what you see here is not only the evolution tree of Guilmon
it shows also my own evolution after three years of papercrafting

from Guilmon, one of my first papercrafts, where i used the lined sheets and doubled-tape
to Gigimon what i build still with scored folding lines
over Jyarimon, where i tested out the shaded crafting method
up to Growlmon, a really great model what i build for the digipapermon blog

and finally Wargrowlmon, my very own model (and the biggest *bleh* )
what i build from ground base (except the 3d mesh)
and when i look at this picture
i defenitly know why i'm doing this
is there something cooler then this?

and for all Digimon fans
yeah, i know it's not the whole tree
but

oh yeah
big mecha dragon
this Digimon has a long story
i had this model meanwhile since a really long time
but wasn't able again to edit the mesh
so i was again happy that this time MichelCFK started the work
but as i ask him when he will start with it, he told me that there is so many stuff inside the mesh, that it is impossible to build
and if i could try to build it
so i started the work and i can tell you, it was more like a pain in the ass to remove the mesh and collissions
it was really confusing and i still have a lot of shitty faces in the sheets
so do not wonder that there are some triangles at the grey zone

anyway, after a lot long nights i finally can give you Wargrowlmon back
i hope you like it

the model itself isn't really that hard as it may look
it has just other dimensions

build the lower torso, lower arms (blades and claws) and shoulders seperated
combine the shoulders and the head with the pages 28 and 29
and continue to the chest
when you are done you can combine lower and upper torso with each other

for the other stuff
how to add the antenna or how the claws are working

as i build the model
i noticed
"ok, how the .... should i add the antenna"
and i came up to that idea

i added a hole in that shape of the antenna
then i build that thing what i call bridge also with a hole in that size

i think you can guess how it is working
and it worked very well
but be sure you add the antenna before you close the upper torso

the rest is just a matter of patience
add the head, build to the front and add the lower pieces of the torso one after another

the head itself isn't hard
sadly, like the hair, i had here also some mesh problems what i couldn't solve
so don't wonder that the sheets look a bit weird

just follow the numbers and you will have no problems

you also should wait before you add the spikes, until the whole model is done
i attached them and had a lot of trouble

the shoulders are actually really simple
the only piece what is...looks a bit weird is the one at page 15 and 24
but it's not a problem

build the cylinder and wrap the next one arround
then fold the first edge backwards and fix it

after that, add the next piece and wrap this around too
and you will get this part done

the rest shouldn't be that hard

Wargrowlmon - Shoulder modifications

these modifications are optional
i just made them because this ventilation ports or boosters looked a bit boring
so i just added a few cardboard sripes into them

at the second picture you can see that grenade launcher (that thing with the three cylinders)
that comes with the sheets

the big cylinder is also a modification
i had a bit black colored paper and made a big cylinder out of it, did a hole with the same diameter in the front of that piece and glued it inside
just that simple

Wargrowlmon - Lower arms and Claws

ok now, this is important, because here you need the white sheets too (ore you print the colored ones twice)

here you can see what you need to build one single claw
sadly i forgot to edit them so i had to improvise a bit
what worked surprisingly perfect

in the sheets for the claws you have this allready build front
two different black sripes one star and one weird looking one what you can see at pic4

i used the big stripe and the star from the white sheets too, to create the inner structure

here you can see them combined

when you are done with that, just push the whole thing inside until you have a small border between them
ore just to the edge of the second piece of the claw front
(oh man, what a instruction )

when it's dry you can add the other two pieces and receive the final claw

to add the claws at the base, you need to cut some lines into it,
i choose this method because i don't know how you want to attach them
maybe you want a different hand position or what ever
but anyway
it isn't that hard
you can see the yellow lines where i think it's the best to cut inside
also, test it first before you glue them together
the tabs need to shorten a bit

here i allready build the first spike and combined the front of the "ear-spike".... or what ever that is

i didn't fold them backwards, i cut them away
the pieces are that flat, that you can glue them together without them

well then, my second Ben 10 papercraft
(and for sure not the last )
even the editing was annoying, it was fun to build it
there were so many buggy polygones, which were attached into nothing
very confusing

