        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[  Shells clattered against the sidewalk, echoing through the empty streets as bullet after bullet lodged within the undead creature. The sixth that had crossed my path today, a new record for this time of Fall. Normally, they only took one clean shot to the head to go down, but with my aim, it was best not to count on that, which was unfortunate since my ammunition money was long gone, and today I was going through bullets quicker than ever.<br />	The zombie hit the floor with the weight of a dead tree as I pulled the trigger one more time. After a few nervous moments the body had stopped writhing and twitching in that way that always makes me unco ]]></media:text>

Like I said, it's a work in progress, but I really need to upload something since I failed at posting anything in January. I hope my internet output is stronger this month to make up for it. <br /><br />I have already written six short chapters for this (which is only up to the first fight with Aghanim) but I need to expand and revise those chapters even more than the first. <br /><br />This first chapter is more like a prologue or introduction than the real first chapter (which deals with actually playing the game). <br /><br />I am not sure how writing like this will be interpreted or accepted but here it is. In fact, I think I will.<br /><br />It was my seventh grade school year. Like most children my age, I hated school. I went to a particularly terrible one at that, so anything closing in on intellectual stimulation was sparse. The lack of quality in late nineties Los Angeles public schools is another topic though. When having to do something under a specific limit of words (this contest was 100 words or less, I clocked in at 94) it is really stifling at first, but after a few redrafts I noticed that I didn't need so many words to begin with. Such is the power of editing.<br /><br />I am just one of about 40 entries, so this should be some stiff competition. ]]></media:description>

From there the idea coalesced into a demon, and that demon has to do something, so why not destroy all space and time in our universe?<br /><br />After writing this, it became clear I had some inspiration from CS Lewis. I doubt I captured any of his finesse or descriptive skill (will probably be a good long while before I could ever say that). This was done for a quick 15 minute writing exercise, but I ended up going overtime, and then giving it a once over to make a few corrections, and make things clearer or more succinct. <br /><br />Well I know I titled this 'Fight Scene' but this is a first person story about getting beaten up. I wonder what a psychologist would think if he read it. Well anyway, I think it was really interesting to just dig into the mind of someone for just one intense moment, and see how well I could describe how it feels. As with anything I write, I am happy with it now, but I am sure there will be some glaring mistakes that let themselves be known come sunrise. ]]></media:description>

The type who is more interested in telling a joke than telling the truth perhaps. <br /><br />As for Harold. He is kind of the foil to Gloria. He rambles when he is nervous, and always holds that old hat in his hands as well. <br /><br />I don't have a lot more to say about this piece. He seemed a little too bitter in his initial creation, I hope to keep him that way, but decided to show that when he interacts with people he let's slip a little of his old ways. I love writing in this style. I'm not sure if it is overly cliched though, or if I simply have a knack for this kind of writing. Perhaps it is neither though. I do hope it is a good read though. That's about all I have to say for this piece.<br /><br />Oh, also, the title comes from the lyrics to a Tom Waits song called <a href="http://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvMy1xOh6cw" class="external">Clap Hands</a> from his 1985 album Rain Dogs. The bar was empty, save for the bartender, a handful of the regular boozehounds that frequent any bar as they have for years since falling into their stupor, and, of course, I. I am also happy that this one is a bit longer than part one as well (twice as long in fact, but twice as long as 200 words isn't saying much).<br /><br />Bit I am having quite the bit of trouble to put myself in the shoes of a middle school reader. I don't want to be the obnoxious writer I am now with all my stupid college level words no one actually uses. But at the same time I don't want to dumb it down to a point of insulting a young reader.<br /><br />I also need to look up a tutorial about how to write a story with a lot of spoken dialogue. If anyone knows a great book or site online about writing in different styles and what to do and what to avoid, that would be very appreciated! ]]></media:description>

I started with the idea of being stranded in a boat. From there I considered who would be in that boat. I ended up with these two characters. Jack and Brian. I want to explain these characters more, but since having come up with them I am pretty interested in their adventures. Hopefully I can reveal more of their personality in future pieces. <br /><br />All I want to state right now is that this story is set in the 1930's and Jack is 21, while Brian is 10. <br /><br />More to the writing aspect of this piece. I decided to go for something more childlike in my writing. I think I may still be a little too verbose for a story I imagine would be aimed at kids around middle school age. It's interesting that this started as a set piece, with the boat being stranded, but turned into a character piece in my mind after deciding who to put in that boat. I also think that was a fun way to come up with a story, with just a scenario.<br /><br />That's about all I have to say for this piece I believe.<br /><br />PS. Though Jack didn't know the first thing in this situation, his panic compelled him to fight and paddle the small boat against the upheaval of the open sea. Whether this struggle went on for moments or hours, Jack could not say. All he knew is that this small boat could not be overturned. If not for him, than for the small ward that had suddenly been left in his charge.<br /><br />The darkness slowly gave way to the morning sun. The rising light also brought young Brian back from his deep slumber. His eyes did not take to the sun too kindly as he blurrily took in the all too bright e ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ We quickly worked our way through the din of buildings. We kept up our almost sprint like pace for what seemed like hours, but could have taken mere moments. The buildings became sporadic, replaced by the ever growing grove of trees. At last we allowed ourselves to regain some composure. I paused for breath, but as quickly as I could think of such comfort my sight was arrested by a faint figure looming over the treetops.<br /><br />No movement was made by our party as this ghostly figure floated seamlessly across the treeline. Quite a chunk of thought went into that short sentence (and that was all you could muster? Wow). To the point, I've gone through an interesting change recently. I have become one of those people who calls themselves a 'writer'. Surprisingly, I have also inherited all the snark (douchebaggery) and pomp (big-headedness) that are attributed to the title. Not to mention I have no money. Looks like I got this writing business down quite well.<br /><br />Basically though, I was thinking about writing as a form of art. Although game wise I don't even know what the objective of this particular scene is. I imagine it is like a puzzle game with different random objectives each round. <br /><br />This round probably has you running around the room hitting the right buttons and talking to the right people so that the space shuttle launches smoothly.
