...I can write it honestly: portraits are the most difficult manipulations. I had to pay attention to every detail... And her hair was the worst part (I was redoing it three times and finally left this version). I really enjoyed putting together the background and repainting her mask, gloves and corset, though. And working with textures (even if it isn't visible now as I blurred the background ) is a really nice experience, maybe in the future I'll try to use them even more.

I pondered for some time if this is how I'd sum this one up. It's a very personal piece as there have been many changes in my life and mood and the way I perceive different things. I needed to get it out somehow. I'm trying to learn to be honest with myself and express more what I really feel. So, coming back to the quote, yeah, I guess it suits best. These days I just feel as if I was in the middle of a storm. Like there was nothing but dejection, uncertainty and doubts. Like some matters I tried to drown out were coming back. I thought I had dealt with them and was quite surprised they turned up. When I think about it right now, maybe it was just a denial, pushing the emotions back instead of feeling and expressing them, as they were natural responses to what was happening inside of me. And now what's left is just like chaos. Yet I hope that something will be born out of it. Maybe I'll need to change many things again. Again and again. I need some time for sure. Maybe next time when I look in the mirror, I'll find what I've been looking for and maybe hope in my eyes and honest smile on my lips.

Plus I couldn't help but keep browsing ~Burtn's stock photos. They're beyond amazing!

Whenever I envisage a lonely man standing on top of a mountain, I think about romanticism. It reminds me of Shelley's "Frankenstein" and the moment when Victor wanders away into the mountains. Then some of Polish leading authors of that period spring to my mind, like Mickiewicz or Slowacki. Especially the crucial scene from Slowacki's "Kordian" when the main character is standing on Mont Blanc comes to my mind and his soliloquises about life and his disappointments.
And now far from romanticism is Goethe. Thus, a fragment of his most well-known "The Sorrows of Young Werther" is also present, on the sheet in the foreground:

And why should I be ashamed in the terrible moment when my entire being trembles between being and nothingness, since the past flashes like lightning above the dark abyss of the future and everything around me is swallowed up, and the world perishes with me? Is that not the voice of the creature thrown back on itself, failing, trapped, lost, and inexorably tumbling downward, the voice groaning in the inner depths of its vainly upwards-struggling energies: My God! My God! Why hast thou forsaken me?


I was trying to give my best and focus on the mood of this one. That's why the contrast is quite strong. I hope that it worked.

Anyway, the main idea is how music captures our imagination, how it makes us think of some places, creates new, imaginary worlds... How we come up with various ideas when listening to it. At least music has always been a great inspiration for me... I can't imagine life without it


It's a little bit experimental one, yet I hope you'll like it. I'm still trying to improve doing lighting in my works, maybe one day I'll finally be entirely happy with the result

Anyway, the main idea is how music captures our imagination, how it makes us think of some places, creates new, imaginary worlds... How we come up with various ideas when listening to it. At least music has always been a great inspiration for me... I can't imagine life without it


It's a little bit experimental one, yet I hope you'll like it. I'm still trying to improve doing lighting in my works, maybe one day I'll finally be entirely happy with the result
And... I made my signature a bit larger as quite recently I've discovered that even people on photobucket or facebook upload my work on their accounts...

Oh, so I haven't mentioned that I don't usually lose at chess, sweetheart?

Imagine it or not, but I've had this idea for over six months... I just couldn't find proper stocks to finish it! Then I stumbled across ~rangercookiestock's wonderful stock for the female model and I was so happy that I thought it was high time for me to try to repaint and texturise the boat on my own (finding a good boat stock was impossible ). So I did as I thought and here we've got a mixture of this: [link] stock, some parts of gondola, some of my painting and wood textures. Anyway, getting it right was one of the hardest part when doing this image

And as I was doing this one with a clear vision of how I would like it to look like, I had *SilEnigmaArts in mind.
She always amazes me with very original and unexpected concepts along with good stories behind her works. I've noticed that she's always determined to get the result she wants... And all her effort always pays off with a new impressive work.


I was about to give up a thousand times when doing this piece. But then I'd catch myself on thinking about some details or looking randomly on some stocks which could be useful for it.
Sometimes I thought of the determination and effort we must put to some certain things, of how much heart or nerves it sometimes requires not to surrender, to carry on. Or how much persistence and patience it all needs. I guess it's what helps people to improve.


