whatevah.

I was originally going to base the color of Daria and Jane's coat colors on their respective normal coats (green and red, respectively), but neither looked good to me. Those colors got reassigned to their eyes while Daria's coat wound up based on Daria's shirt, and Jane's coat is basically the result of me adding a bit of yellow saturation after finding a purely grey coat too, well, grey.

The dialogue references the "Through a Lens Darkly" episode of Daria. The second sentence of Jane's dialogue is a quote of Daria talking about herself and her ability to see better than other people in spite of needing glasses. Jane couldn't help but point out the egotism.

I shouldn't have to say this, but seriously: do NOT hold a gun with your mouth. No good can come from it.

I would make a joke about being a grown man who is a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, but I think half the internet (including myself) have done that already, so let's move on.

I was given Fallout: New Vegas and discovered the new MLP show around the same time, and while playing FO:NV with all of it's western themes, I found myself picturing Applejack as the courier.

The downed ponies are meant to be feral ghouls. I played fast and loose with their color scheme, however, for added contrast with the Mojave wasteland. That pony in the back is a Nightkin. Their cutie marks are the symbol for radioactive and a crescent moon with stars, respectively.

The gun Applejack is holding (in such a fashion that nobody should ever mimic) is the Lucky .357 magnum revolver. I chose it for its western appearance and distinct look, but I later realized it was even more appropriate that I thought given that the gun basically has its own cutie mark.

That said, I have no idea how she fires the darn thing.

I'm aware Daria is out of character here, and my defense is that I don't care.

Anyway, the exploit she speaks of is that there is a unique gun in Fallout 3 that a character will give you if you find and show her the right thing. It turns out, however, that it's NOT so unique, because it's possible to get her to give you an unlimited number of them (complete with some ammo). It's a powerful exploit because it can completely break the game's economy, which can diminish or increase the fun depending on how you like to play.

Jane's dressed in the Merc Adventurer outfit, and as for who Jane is in the this image, well, um... See, I was trying to figure out which companion was best fit to be Jane's double, and the criteria was basically a constant companion who wasn't concerned with karma or payment, and the companion who fit that description, well... Let's just say that collar isn't standard for the Merc Adventurer outfit

I finally got around to playing Fallout 3 towards the end of last year, and got hooked on it. On my first play through of the game, I had a really high Charisma, and was pretty much able to smooth talk my way through almost any situation.

I recently decided I wanted to play through again, but not allow myself to use Charisma to talk my way out of things. I also wanted my character to have high Perception and Intelligence, and that combination of highs and lows made me think of Daria. Thus began the adventures of the Vault Brain.

This was made via Illustrator and drawn pretty much right on top of a screen shot from the show, so the accuracy is nothing to be too impressed about.

It could conceivably be fun to make some fan comics around this merger and it's conceivably possible I might make some someday, particularly given that I've been coming up with ideas for those comics without even really trying. At the very least it would be a good experiment in making decent looking copy-paste comics in Illustrator, which is basically the only way I would have time to make any of those fan comics

This is a larger version of a sketchbook entry and is shameless comedic fan service. More so than I intended, actually, because Grace is supposed to wear a black top under her sweater that should be covering up her chest a little bit more here and I apparently forgot to include it.

I considered correcting the mistake, but as I said, it's shameless comedic fan service, so it's actually sort of appropriate.

This was a challenge to myself to improve upon the first Myr Token I made. I admittedly didn't put much effort into the first one beyond the "paint" effect, as that was the main thing I was practicing with that.

With this one, I wanted to put more effort into the drawing, composition, etc. Still not super special awesome, but I think it's a step up considering that it's my second faux-painting in oh so many years

As with anything I make like this, I don't care if you use it (I actually think people using it would be awesome), just don't take credit for it or try to sell it or... yeah, just don't be evil, basically.

Speaking of credit, I got the template for this token from the MTG Salvation forums, and I used the FPM and Xander's Modern Style Token template (I assume FPM and Xander are the "FirePenguinMaster Studios" mentioned on the card). I am very paranoid about downloading stuff off of forums and scanned everything I downloaded before opening them, so near as I can tell it's all good, but I encourage being careful about stuff like that. My paranoia aside, these people seem to have done excellent work.

I'm hoping whatever cards I manage to get at the Scars of Mirrodin Perelease include some that give me the opportunity to put this token to use. I'm all about getting that "what the hell...?" look from my opponents.

It's been a long time since I tried to "paint" in Photoshop. Not bad considering how little practice I have, but not great, either. That, and I had to adjust the contrast and lightness a ton to get it to look okay when printed.

