So, who else could I start off with but our fiery heroine, Rekki Lune!? I went for an autumnal theme for this, since it's Autumn, and the warm colours suit Rekki's personality and go well with her hair.
The scarf is my favourite bit. I just was doodling the preliminary sketches for the image, and I just draped this big Tom Baker Dr. Who scarf on her and went 'Aha! That's it!'
This is available as a print. It's also a game which has aged remarkably well. It's still easy to get totally wrapped up in the adventure. The music, the gameplay, the story...they all feel just right.
Lucca is my favourite character. Not that many people are Lucca fans. I really like her though, firstly because she's a female character in an RPG who isn't particularly pretty. Think about that carefully, how many RPG heroines can you name who look dorky? Also, she carries a hammer AND a gun. If the enemy is far away, she shoots them, if they're close, they get hammered. That was just a little detail about her that I thought was cool. Finally, her theme tune is used as the main fanfare in Chrono Cross and she's an egotistical mad scientist! What's not to like?

This piece was done in the usual way I do stuff. Pencil, fineliner, scanned and CG coloured. Had to keep checking the original artwork to make sure I got all the details. Toriyama's designs are remarkably detailed!

I did this because I've been conscripted somebody's project....yes, again. I can't help it! I'm REALLY bad at turning people down -_-; This one is for a CT cardgame. If you like CT and want to help out, there are about 100 cards to do, and the more people doing them, the less cards each person will have to do. Even if you just do a couple it'd help. Send me a note if you want more details.

My style probably isn't the best for drawing Rukia, since I tend towards drawing sturdy, muscular girls by default (which is kind of strange I guess since I'm actually rather petite myself) wheras Rukia is a small and delicate looking girl (she's one of the only full grown characters I can name who's actually smaller than me, I think she's about 4'9" or something. So uh, anyway, I decided to draw a battle ready Rukia. Not sure why I did her in uniform really, mainly because hakama are so damned hard to draw in action poses (and that's coming from a girl who OWNS a shinigami hakama bought in Japan!). There are some things that I like here though. Rekki with freckles. I figured I'd try it. In reality she probably would have freckles. Anime artists always overdo freckles, they draw them as big dots on the characters' faces, which doesn't look nice or cute at all. Oh, and they always draw freckles on the cheeks. That's not where freckles really are. Freckles fall where the sun hits you most often.
I realise I've done Rekki in an orange shirt before, but I just wanted to bring warm colours in throughout the picture. Even the jeans are a slightly purplish indigo, I wanted to keep the colours nice and reddish.
I quite like the pose here. The general feel of the piece is to convey Rekki as the down-to-earth character she is. The battle scarred scabbard, the freckled arms, the worn jeans and the relaxed, but ready crouch.
Right, tomorrow I'm buying another new sketchbook. Ok, less wierd and symbolic than the original chapter 3 cover I scrapped (can be found in my scraps) but it has Rekki looking tough, and I'm sure none of you regular readers of the comic will complain about that!
Lookie lookie! I'm trying to improve my anatomical drawing and also my CG work! ^_^ Getting better slowly. Hopefully I'll be able to do some really interesting poses soon by improving this stuff.
Looking forward to doing actual pages of chapter 3 now...

This is a very straightforward CG. It was sketched in pencil, inked with fineliner and CG'ed. The whole drawing process went very smoothly. I think Selphie is a more tomboyish character than a lot of fanart depicts her as. I wanted a kind of tough-but-cute Selphie pic. The first thing that came to mind was one of the funniest things she says in the game:
"Blow it to smithereens with a Rocket Launcher!?"

So there you go. Selphie from Final Fantasy VIII...with a Rocket Launcher. It was the obvious thing to do. ^_^
The drawing work was mech pencil, scanned and then with a fair bit of CGing in Photoshop. It's a bit more bold and bright than some of my stuff. It just fit the sort of piece. Some influence came from the famous 'Ph33r the cute ones' picture from Megatokyo, hence the title.

I haven't drawn any Selphie for a while, but since I recently joined and my scanner has finally arrived, I decided it's high time I did some fanart of one of my very favourite video game characters.
I think Selphie is a more tomboyish character than a lot of fanart depicts her as. I wanted a kind of tough-but-cute Selphie pic. The first thing that came to mind was one of the funniest things she says in the game:
"Blow it to smithereens with a Rocket Launcher!?"
Rekki and Sarin, tied together by the red string of fate. Feeling intregued yet? ^_^ It took me ages to come up with a good idea for the cover of this chapter, and even though I've uploaded it as digital art because it's CG'ed, there was a lot of hard pencil and pen work went into this image before it was scanned. Because of the big height difference between Rekki and Sarin, the composition was fiendishly difficult for me.
I'm not gonna shy from saying, this is probably one of the all round best bits of work I've ever produced. I hope you continue to enjoy the comic into the second chapter! ^_^
