Takng a page out of ~folderol's gallery, the outline of Serperior is cut out from a single piece of dark blue paper. The layers of patterns are actually glued onto the outline, rather than the background, so you could pick up Serperior like a gift tag. A light sepia filter was placed using Photoshop to spruce up the plain white background. I should practise using the X-acto knife more often - a lot of edges came out jagged and the lines aren't uniform in thickness. ]]>

A pop-up card made for a friend who's apparently a fan of fish. I had several wild ideas for a card, including one with a 3D Magikarp, but decided on a more serious design. I maintained a subtle reference to Pokemon, though most people wouldn't catch it unless they were a fan.

The mechanism for this card is very simple, but boggles the mind when first seen. The mechanism twists when opened, and is something you need to see firsthand to understand what I mean. It's quite difficult for me to imagine Vespiquen as a cheerful, benevolent Pokémon, but I think I pulled it off. Both Combee and Vespiquen are quite overlooked, but I love the fact that Vespiquen has 3 signature moves, all to do with ordering minions to do its whims

I actually didn't know I did commissions. It was a request and I agreed to it. I'm glad I did though! The commissioner was specific, yet flexible in what he wanted (really helpful for me) and was incredibly patient in waiting for it to be finished as well It was an interesting experience for me! ]]> e6life.

Xatu was one of my favourite Pokemon back in the GSC era. I dug the totem pole influence and the Sumiyoshi Kizuki illustration for it in the TCG made me love it even more. It's a pity that it's so useless in actual battles though.

There's an explantion for that messy line running down the middle of the card: When gluing a whole piece of paper on top of another card, it usually results in large creases when the card is folded. I followed advice from a website on how to avoid that, and cut the paper into half and glued the two halves separately. It didn't crease, but left a nasty line where the paper was separated. I'll work on being neater so as to eliminate that line in the future... ]]> Kureculari.

As a deviation from its more cartoony official art, I imagine Jellicent to be translucent and bioluminiscent, living in the deep sea and feeding off the souls of the drowned. (No kidding about the last part, its Japanese dex entry does mention it.)

This pic only uses 4 colours (not counting the background), probably the smallest palette of colours that I have worked with. The variation of tone was achieved by manipulating the opacity of brushes, which also created the translucent effect.

I aimed for a pose which would draw the attention away from its Pringles Man moustache, and in a more 'nature documentary' type shot.

P.S. Is anyone reminded of the King Jellyfish episode from Spongebob when they see Jellicent? Or maybe it's just me... ]]>

Design Notes:

The doors on the fridge, toaster oven and washing machine formes can be opened to reveal messages. The propeller on the fan works the same way. My favourite is the lawnmower - you have to pull down its mouth in order to reveal the message. ]]>

The new Sinnoh Frontier Brains from Pokémon Platinum - I drew this picture sometime back when the first fuzzy images of the Sinnoh Frontier Brains were first released. Thankfully, Bulbapedia displayed the official art in its higher-resolution glory a few days later.

Anyways...the Battle Frontier was my favourite feature in Pokémon Emerald, with the unique gameplay and almost impossible defeat-in-a-row battles. So I’m glad they brought it back to Pokémon Platinum, along with spiffy-looking designs for the Frontier Brains. (Most of the Hoenn Frontier Brains’ designs didn’t really go down well with me...especially Brandon and Spenser)

These Brains were really fun to draw since they had rather unique characteristics. I especially enjoyed drawing Dahlia’s hair and Nejiki's sleepy eyes!

Just for fun, who's your favourite Sinnoh Frontier Brain? I'm not telling you mine, though !

Since Vileplume is usually associated with darkness (Elite Four Karen uses one anyway), so I decided to go with a green-black theme. The thing is, Vileplume isn't exactly the most mobile of Pokémon, so the best thing it can do is remain stationary in battle and pump out toxic powders. Drawing grass and wood are serious headache inducers, but I cheated a bit, using the really dark atmosphere to gloss over details .

Possibly my bravest attempt at water so far. It actually looks like its flowing ! ]]>

I like Froslass's yuki-onna design, complete with the obi and arms sticking on the head deal. I figured Nintendo would come with this idea for a Ghost-Ice type combo anyway.

This has to be one of my most original ideas for a long, long time. The idea here is Froslass is in a desolate tundra, casting an icy spell of some sort...I worked on Froslass without actually thinking of a background, then got stuck when I actually needed a background to complete the picture...hey, it happens to everybody, right? The original picture actually has two trees in the background, but it got scrapped last minute when I realised I drew really, really ugly trees. ]]>

This picture was completed about 3 weeks ago, but I never got the time to upload it here. Although I took my time with this pic (I worked on the subject and the background in two seperate files), I nonetheless really rushed to finish this pic, staying up till 3 a.m. in the morning to add in the background. Due to all the rushing though, I never got to finish the ground, the one part I am not satisfied with .

Anyways, these characters are from a comic called 'Lawak Kampus', one comic I actually read for its slapstick jokes. I used reference for the schoolbus, which is different from the Western schoolbuses...I'm awful at drawing technical stuff .