EDIT: If you want to print this out and use the token yourself, I'm totally fine with that. I share custom tokens with the hope that others might also make use of them ^_^

My Magic Parody Comics

I am not a fan of the Baneslayer Angel. It's a good card and I was lucky enough to get one at a 2011 prerelease tournament, but I don't feel it's balanced. If it cost more mana, or didn't have both first strike and lifelink, or was legendary, I'd probably like it. It seems the only "balance" to it is its supposed rarity, however, and I don't consider rareness to be a valid balancing method.

This comic was a bit trickier to make than the previous two. For one thing, I had to do some research regarding Serra Angel's original outfit. I'm not opposed to the new design, but it made much more sense in the context of this comic to go with the earliest Serra Angel design, and her original cards only showed her from the chest up. Enough, perhaps, to excite teenage boys back in the day, but not enough to know what the rest of her dress looked like

My Magic Parody Comics

Hoarding Dragon + Elixir Of Immortality. It's not necessarily a GOOD combo, but there's some logic to it. If your opponent kills off the dragon, they know for a fact that you'll be given quick access to +5 life and that the dragon (along with the rest of your graveyard and the Elixir) will be shuffled back into the library. There are probably far better ways to take advantage of the Dragon's ability, but I haven't put much thought into it.

This comic was inspired by my thinking of Gollum while looking at the Hoarding Dragon in a comic shop's 2011 binder, and then almost immediately realizing I was being stupid for not thinking of Smaug first. I don't mention Smaug by name in the comic because Smaug is a bit more obscure than Gollum these days and this is already referential humor within referential humor

My Magic Parody Comics

People who don't play Magic: The Gathering are bound to be confused by this, but it's a joke about a combo using Bloodthrone Vampire and Mitotic Slime. A Whispersilk Cloak is also being used, but the main combo is the feeding of a whole mess of slime to the vampire to give it +14/+14 until end of turn when all is said and done.

Incidentally, if you don't envision your creatures referring to you as their master, you're not playing it right.

This PDF is intended for use with Magic: The Gathering (M:TG). The idea is to print this out, cut it down to 2.5 x 3.5 inches, put it and a land card in a protective sleeve, and use a small counter to track how much life a player has.

If you have experience with exacto knives and cutting straight lines with them, you can use the trim marks to get exact 2.5 x 3.5" dimensions. If you don't, please use scissors so I don't have your blood on my conscience o_o

I played during a tournament last Sunday, and keeping track of life was handled in various ways. All of them had issues.

Just remembering - Mistakes happen, especially with numbers.

Paper - Uses up paper, potential messes from graphite and ink, running out on room on paper if not erasing, pencil shavings everywhere if erasing...

20-sided dice - I HATE LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT NUMBER ON THOSE THINGS O_O

Phone app - Pretty good, actually, but the player who owns the phone has the best view and all the control.

I wanted to design something that would allow both players to see each others life totals and get an idea of where they each stand with but a glance while being easy and quick to adjust.

MY FIRST IDEA WAS AN ELABORATE SET OF 3D TOWERS WITH SLIDERS THAT WOULD SIT ON THE TABLE O_O

...No seriously, that was my first idea. I was considering how to construct the thing, thought that such visual aides for tracking numbers might already exist in the form of a teaching aide, searched a teaching merchandise website, saw a number chart for kindergartners, smacked myself upside the head, and made this in Illustrator.

Keep It Simple, Stupid? Bah. Such ridiculousness.

The blog has more, but this is what I had to say about the sketches:

This is fan art of three of the reviewers at the That Guy With The Glasses website ( [link] - much swearing, NSFW. The site, I mean; not this fan art). In the upper and lower left is Doug Walker as the Nostalgia Critic, the upper-right is Lindsay Ellis as the Nostalgia Chick, and in the lower-right is Lewis Lovhaug as Linkara. These three are my favorite reviewers on the site, though I should note I haven't seen them all as there are many, MANY reviewers there.

I drew the Critic twice because I wanted to draw him with an angry mug, and the Nostalgia Chick wound up looking a bit too cutesy in the first drawing (which is difficult to avoid when drawing in my style), so I felt obligated to draw her looking less friendly as well. Meanwhile, I was satisfied with Linkara's disgust over reading what is apparently a retooling of Pride & Prejudice by Frank Miller, so he's only there once.

TF Meme - Phoenix Wright

So I finally filled it out. I didn't expect to have it be about Phoenix Wright back when I made the meme, but that's what I felt like drawing, and I had some good jokes to go with it. Well, in my opinion, anyway.

Regarding each part (I advise reading these after reading the meme itself):

1 - Was tempted to transform Edgeworth as Phoenix suggested, but Phoenix is a more amusing target.

2 - What's scary is, based on Maya's comments throughout the games, her trying this sort of stuff out on Phoenix isn't the least bit far-fetched.