So... I would like to dedicate this piece to for her art and being a sort of example for me as for the patience... And also for all her kind support!
I know this one's still not perfect, that there are things which should be improved... But maybe I'll be able to do them with the time when and if I get better in the future. I tried to do my best, hope you'll like it anyway

It's been my biggest break in photomanipulating since I actually got hooked on it, so something like 4 years. I even started wondering if I could make anything new again...
Anyway, here is what I came up with last weekend. I don't have time to do anything more complex for the time being, yet somehow I thought it just wouldn't feel right to leave this one alone on my hard disk.
Okay. I know it's clichéd, don't tell me about it. However there is something about creating those dark 'gothic lady in a black dress' works that just helps to vent negative feelings. Really.
I also do promise to come up with the 'Melody of Joy', just to keep the balance and get away from all of this doom and gloom.

The lake was said to be magical.
It was a huge deep lake in the shape of the crescent. Honestly, it was one of the biggest and was often claimed to be the deepest in the faraway North. The lake seemed to be like a capricious young woman. There were rare days when it was calm and gentle, its crystal clear depths constituting a breathtaking view. On such days the lake would entice fishermen to get onboard their wooden boats and catch as many pikes and sheatfish as their small ships would hold. The other days it would rage in a fury, its waves splashing furiously against the rocky shore.


Then the elders would say that the daughter of the lake is longing and weeping for her love lost.
As it happens with most magical lakes, this one also had its own legend. The legend was a story of a beautiful young mermaid called Luned and her lover. Let’s start from the very beginning.


Luned was a mermaid. At night she and her brothers and sisters were playing their deceptive games with weary travellers upon moonlit nights causing them drown in the lake and coastal swamps. As a typical mermaid her body was green and slimy, her big eyes yellow and lustrous. During the day she could become a human being. Most merfolk felt reluctant to change as they felt safer below the water’s surface, yet Luned would change every morning.

The legend began after she met Lein. It was the first day of summer and Luned, as usual, was bathing very close to the coast and it was here she first met Lein. They immediately fell in love and Lein became a frequent visitor to the lake. He desired to set off on a long journey to take Luned far away from the crescent-shaped depths. Luned could not leave the lake. As a mermaid she was bound to live in the water. Besides she was afraid that Lein would abandon her as soon as he discovered her true nature and appearance.

The days were passing, sweet as dreams for both of them, as they sauntered, for many hours along the lake’s shore, hand in hand. Luned lied to her lover by saying that she was a water nymph and that she had to stay near the lake or else she would die. She also had to spend her nights in the lake. He accepted this and declared his love for her. He whispered heatedly that he would never leave her and would always wait to meet her with the first rays of the morning sun, treating each day as a miracle and gift.

Luned asked the lake numerous times to give her a human body. Her mermaid nature was the source of constant woe and misery for her. It did not let her feel completely happy and honest in her love to Lein. One day she heard a deep calm voice in her head. The Lake was telling her that she had suffered enough and from now on her mother, the Lake, was giving her a human shape forever. She immediately felt that something strange was happening to her body, she could no longer breathe underwater. She swam to the shore and started taking breaths rapidly, cool night air filling her lungs. It was then when she realized with excitement that her prayers were answered. She danced joyfully on the grass. She rushed quickly toward the tiny wooden barrack where Lein lived; however, she found the place deserted. Lein had packed all his belongings and was gone. He left her just a short letter saying that he had chosen a different path and begged her to forgive him. He had to go. The world was calling him and nothing could possibly make him linger any longer. There were fresh traces of hooves leading to the southern route through the nearby forest. Feeling angry and betrayed, she followed the tracks. Suddenly she heard a grisly scream and broke into a frantic run. But it was too late. Her brothers and sisters, merfolk, had already had their fun. She found Lein floating in the water, dead. In tears she drew his body out of the water. The merfolk, invisible and hidden from her new human eyes, were taunting Luned for her love of the poor, stupid man. They detested her for the betrayal of her own race.


The elders would say that even now when the Lake starts raging, the first waves splashing with fury against the coastal rocks, you can see Luned sitting on one of the rocks, staring blankly into its depths.
Some say that she is praying to the Lake to take her eternally young human body and soul as she is no longer willing to live. The others say it is just her ghost as she had died a few days after Lein's death out of sorrow and grief.
Who knows what the truth is, but in the fullness of time maybe the truth will be revealed to us.

So... It's been a bit since I last uploaded something new... The end of the term and the vision of upcoming examination session leave me really little time.
But somehow I managed to finish this one... And honestly it's just 'thanks' to the stomach flu I caught on Tuesday -.-
Right now I'm slowly recovering... Started eating something (at last )...