the model has a few small pieces (not tiny ) but is not very hard
so it shoudn't be any bigger problems here
that's also the reason why i made not instruction shots this time again

but i write you a few tips
start as always with the legs and arms separate
combine the legs with the pieces at page 10

build the head until you reach piece 29 or 30
build the neck (pieces 31a-f and so on) separate
later you have still the chance to combine it with the head
it's a bit tricky but not very hard

but you can also follow the number count
it's up to you

before you close the torso with the piece at page 7
add the two wires (from the backpack to the headphones....or whatever that should be ) first
cut the two diamond formed holes into the backpack before you add it to the torso (piece 40 in the pdf)
later it's a bit harder (but still possible)

try it first that the wires fit, that you have later no problems to add them
you will also notice that the head will gain much more stability when you attach the wires
also you have here the chance to align it a bit

by the way, the model need no weight in the legs to stand

oh man, that took long
but finally i can show you and share the final model of Tails

before you now download the model, print and start to build it without any background informations
i have to warn you, building this model was just a pain is the ass and it was probably the hardest model i build so far
and in my case that should mean something

even the editing was hell and meanwhile i know my job, but had i known that it would be that hard, i had edit the model much much more
there are still a few issues in the mesh but no worries, i will explain everything in the building process shots.

i can't really say why it was so hard, there are not much pieces or rather, not more then other model
i also cut the sheets in the best way i know, but to combine all the stuff, specially the wiskers, the chest and the tail pieces, was just ugh
maybe because this time it was just something special
the model is flying, the tail is quite the same size as the rest of the model and to find a working method to combine it with the torso took me a whole week
but hey, it is working as you can see and that's part of the job, to find and solve issues of the own models

i also made a lot of photos this time, that you shouldn't have that much problems here

model description:
the model will come on 37 pages with 265 pieces and is 45cm tall
again, the model has a flying pose and will not stand anywhere
it is very hard and has a lot of weird looking pieces

the difficult level this time is 10
so don't underestimate it
and take a look at the building process gallery

oh yeah
this was a must build for me
i'm a great fan of this Ben10 franchise
not only because of the story, more because of the whole alien design
specially XLR8 is one of my favorites
as i saw on facebook that there exist 3d models from the games
i just had to do it

sadly, the one who posted the screenshot didn't or won't react at my offer to build this model for him
with full credits like i do when i make a collaboration
well, wasn't my problem because Odnamra send me a message with the model
so you people can thank him, that you now can download this model

thanks a lot man
i guess you saved the day for a lot people here
include mine

editing the model took my a while, specially the hands and legs were a bit tricky
and had i knew that the model is still that hard, i had edit it a lot more
that's why i rate this model with 9 from 10
it's really something for experts
i swear and cursed a lot, just to tell you
there are a lot of backward foldings and tiny pieces which took a lot of patience

that for, please read the "building process gallery" closely before you start
i wrote everything down what could be helpfull for you

also, you can see it, i put a thin acryl pole into the tail
the model DON'T stand on it's own
but that's shouldn't be any problem

the model will come on 20 pages with 188 pieces and is 45cm tall
again, the model is hard and has a lot of tiny pieces
i rate it with 9 from 10
so don't underestimate it

build the tail, head, legs, and arms seperately and combine them later

what a project
not because of the model itself
it is not very hard
more because of the sidework of the "Papercraft Tutorial" where is use this model for

to build this model and more to show you how i build it, make this model to something very special
and i hope you will enjoy building Gomamon as much as i did

About the Model:
the model comes on 10 pages, with 117 pieces and is about 20cm high

the sheets don't contain the hair
even it was a pain in the ass to peel all the wool in the right direction, is was quite funny (and a huge mess )
but trust me and you can see it in the Tutorial
to build all this triangles, i guess it wouldn't make fun

in my case i use colored sheep wool to build the hair, but you can also use paper, cardboard, plush, felt or whatever
it's hair, it don't look always the same

About the Package:

one with folding lines and texture (lined)
one without folding lines and texture (lineless)
and one white with folding lines (white)

and after the first poor and lazy try of a papercraft tutorial
i'm proudly present the second better version, where i'm gonna explain every single step what i do when i'm build a papermodel out of a 3d mesh

after meanwhile three years of papercrafting i still can say, it is one of the best hobbys i've ever had and with this little series i wanna show you
that it is not that hard as it looks
but also that there is much more work behind as you may know