I only skimmed the text of my own meme and realized I had failed to show her transforming someone after I had drawn and grown attached to it, hence why part of the instructions are crossed out.

3 - My intent was to make a joke about Larry's womanizing and being enamored with himself, but it sorta sounds like (s)he's hitting on Wright... o_O

I'd like to see mini-Franziska in court, mostly because I assume she would still intimidate everyone.

4 - I didn't make her say it, but I can't help but picture Iris making an inquisitive meowing sound here.

5 - I consider Phoenix's jealousy of how Mia is treated to be canon, though I think this would be more of a "look on the bright side" aspect of this scenario rather than at the forefront of Phoenix's mind.

6 - Larry's face here is an amalgam of many faces he makes in the games. It just might be one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

7 - Phoenix's devotion to Edgeworth, particularly in the first game, borders on--oh, heck, it IS obsession. There's something going on there, but I'm not sure what. There's plenty of evidence that Phoenix likes women, so it's wide open to speculation. I'm a fan of people simply being really good friends (SAM AND FRODO ARE JUST CLOSE BUDDIES!), but still...

In Edgeworth's case, I like the idea of him being gay. If that were confirmed as canon, I'd be happy with it. More likely, though, there'll be a female love interest in his upcoming game who will ENRAGE ME.

8 - If you haven't played the games, this might seem entirely gratuitous, but I assure you it is 75% gratuitous at most! I don't know if Maya would actually be happy with this sort of development, but I'd rather draw a happy Maya than a distraught Maya, so happy she is.

EDIT - It's occurred to me that, in the event of gender transformations, one could wind up not wanting to apply the first or second favorite type of transformation without applying the TG first. Not that my permission is needed, but taking certain liberties to draw what you'd prefer to draw in steps 4, 5 and 6 is fine

Well, I did it. I made a meme for people to fill out. Ideally I would fill this out myself now, but I'm not sure when I'll get to that. The only way I could even justify taking the time to draw the one image that's on here is that I have a new tablet I need practice with, and it made for a good warm up before working on EGS. I plot to do it eventually, so there's no need to "tag" me in question nine

Many probably already know the drill, but here it is: You draw your answers, or whatever, in the spaces provided. I look forward to whatever, if anything, results from this.

I was told to animate something for my cartooning class. I found this odd, because up to that point I had the impression that the class wasn't about animation. I'm still left wondering why this was assigned and what we were supposed to gain from it relative to the objectives of the class, but whatever.

I had originally wanted to animate Grace from my El Goonish Shive comic transforming into her non-horned Omega form, and even drew six very sketchy key frames for it. I then remembered that we hadn't actually been taught how to properly animate characters and would have to teach myself how to do so over the course of many days with time I don't have, so here's animated goo done entirely in flash instead.

In the end, I like this animation. I don't get why it was assigned, but I like it.

Pirate Turtle 2

The pirate turtle shows up once more, this time with some of his crew. His crew is larger than this, but these are the ones I have pictures of scanned and feel like uploading.

His first mate, the rum-wielding hamster, is actually going to be turned into a clay model for a cartooning class project. I was originally going to make the turtle, but I know zilch about model making and I basically need to be done by Wednesday, so... yeah. Potato shaped drunken hamster it is.

Incidentally, there is a theoretical children's movie tie in as part of the project, so "rum" will be changed to "courage". I'm sure nobody will take him guzzling down liquid courage the wrong way.

The mermaid should probably be the first mate, but I drew the hamster first, so she's stuck at a lower rank. She is the most formidable fighter the turtle has working for him, and she can scout ahead in the water. She's intentionally not a sparkly pretty princess of a mermaid. I wouldn't say she's ugly, but she's definitely no little mermaid.

Pirate Turtle

I was making jokes in my cartooning class today about those drawing class commercials where part of the application was (if I recall correctly) drawing a turtle and a pirate, so I drew a cheap little sketch of a pirate turtle.

Then the professor said we were going to be talking about one panel comics, so I drew ANOTHER cheap little sketch and added a caption. After that, I wanted to draw a better version of the turtle, so I drew this.

By the time the professor gave us class time to actually make a one panel comic, I was already done. What's awesome is that I would've drawn this even if it wasn't assigned, and I actually thought I would have to draw something else due to having doodled this during class and not during the assigned lab time. He said it was fine, though, so huzzah!

EDIT: Also note that this is technically a conceptual image as far as the assignment is concerned, so there'll be a more "finished" version eventually, methinks.

This was supposed to be a quick practice sketch to get me going on my other work, and it turned into this. This was done entirely in illustrator. The sketches were done using the pencil and brush, and all the "inking" and coloring was done via the pen tool.

