Finally it is done. Finally i can sit back and relax!

Bomex Supra. Not a very original choice given my last deviantion was a Do Luck Supra, but they are such sweet cars. Spent a very long time on this one. I was determined to put effort in the harder areas rather than just copping out of it as i have done before. So after many hours work it's done.

A few areas that i really wanted to include as well as possible were the wheels, the lights and the interior and i'm happy with how they came out

I feel pretty spurred on by this and would like to make each piece i create after this better than the last, with a noticable margin. So any criticisms you can provide are very very welcome, however minor you think they are.

Comments are equally welcome, as always.

I'll leave you with a Bomex proverb: "I hope your speed over the rival."

When i first saw this photo i was pretty amazed, it was perfect to toon so i got started right away. Admitadly i was looking for a new model, went through many websites, especially pausing for a look around tunerzine.com where there are many really tempting photos to work with (obviously if you are planning to do this, you probably best had ask the photographers permission ).

I had two things in mind with this piece:

1) No gradients, or as few as possible. I think i ended up with a bit gradiation on the tyres to get them just right.

2) Work with the best when it comes to lighting. Yep with VMaN on board this piece was always going to have some special included. And i'm sure you'll agree, he's done a freaking awesome job Nice one son

I am, as i'm sure most of you are, pretty blown away by what dangeruss has been posting over at his gallery. Obviously it's nice to know he got started with tooning/vectoring cars because of what he'd seen at mine and visua's galleries, but it's cool to have more competition on the site He is pushing me to pull out all the stops and work my arse of just to create something that can be remotely described as good compared to what he is offering. But that's a good thing, i'm not complaining

Apologies for the essay. I clearly had lots to say. I know this piece isn't perfect, i'm sure you can point out all the mistakes, and please do.

Used Shant's fantastic tutorial [link] to get through it. Really struggled with Illustrator, hate not knowing how to do stuff that's so easy in Photoshop! Like simply distorting a circular outline. It seems that you can only resize it. I'm sure i just haven't found the right option, but it gets annoying!
Had fun playing with Gradient Meshes on the light
The car had loads of logos which i was planning to stick on, but i just found them so hard to do. My next effort will be much better

Used Shant's fantastic tutorial [link] to get through it. Really struggled with Illustrator, hate not knowing how to do stuff that's so easy in Photoshop! Like simply distorting a circular outline. It seems that you can only resize it. I'm sure i just haven't found the right option, but it gets annoying!
Had fun playing with Gradient Meshes on the light
The car had loads of logos which i was planning to stick on, but i just found them so hard to do. My next effort will be much better

1.) A remake of my first ever toon - Mitsubishi Evo 7. Not much better. I thought it'd be nice to compare it with the original, but it ended up looking just as bad. Created about 2.5 years ago.
2.) The original version of my early RX7 before i covered it in modifications. Created about 3 years ago.
3.) Modified Nissan Cefiro that i chopped for a competition a while back. Tooned it and used it as my desktop wallpaper for a while. Created about 1.5 years ago.
4.) Toon of a MaxPower-featured Mynheer-modified car. Couldn't do the lights so left them as the ones from the photo. Gave up about 2.5 years ago.
5.) Aston Martin DB4. Gorgeous car, and the toon was coming along quite nicely too. The colouring is pretty much all made up as the photo was quite bad. The rims proved to be too much of a pain though (wire wheels). Gave up 3 months ago.
6.) DeLorean as modified and featured in the film Back To The Future 2. The colouring in the photo was rubbish and i couldn't make anything up that looked good. A way too adventurous project. Far too many little bits and bobs. Gave up 4 months ago.
7.) Modified Renault 5. Lovely car, great kit, cool photo but the colouring once again proved too annoying. Gave up about 6 months ago.

[26th November 06] Reuploaded image with slightly softer outline. Turns out i had two layers with the stroke setting so they were multiplying the edge into a mess.

Q - Why is this tutorial different to the one you had uploaded before?

Q - There are missing sections of text and images, some of the font is terribly small and generally the tutorial looks a bit rubbish. What's going on?

A - I'm sorry that the quality of this tutorial has been lowered. I couldn't simply edit and reupload the original version as deviantART's rules of physical image size have changed in the last 10 months and i had to shrink the whole thing. I didn't put as much effort into changing all the font size as I will hopefully have a whole new version up soon. ]]>