About the Tutorial:
This tutorial is ground basic
specially the first part, where i am explaining the first steps in Metasequoia
what means, it counts for beginner and also professional 3d desinger
the only thing what you should have is some knowledge in papercrafting
where you start
what is possible to build
and what not

for this tutorial i'm using Metasequoia, a great freeware 3d editor what you can download "here"
if you are allready using an other programm like 3dsmax, Lightwave or Blender, you can of course use one of these
it doesn't matter because the method is the same

i also use Photoshop but every other image editor should do the same
the only thing what you have to purchase is the "Pepakura Desinger"
because only the Viewer is free

About the 3d models:
there are a lot of model sources out there
google is your best friend here
but i will NOT explain how to receive or where you can download 3d game models
that is not the meaning of this tutorial and here starts also the illegal part
why?
to recieve 3d meshes out of games, you have mostly break or rip them and you can imagine, the most developer don't really pleased by that

but as i said, google is your best friend here

well then
Knuckels, the first of my four Sonic models, is done
and i'm really happy about it

after i finished the head i wasn't really in the mood to continue
i just hate it to build the head at first
i don't know, for me the model comes to the end first, until i build the head
but this time i had to build all the other stuff after
and i took myself very hard

anyway

if you are in papercraft and follow some blogs, you may know that there is an allready exist model of Knuckels
so you may ask why i'm build an other one ?
i don't wanna blame/harm juke here by telling some things
but i have my reasons
i had this model on my computer for over a year and actually i was really happy that he build this model as first
so i thought i don't have to do it on my own
but there are some things what i don't like in papercraft general, what this model includes

so i build it on my own again

i'll not explain what it is
all i can say is to all new designer out there
do yourself and the other papercrafters a favour
and build your models first on your own
remove the issues and failures
AND THEN release them

i made that mistake one time
and i still regret it

now then
to the model

the model is not easy
if i had to count it
i would rate it 7 out of 10
so don't underestimate it

this model was on my list for a very long long time
and i'm happy that i finally started
and finished it

i have to say this
even this model has "only" four pages
DON't make that mistake and underestimate it
but this one is nothing for starter

the most time took me to re-draw the tab-side that it worked easier for me
also some pieces are really ugly and hard to understand
specially the elbow parts

Tipps & Tricks:
i made no tutorial or progress pictures, well honestly i was not in the mood to do it, i just want to build it

but of course i wanna give you some tipps here

first and maybe important
try to print that thing on A3 or double sized
some pieces are terrible tiny, specially the head has some really ugly pieces

think first before you start to score or/and cut
how you would build it or rather it would easier for you
the pdo is protected so you have to

the torso has a few issues between the chest and the hip, the single faces are squares but bend as triangles, so there are a few hidden folding lines

the legs itself are easy, the only thing where you have to look out is the piece what stick out and you have to bend the leg a bit when you wanna combine it with the hip

the arms are the most complicated pieces
as i said, specially the elbow
there are two pieces (C6+7 and C32+C33)
combine them first
if you build them in row you will have later a lot of problems
trust me, i had to build the whole thing again

didn't build any of the weapon thingies, because they are just impossible, i don't know how the designer made it
freaking indonesian papercraft gods

anyway, it was fun to build that thing, it is really a stylish white mecha model
but never again

like the Axe what i recently uploaded, it's also a redesign from the Playboy Sinanju version

the first two photos are showing the complete new scope
(just if you wonder why there are numbers missing )
i build the scope that way because
well, i mean it's a rifle not a sub-machine gun
a rifle need a huge scope
period

you can also see this little scope attachment
the original plastic version has that too

i used some wires to combine the small pieces
actually the whole piece is a pipe

IMPORTANT!
to add the "shadow catchers" at the front and back
you have to try out what diameter you need
i calculated with different paperweights

the third photo shows the whole model with the numbers,
just if there are still some questions about that

the fourth is a few hours later with some finished parts

and finally the finished weapon

well, as i recieved the original 3d model from and some other versions from other sources, i noticed that the original texture looks boring and stupid because of the missing blur and glow effects what are just impossible in real life
so i decided to build this model as desktop statue like what you can see sometimes in the game

