This work began life as a pencil sketch, which was later scanned and coloured in digitally. Eventually I forgot about it but revived it in a different form for the Chinese Year of the Snake. <br /><br />Takng a page out of ~<a class="u" href="http://folderol.deviantart.com">folderol</a>'s gallery, the outline of Serperior is cut out from a single piece of dark blue paper. The layers of patterns are actually glued onto the outline, rather than the background, so you could pick up Serperior like a gift tag. A light sepia filter was placed using Photoshop to spruce up the plain white background. The stork's wing is pasted on a wheel, so it rotates ever so slightly as it opens, and it gives a neat 3D effect. I'm pretty nervous and excited about it as this is my first (and possibly last) time running a booth at a convention.<br /><br />I'm not sure how well Pokémon merchandise sells, so I'm sticking to more familiar old school 'mons for now. I added Totoro and Calcifer in for some variation, and they turned out to be the most time-consuming to make. I had several wild ideas for a card, including one with a 3D Magikarp, but decided on a more serious design. I maintained a subtle reference to Pokemon, though most people wouldn't catch it unless they were a fan.<br /><br />The mechanism for this card is very simple, but boggles the mind when first seen. The mechanism twists when opened, and is something you need to see firsthand to understand what I mean. (I've included a still shot of the card as it opens.) I dug the totem pole influence and the Sumiyoshi Kizuki illustration for it in the TCG made me love it even more. It's a pity that it's so useless in actual battles though.<br /><br />This card's mechanism is the same as <a href="http://endless-whispers.deviantart.com/art/Hey-there-hug-me-211911283?q=gallery%3Aendless-whispers&amp;qo=2">this Reuniclus</a>, with the addition of a simple mechanism for the beak and head feathers (which aren't visible from the front). I dug the totem pole influence and the Sumiyoshi Kizuki illustration for it in the TCG made me love it even more. It's really a late entry for Halloween...<br /><br />As a deviation from its more cartoony official art, I imagine Jellicent to be translucent and bioluminiscent, living in the deep sea and feeding off the souls of the drowned. (No kidding about the last part, its Japanese dex entry does mention it.)<br /><br />This pic only uses 4 colours (not counting the background), probably the smallest palette of colours that I have worked with. The variation of tone was achieved by manipulating the opacity of brushes, which also created the translucent effect. <br /><br />I aimed for a pose which would draw the attention away from its Pringles Man moustache, and in a more 'nature documentary' type shot.<br /><br />P.S. Is anyone reminded of the King Jellyfish episode from Spongebob when they see Jellicent? Although I never got around to playing any of the Zelda games, I am familiar with the Wind Waker and decided to give a shot converting it to pop-up form.<br /><br /><b>Design Notes:</b><br />I used a pop-up book (20K Leagues Under The Sea) for reference, although there are a few variations of making pop-up ships that can be found online. This is actually the 2nd card I made  making the first card was a tricky process as the design and measurements started out from scratch. As I was finishing up the first card (which looked a little messy but otherwise OK), a mistake in gluing led to a huge crease in the card. Luckily, I still had enough materials to make a duplicate. The second card turned out much neater since I knew pretty much what to do and what to avoid. <br /><br />This card combines several simple pop-up mechanisms, and was very satisfying to make. Arguably the trickiest (and most fun) part of making the card was getting the figurehead to look the same on both sides. <br /><br />If youre wondering wheres Link, I was tempted to add him in, but I was running out of time. Ill attempt adding him in if I ever make this card again. The picture at the bottom-right is the cards cover. I don&#039;t take to Water-types much, but he&#039;s a hideously fast attacker in the games. The thing is, Vileplume isn&#039;t exactly the most mobile of Pok&#233;mon, so the best thing it can do is remain stationary in battle and pump out toxic powders. Drawing grass and wood are <i>serious</i> headache inducers, but I cheated a bit, using the really dark atmosphere to gloss over details <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/winkrazz.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=";P" title="Wink/Razz" />.<br /><br /><br /><br /><sub>EDIT: I had to &#039;brighten&#039; up the pic as too many details couldn&#039;t be seen. Omastar could possibly be one of the most overlooked Pokemon - I myself never trained one in my games, and it only got a holographic rarity once in the entire history of the Pokemon TCG. For this picture, I took the liberty of adding an extra set of teeth to make it more menacing.<br />

Froslass sorta embodies two of my favourite holidays - Halloween and Christmas. No, I actually don&#039;t celebrate Halloween, and no, my country does not have four seasons, but you get the point, right?<br />

I like Froslass&#039;s yuki-onna design, complete with the obi and arms sticking on the head deal. I figured Nintendo would come with this idea for a Ghost-Ice type combo anyway.<br />
<br />
This has to be one of my most original ideas for a long, long time. The idea here is Froslass is in a desolate tundra, casting an icy spell of some sort...I worked on Froslass without actually thinking of a background, then got stuck when I actually <i>needed</i> a background to complete the picture...hey, it happens to everybody, right?             <description><![CDATA[ This is actually a sketch that I made months ago before I entered uni. Froslass sorta embodies two of my favourite holidays - Halloween and Christmas. No, I actually don&#039;t celebrate Halloween, and no, my country does not have four seasons, but you get the point, right?<br />

I like Froslass&#039;s yuki-onna design, complete with the obi and arms sticking on the head deal. I figured Nintendo would come with this idea for a Ghost-Ice type combo anyway.<br />
<br />
This has to be one of my most original ideas for a long, long time. The idea here is Froslass is in a desolate tundra, casting an icy spell of some sort...I worked on Froslass without actually thinking of a background, then got stuck when I actually <i>needed</i> a background to complete the picture...hey, it happens to everybody, right? This picture was completed about 3 weeks ago, but I never got the time to upload it here. Although I took my time with this pic (I worked on the subject and the background in two seperate files), I nonetheless really rushed to finish this pic, staying up till 3 a.m. in the morning to add in the background. Due to all the rushing though, I never got to finish the ground, the one part I am not satisfied with <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/f/frown.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=":(" title=":( (Sad)" />.<br />

Anyways, these characters are from a comic called &#039;Lawak Kampus&#039;, one comic I actually read for its slapstick jokes. I used reference for the schoolbus, which is different from the Western schoolbuses...I&#039;m awful at drawing technical stuff <img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/d/doh.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=":doh:" title="Doh!" />.<br />