The pen tool is, indeed, quite beastly. If I was faster with it, I would likely use it more than the brush tool for inking for the sake of more powerful control over the thickness of lines and such.

This deviation is marked to encourage advanced critique. I'm mostly looking for critiques regarding the shading and the line work, as I foresee myself using this method for class projects and possibly other things, though not EGS because it would update maybe once a week if I used this method

Also, since I'm looking for critiques? The download size is fairly huge.

If you'd like to consider that a TG transformation (among other things), be my guest. Mostly, though, it was the best reference image I had, and I always prefer to use reference images of my own. In fact, if I'm tracing, I'll only use my own images.

Iron Jinx: 3 Years of Starslip

Mr. Jinx is my favorite Starslip Crisis character. I seem to be drawn to minions and sidekicks, and given Mr. Jinx's obedience and duties on board the Fuseli, he definitely falls into that general area.

As for why he's "Iron Jinx" in this image? Apparently Kris likes Iron Man. He even shaved his goatee to look more like Tony Stark, which frankly, I approve of. Therefore, Iron Jinx!

EDIT: Oh, and for those not in the know, Mr. Jinx's hearts, among other things, are actually in his "posterior abdomen", hence the power source back there. I consider the power source on his chest to be more or less a decoy.

Velocitoaster has had a place in my heart for many years now, but this is its first public appearance. The genesis of its creation was as an invention of Amanda's. It would simultaneously show her incredible building capabilities while being one of the most pointless and useless inventions ever.

Velocitoaster may yet see the light of day in an Amanda-related story, but after showing sketches of it to some of my classmates and getting a very positive response, I decided it was high time it saw the light of day.

This "ad" actually has false advertising, however. Velocitoaster is far slower than the ad would have you believe, and it is by no means carnivorous. That just sounded like a hilarious description to me, and 40 mph is close to what I've heard a top speed for velociraptors would likely have been.

In truth, the Velocitoaster is rather docile and easy to control, in spite of it being scary looking and growling (why Amanda programmed it to growl and roar, I have no idea). Just in case it goes haywire, however, Amanda built the "Velocifork" countermeasure. This is somewhat counterintuitive, as Velocitoaster is only theoretically aggressive if it malfunctions in just the right way, while Velocifork is hostile and violent by design. Mad scientists often use somewhat roundabout logic, however.

Oh, and just for the record, Tori was well compensated to assert her dislike for stationary toasters. She actually prefers toasters that stay wherever she chooses to place them, and has no desire to tend to whatever needs a Velocitoaster might have.

Raquirrets

This is part of the first project we had for my digital illustration class. It was a test to see what we could do in Illustrator working off of scanned sketches. To that end, this was made entirely in illustrator using a scanned sketch as a template.

Though they haven't seen much play, I consider these critters to essentially be my mascots at this point, at least as far as class projects are concerned.

The reason I call them Raquirrets are because they make me think of squirrels and rabbits merged together. The reason they have two tails is that their design is somewhat based on what I used to parody Smash Bros in EGS. In El Goonish Shive, there was a video game squirrel with two tails that, together, would conduct electricity. As far as I know, these guys aren't zappy, and focus primarily on being cute.

The Arts Center

This was for school! Yay! It's a map of the arts center for the school, which I suppose will help anyone attempting to determine whether or not I go to their school.

The icons I may post separately at some point, so I won't go into much detail on them here. What I will say, however, is that I had a mantra for this assignment: "When in doubt, add a beret."

Oh, and if the theater/music division looks weird, it's because they're actually one department, and were split simply so those of us mapping the arts center would have six symbols to make. In truth, they're both a part of performance arts.

What do the Shadows Hide?

School project. I had to put together something for a little booklet I could theoretically send out to companies who hire illustrators to show how AWESOME I am. I doubt I'll be mailing this anywhere nor do I think it proves any awesomeness on my part, but I do believe it meets the requirements of the project.

...YAY!

The girl in question in this comic is a character I currently refer to as "Alex", though that may change before she winds up in DES Comics. The basis for her character and her design is... well, I'll get into that in a later deviation

As for what's going on in this, it is a simple illustrative narrative. Here it is spelled out for those who are confused:

1. Girl yawns
2. Girl turns out light
3. Darkness
4. Lights on, big raccoons everywhere
5. Raccoons scurry away
6. Hard to get back to sleep, lights stay on

AND NOW YOU KNOW! And knowing is half the battle.

Anyway, the whole thing is the result of just trying to think of something, ANYTHING to do for this project, having Raccoons on my mind for some reason, and the age old idea of cockroaches scurrying away when the lights are turned on being introduced to my mind in that state. Something weird was bound to happen