also i had to remove this inner steps, these steps would have made the model a lot more harder because they were not stright
so i removed them

all in all, i think it looks good
by the way, you don't have to use a stone texture, i noticed that the model looks also good with wood, metal and other textures
i guess even in white it will look cool

model description:
the model comes on 5 pages (page six for instructions and credits)
with 50 pieces and is 30cm tall

the pedestal contains a blank cylinder out of paper (comes with the sheets)
and the model a bit of weight that it doesn't fall down

you maybe allready know this part

i know it's "not the original beam axe what's hidden behind the shield"
i have to say
i don't give a shit
all the work put into this, from the resize, redesign and recolor was just worth
but it's not only an axe, with a little special it can be morphed to a spear from 50cm to 65cm

the other thing, the original design is just really cool and totally open

when you print the pages a few times, you can build two weapons or on one side two big blades and on the other two small and waht not, it's up to the builder

but anyway
now to the morphing system
through the resize i had a little problem
the original staff is one page tall and i had to think about what to do
so i decided to cut that piece into three different and build it
like an antenna

here you can see my building process
first i build the three pipes (these are the hardest parts by the way )
and cut some long paper stripes
then i wrapped one stripe arround at one side first until it fit good into the bigger pipe
you have to test it out how much you need
cut a stripe with the same lenght but don't attach it to the other side

then do the same but at the inside of one of the bigger pipes

now the system should be clear
stick the thin pipe without the attached stripe into the big pipe from the other side until you reach quite the end

then through the second bigger pipe at the side with the attached stripe at the inside

push this also quite to the end
now add the stripe at the thin pipe
and done
sound complicated i know but it's really easy

then add the two red pieces to the staff and the top part
i allready combined them but it's up to you

and step by step the final axe is done

about the sheets:
because this time it's a recolored version
the sheets are coming as pdf
just click download at the top

the original design belongs still to playboy
redesigned and recolored by me

the first part of the big Sinanju model from paper-replika.com
and damn, i expect a lot but not that it will take so ling to build that thing

not because of the size, but i had a few problems with the pieces
frankly, they are not very good designed
maybe, i can only speak on my own because when i design and unfold the pieces i have an other way to do this

anyway, after i finished the shield i finally notice how tall this model will be and i can't wait to see it
but it will be a long way

Dead Space 2 Advanced Suit WIP

playing a little bit around with Meta
until that point it was just a hell of a work
in the first time i ask if he could send me some models from Dead Space after i saw his "Wodden Marker"

but there was a huge problem
the UV map was totally destroyed and i was not able to add some textures

so i had to find an other way
and as you can see, i found it
and now watch out
some real big tipps here

i spend the last three days to find out how to get this model
actually i search in google for some keywords like "dead space isaac clarke elite suit 3d model download" and so on
what i found was a converted model for Garry's Mod

i allready have some mdl (half-life²/source) files but these files are really hard to break
until i found a little tool called "Crafty"
where you can convert the mdl files into obj files without any usage of the huge Source SDK package what the "MDLdecompiler" from Cannonfodder need.

on the same page you can find also a photoshop plugin to open the vtf texture files

i spend the rest of the time to pose the model into the right position

well, about the actual model
it's just huge
at the moment it's about 25.000 polygones
but just because of the whole attachments and little 3d details.

you may ask why i'm doing this?
because still i see no reason why i should pay some money for something what i can do on my own
_{(and it's a little revenge to EA )}