I've had some fun with this one, I played around with how to create patterns on the fabrics and I've got to admit it's addictive and pleasurable By the way, I would like to recommend you the following tutorial if you're interested in the effect: [link]

Forest Dream Meaning

Up till now I haven't really thought that the forest from my dreams or works might be interpreted in this way. However now it seems to be quite logical and even obvious that it might also be perceived as a symbol of the unconscious...
I've always associated forest with some difficulties, hardships appearing in life or, on the contrary, as the place of solitude and safety, far away from problems.
All of that combined with that fragment of interpretation from dreamsleep.net and Freud's theory (especially the one dealing with creativity and artists) make it right now even more intriguing and reflective.
I've browsed through my works quickly trying to analyse them from that more psychological point of view. Have you ever tried the same? At times I'll catch myself thinking what would a psychiatrist say if he saw my works. What kind of person would he think me to be?

Anyway, it turns out that this is my most optimistic piece so far. Most fairytale-like. And there is no bitterness, no sorrow, no "suffering lady in a black dress" (this time, beware! ).

I do hope that you'll like it.
As usually I turn on that critique mode.

It may seem to be a bit dark, the subject and emotions even unnecessarily tragic. You may wonder why the woman wears a blindfold while roving at night in a beautiful forest.
Actually I'm really curious what your interpretations of this work are and would truly appreciate if you could tell me what were your first thoughts when you saw it

And... (as usually ) I was trying to smuggle some symbolic meaning to this one (blah... you know... path, forest, light/night...).


At times it happens so that sorrow, fear, regret, self-destructive and depressive thoughts make us wear such a blindfold, make us blind to the beauty around us, take away joy and will to live. At times we feel as if we were wandering through the dark forest, alone, vulnerable to harm, defenceless.
Such a state can make one's life truly miserable, it may become the source of diseases, depressions, neurosis, in some extreme cases (but these days maybe I shouldn't call it uncommon?) it can lead to suicide.

We're walking this path of our life, each day just another nightmare, finding nothing more but night and darkness around us.

However we still carry on. Either because we can't do anything to help ourselves, just waiting passively for either a miracle or tragedy to come or... because, after all, there is still something hidden deeply in our hearts that can help us survive even the darkest days. Hope. Hope for getting out of the misery, of starting a new life, of finding someone who will make it worth living, for finding new passions and friends that would change it, bring you back happiness, laughter.
Maybe it's a bit banal, but the most obvious truths are always that simple and perhaps that's why we ignore and underrate them.

But what I was trying to say with this one is that one can't give up.

So I'd like to wish you... May you always believe that there is a new day to come. May you always believe that there is still some light, maybe you're even holding it in your own hands, following it intuitively?
And one last thing... As I've always appreciated nature... Just at times look around and see all of the beauty surrounding you. Maybe you'll also come to think that even if the whole life sucks, it's still worth living for its beauty, to see sunrises, sunsets and starry nights, to see lush plants and flowers, to appreciate vivid colours around you. They're always somewhere around us, unnoticed, still waiting to be discovered.
Again something commonplace... but somehow I'd like to write it here as once I was undergoing such a harsh period...
I would like to wish you to find peace and happiness in your life

I hope that it all hasn't sounded like a sermon or something of this kind And that you've survived the banality behind all these words... Yet still... as my friend says "express and do not repress yourself "

Ire

They call her Ire. She's the third daughter of Darkness, an angel of destruction, angel who flames anger and hatred in hearts of people. She's associated with the fire, sword and snakes, Alēktṓ and Mégaira. And bloody red roses. The only thing that she would never destroy are her beloved red roses.
People say it's because they remind her so much of blood and fire. The other say it was her lover who was always giving her these red flowers. He died later on. But since then she would but only weep over the beauty of red roses.
But undoubtedly these are only myths... Idle people's hopes and fantasies.
Or maybe there is a grain of truth in every tale?
May you never meet Ire, see her destructive powers and feel her wrath.

I've been analysing my gallery a bit. While browsing further and further I suddenly realized I had neglected awfully one of the elements, namely the fire... Generally I'm more into blue/green colour scheme, but this time I wanted to do something different.

Here's the result. Okay, you can tell me that still it's that mundane dark/gothic stuff and it's not really out of the box. And that there are plenty of other works depicting angels and fire. I know. But I really enjoyed playing around with fire and red/orange colours. It was challenging cause the lighting and shadows in such works are a bit hard to create... I'd say they simply require being more decisive and not afraid of letting the lighting be stronger than normally.
It's up to you to judge If I managed to meet the challenge.

As usually I leave the critique mode on as I'm always open for your suggestions and constructive critique.

It's the reflection of the trees in the pond and when I turned it vertically I realized that it looked a way more interesting and a bit surrealistic.

