Uh, yeah. The Gizka Wars raged on silently, behind the scenes, in shoutboxes and chatrooms everywhere. Until this. Until =DarthFar and =WraithTen made the Atrocious Gizka Meme. Sunday Afternoon With Far

Happy Birthday Far! This nefarious comic page actually occured to me two years ago and I've been wanting to paint it for my dear twin ever since. I finally felt confident enough to at least attempt it this year. (I'll admit I cheated on the people; having only pieces of us in the pictures and essentially getting the face shapes from old Far cartoons. I'm still working on getting people right.)

I just got a kick out of the idea of a) giving something pink and frilly to Far for his birthday and b) that pink frilliness hiding something sinister and c) illustrating the great Tom Lehrer's lyrics. I personally find this to be my favorite Lehrer song; I cannot resist anything that refers to ridding the world of squirrels. (Especially the evil glee with which he sings that line). Of course, ever since I started painting this the birds at my feeder have been quite wary. I told them not to worry as none of them are pigeons, but they are still concerned.

Game Crossing

Many of you may know ~Lu-Kout, he's my hubby. He's quiet and unassuming, but what few people know is that he's really, really funny. So we're driving through rural Idaho, and we pass this sign, Game Crossing. I'm looking out for deer, and Jed says..."I don't see any Scrabble." I couldn't get the idea out of my head, so I painted it.

Digital Portal Squares

The ~DigitalPortal club is doing a sort of "quilting bee" where we each take a few squares of lineart and put them together to make one big portrait. We're using [link] by *Katanaz-Stock as our reference. I got one hair square and one skin. I also included the brushes I used.

Can't wait to see what they look like all together.

Merlion-y Christmas

This is Singa. A Christmas gift for =DarthFar, who didn't think what he was getting in the worlds largest envelope was enough. Back in September we had a conversation similar to this:

This year for Christmas, I demand that you paint me a picture with your new tablet.

Yes....Master. You couldn't have asked nicely or anything.

So I had an idea which I scrapped rather early, and as my skills improve I'll bring it up again. But in my really great package in the mail from said Sith Lord, complete with the tablet and dead ants (I got a cockroach for Christmas, too! ) was a curiously white fluffy thing called...a merlion.

How could one not love these things?! SO CUTE. Anyway, my son adopted the fluffy merlion but I'd seen enough to draw one. Unfortunately my attempts at making the real, Singaporean, Asian looking merlion failed and failed. So here we have...an African looking merlion.......ish thing.

As a side note, in a twist of ironic fate, the very realistic-looking coral in this picture is a fractal. Credit for the fractal goes to...=WraithTen. Isn't it a funny world? Tory making fractals and me painting? Surely the end is near.

So Far, I lived up to your demand and drew you something. And now you have something to scare Linda with. I was dying to get your feedback on WIPs. I used Tory instead.

And Tory and all the other gals that helped me out with this, thanks. You did a great job.

This is just a little idea I had while walking with a reluctant four year old to the bus stop in the snow today. You know those stories older people are purported to tell about how things were harder in their day, blah blah? Someone always says "Walked to school in the snow, uphill both ways." Well, for some reason while tuning out some serious whining I tried to imagine just how that was possible. And this is what I came up with!

Abstract! I taught my son's kindergarten class this week about abstract art and fractal art, just a rough overview with some examples. I didn't want to show them only fractals, so I made an abstract painting in GIMP. I really, really like shiny things, and I was trying to figure out what ~nmsmith does to get his effects without actually reading a tutorial. So go easy on me, it's my first abstract painting. But I must say, I like it!

100 Picture Challenge #69: Annoyance

Entry for ~tynmanout's dubious "Turn Natalie into a Squirrel" Contest. Which I'd better win, dangitall.

(Let's kill quite a few squirrels with one stone, shall we? )

For a little background, because I'm sure my regular watchers are now shocked...~tynmanout was teasing me in chat the other day because he knows I don't like squirrels. I don't know why he carried it as far as he did, but he ended up telling everyone in the chatroom he'd give out a sub to the best photomanip or drawing of me as a squirrel. I got kinda steamed but didn't think anything more about it until a couple days later, when I thought, shoot! I could do it, make it sexy, and choke him on his own irony. So I started it. And realized quickly, for the millionth time, that I can't draw worth beans. So I traced my own face and had =DarthFar walk me through painting it (with some awesome tips from *WraithTen ). Now, not only am I not annoyed with Tyler anymore, I actually had fun and learned something!

So to get some things clear: I hate squirrels. I DO NOT have a furry counterpart, and if I did it wouldn't be a squirrel. The only kind of anthro I like is in Disney movies and Lackadaisy comics. I was going to add that I don't paint...but I guess...now I do!

So Ty, HA! And Far, Thank you. And Max, this was WAAAAAAAY out of my comfort zone.

My second attempt at painting! Started waaaaaaaaay before my first, as in, months ago...but recently I started over from scratch and did a lot better. Let me know what you think!

The lineart is =DarthFar's, I only did the colors and the background and stuff. Little did he know when he sketched it out for me, that he'd get a DD on the original. Go check his version out and give it some dA love.

Have you ever seen these Chick-Fil-A advertisements? Well, our dear *WraithTen had the adorable idea to use this campaign for the saving of gizka everywhere! Unfortunately, she included the characteristic misspellings as well, creating a hilarious pun; her darling amphibians want you to eat more cannoks, not more Canucks. Well, =DarthFar and I just couldn't let it go. So here's our answer to Tory's Save a Gizka Campaign.

Public Service Announcement: After some experimentation, we have concluded that Canadians do not taste like maple syrup when licked. Lick a Canadian and risk a puck in the face......

Yes, Far, you told me so! Remember when you drew this for me and told me to color it, and I said...no, I don't think I'll ever paint?! Yeah. Well, I was wrong.

For those that don't get it, these are two of the most misused characters of the Star Wars 'verse. Carth, and Atton, respectively. In the game, we use them to soak up blaster bolts and as posts to hide behind in a fight. Out of the game, they get mauled by fangirls and artists alike. The girls want their jackets and their very lives...and Far draws them getting skewered, eaten, shot, stabbed, in compromising positions, and with gizka all over them.

Well, guys, they won't take it anymore!