Sinanju Weapon testbuilds

since i made the desicion to rebuild the whole Sinanju model from paper-replika
i thought also about to build some weapons
the problem, even there are exist some in an other Sinanju version from playboy, there is no instruction how to combine all the pieces

well, actually it wasn't really hard, the hardest part was to build them, specially from the axe
but i think the result speaks on it's own, and i hope that these picture help that others can build this cool things too

the next step is to start resize, recolor and rebuild the pieces a bit, that the weapons fit for the big version, some are really ugly designed and very heavy

i printed the sheets on A4
they are white because the sheets are designed for colored paper
the axe is about 40 cm tall
the beam rifle about 30
the sheets are available here

the beam rifle comes on two pages in an extra pdf
you can find the axe at the pages 2,21 and 36
the pieces are declared as A_xx

damn! damn! damn!
as i started this project, i never thought that it will take quite three months to finish

but this whole work with re-coloring from blank sheets to a colored version was totally worth
This Gundam is just badass and to call this a SD (super deformed) version is definitely an understatement

with over 400 sometimes really tiny and complicated pieces, i really can say it's nothing for beginners
you can see it in the building process gallery
and i have to say that too, i printed that thing on A3

the model itself was really cool to build
all pieces fit quite perfect together
sadly, and that's the reason why the model hold the weapon only one time and in that way, the weapon it's not really designed for the model
or rather the hands not for the weapon
the hands are based on one piece which is fold to itself just to get the shape of a hand
so it's really unstable, think about that when you wanna build that model

now then
to the point what you probably all waiting for
and to the sad part
because this time, it's a bit different
the original model as black&white version and a pdo as help file (where i made the screenshot from) is available here
but you need a password
i can't tell you the password here but think about "from where" you download the model, that's all i can say
then my recolored version
normally i ask the owner or designer if i can get the permission to share them ->public<-
but because there is no way for me to contact "panda" i'm not gonna do that
...
by the way

lol, even i said to myself that i wanna buld pure on Meerin
i finished the Avian Defender today
basically the editing wasn't very hard now
the only problem was to edit the single polygones for a little test concept

if you remember (i guess only the first watchers will do this) i had a huge problem with the animal legs from Damarus that time
the model collapsed not only one time and meanwhile i put him on a few stands (i think i will build him again someday )

because the Avian Defender has the same type of legs, i thought about some sort of a inner structure like bamboo to get more stability into this whole thing

hope this is working

it's a very easy model
you start at the front and build to the back
the fins (except the the one at the back) are all flat and you just have to cut a little gap in the model to attach them

the stand is a simple selfmade

that's the reason why i just love this shit so much
and i just knew it would be cool

as i saw this model for, well, meanwhile also over a year ago
i just had to ask sanat49 for it
and i'm very thankfull and proud that he spend his original mesh for a papercraft project

the cool thing about this model is, that it's an entry for the pre-DominanceWar V competition, where i'm also a huge fan of
what made this model, not the first Dominance War Papercraft, but the first downloadable (ironic hint to an other crafter ) and ~~hopefully~~ definetly not my last
...
but that's up to the 3d designer

ok now, back to the model
the last steps, where you have to combine all parts will be exhausting
specially for the big shoulder armor pieces
there is not many space for glue or failures so be patience
test it out first where you can attach the pieces

also you have to put some weight into the rear leg or maybe both
maybe you noticed also that i attach the model a bit displaced at the pedestal
i had to do this because of the weight ratio
it's a lot testing and trying
so don't hurry

but just glue the whole thing at a blank sheet and you have the same effect

difficult level is about 7/10

i'm so happy and exited, this is defenitly one of my favorite models i've made so far
and it turned out so awesome

and it really was about time that this is no done
i had this over a year now on my pc or rather where i ask FirstKeeper for the original model

why this took so long?
just simple, i didn't had the knowledge at this point to edit 3d models in that way that it work
so i had to gain some experience first until i was ready to do this

but the waiting time was worth
this is really an unique model which stands out of my normal fanart pieces
and just to clear this
even it looks like a model from WoW

this is NO fanart

this lich is designed as an OC
and because i just owe her this
i will handle it like that too
that means i will decline every suggestion from a fanart group
i hope you can understand this
i'm not gonna put this in some sort of suitcase
first i thought too that this something from DnD or an other RPG
but she made this model on her own
and she did just an awesome job
it was just a pleasure and also a honor that i had the chance to build this

for all who followed me the last time
you can imagine how happy i am, that this gigantic project is finally done
three months (pure building time) of work are over
it was hard, it was frustrating but all in one
it was just worth

seeing her standing on my desk is just a satisfaction for all the work i put in
quite every edge is recolored to hide the white spots
i put so much soul into this project that i believe
a bit more and this model would jump right from my desk

but enough talking