And about the title... When I start manipulating something, I usually create a new folder and name it randomly. Mostly the folders' titles are really absurd, sometimes it's a few words from a song I'm currently listening to... I remember I was listening to "Unleashed" (Epica's track from their new album "Design Your Universe") and I heard "No regret" (Released my soul forever, I'll have no regret to be free) and used it firstly for the folder's name. I know in the lyric it's in a different context... but then I thought I could use this verse for this manip's title as well.
I wanted her to be a newly born vampire (but, please, it's got nothing to do with "Twilight" series, it's all inspired by Anne Rice), so that's why she still hasn't got long fangs. Anyway she's just committed her first murder :F

Something in a more autumnal mood, hope you'll like it



It's for #DevNews September contest.
I tried to put as many autumnal symbols as I could So, when thinking of autumn, I instantly imagine a sunny, warm day... The sun is shining lazily, the nature is calm. All trees around have colourful leaves, some of them have already fallen down. The green of the grass is fading, it's turning slowly into yellow.

And, somehow, autumn makes me think of witches. Maybe simply because of Halloween? Or maybe because in the past Autumn was associated with a kind of mystic rituals connected with the end of nature's cycle, withering of plants and Samhain?
Anyway, a little bit of Halloween-touch doesn't bother, I hope, as in September such beings as witches, for example, need to prepare well for the upcoming festivity, don't they?

And a little bit of a personal detail: a rowan. I remember rowan trees, which were lined up on one side of the road to my primary school... They always turn this bright red in September...

Something in a more autumnal mood, hope you'll like it



It's for #DevNews September contest.

All in all I can't look at this anymore. It was completed for more than a week, but whenever I looked at it I had to redo something. I'm still afraid it's too dark, but if I lighten it a little more it'll look terribly on my screen, sorry.
I think that this one could have many interpretations, I'm curious what's yours.
A few of my thoughts: I'm a little mad about contrasts in life. Especially when it comes to mood swings and wars inside us. Sometimes emotions could become too conflicted, sometimes there's a feeling of being lost. The other situation when we have to choose between two important matters and couldn't decide.
I think that the main idea came to my mind while listening "Two Sides" and "My Choice" performed by After Forever. Such beautiful tracks
I hope you can also find your own interpretation of this one.

Was she going to die now, at the Valley of Death? And what about her mission?
The phantom seemed to read her mind.
"You failed, failed like the others. Like me. And you knew, the price will be high..."
She broke and started crying silently.
And then, the woman heard paces. And suddenly it occurred to her, who was coming.
"Is it painful, Lily? Is death painful?" she whispered, horrified.
The torches flamed up. Eerie, blue light flickered on the arcades. The woman thought, that Lily wouldn't answer. But then, she heard her trembling voice.
"No."
The woman didn't believe. She was aghast, waiting there, on an earthy, dirty floor, bleeding and praying to gods. May it all end promptly.

Finally
Recently I've been experimenting a little bit. And as I read more tutorials, I found out many useful things, for instance: [link]
I thought: why not? Firstly it was really strange to create a displacement map, but the tutorial made me to reach the end and see the result. And so it's the first time I've ever created water in photoshop without any photos, just with its different options. It's weird, but for sure I'll try it again; maybe this time just with a scenery manipulation.

The most important part of it:

In truth, an evil wizard Rothbart has cast a spell on Odette, keeping her captive at a lake in the woods. Although she is technically free to leave the grounds whenever she likes, as soon as moonlight leaves the lake, she transforms into a swan. In order to become human again, Odette has to be on the lake itself, and moonlight has to touch her wings. Rothbart explains that he wants to legally take over William's (father of Odette) kingdom by marrying Odette. Every night Rothbart visits her to ask her to marry him, and every night she says "I'll die first."

So, what's my interpretation of the theme?
We always look for feelings of being safe, happy and loved. We look for a shelter in which we could hide from the world's wrong, from sadness, and also in some the worst cases, from hate and violence. It could be our families, friends, hobby or imagination what make us feel better, recover and be happy again. We could try to fight all hatred with these values or just let, for instance, our friends to comfort us in bad moments. Even if feud seems to be all around, overwhelming us, we cannot give up.

In my vision I wanted to create such a safe place. I put there many flowers and plants, as I always associate peace with being close to nature. Next elements are optimistic colours, swans (here a symbol of love), a woman playing on a flute, soap bubbles (which reminds me of childhood). The mountains far away from the girl (as maybe you've already guessed) are meant to be a symbol of all nasty moments, of bitterness and hate in her life.
That's just the beginning, a general outline for this work's interpretation. Feel free to write your ideas

I've also never done such an optimistic work (although doing this one wasn't so optimistic at all. I feel somehow strange when I look at this one ). I was thinking about giving it up for about ten times at least, but somehow I've managed to complete it.
