This is an idea I've been toying with for a while, but never gotten around to doing 'til now... to redo the Sin City posters with Disney Princesses.

When the idea came to me, I just thought it was too great a concept not to do... just hadn't got around to it for a while. BUT, now I have, finally, and I started with Sin City's most obvious front runner: Nancy.

I chose Ariel for two reasons: 1) Nancy keeps her legs together in her poster, so it worked well with Ariel's tail, and 2) I think we all know that under Ariel's wide-eyed, innocent exterior... she always had that wild streak in her that showed there was a good chance she'd grow up to be a stripper... I mean what kind of girl wears a seashell bra in open public? I ask you!

I originally didn't know if I wanted to finish them all, then post them together, or post them all as I did them... but once i finished the 1st two, I liked them so much that couldn't hold it anymore, so I had to post them. Stay tuned for #2 shortly, and 4 more to come in the next few days.

I chose Aurora, whom you may be more familiar with as Sleeping Beauty, for Goldie... mostly because... I needed a blonde, which narrowed it down to her and Cinderella... and I thought Cinderella needed to be a bigger character than Goldie... so Aurora got this role by default. I did this one second because it's my least favorite of the six posters I'm doing, so I wanted to force myself to get it out of the way, BUT, on the bright side, it turned out better than I ever would have hoped it would... so now I don't dislike it so much anymore.

This particular one was actually quite the pain in the ass... mostly because I discovered in doing it that it's almost impossible to find a referance picture of a Disney Princess facing straight forward. They almost always have their head turned slightly to one side or the other. That said, I had hoped to finish a fourth today, but I don't know if I'll get it done now, because between the problemetic head, and the fact that she's almost a full-body drawing, this one took longer than I expected it too.

Even though my sister kept insisting I use Snow White as Miho, because Snow White and Devon Aoki have a strong resemblence in the cheeks, I had always planned to use Jasmine... mostly because... Devon has a very ethnic (for lack of a better word) look to her... and Jasmine is the most ethnic of the six princesses I'm using. Completely different ethnicity true, but as a cartoon character... it still works. Mostly because of the eyes, I think. Jasmine's eyes convince me I made the right decision. They Miho'ify her.

SPECIAL ARTIST'S NOTE: IF YOU COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW YOU THINK THIS DRAWING SHOULD HAVE BEEN MULAN, I WILL MURDER YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY, AND EAT YOUR FREAKING SOULS! READ THE OTHER COMMENTS! The interesting thing about this one, is, Miho doesn't actually have an official poster of her own. I had to make this one up really. I used a promotional picture of her, from the movie's website, for the pose... re-arranged the composition to poster size... picked a quote from the movie that I though worked for the poster, and voila... we have a makeshift, no-existant Miho poster.

Anyway...

Being that it's black, it was pretty much just flat black in all the pictures I looked at for reference, so I kinda had to figure out how the hell to put some depth back into it, so to speak. Find a happy medium between Rosario Dawson's 3-Dimensional head, and Snow White's 2-Dimensional one.

Belle was always my first choice for Becky, because Belle bore the strongest resemblance to Becky of the six princesses... almost too strong a resemblence I see, now that it's finished. I have a slight problem with this one, in that, Belle so strongly resembles Becky, that it's almost not obvious that the drawing is meant to be Belle, and not just a cartoon Becky...

BUT... interesting thing about this one... I actually managed to find model sheets of Belle on google... so I assure you, her face is spot on Disney's Model... so whether she looks it or not, she's as Belle as she's gonna get. But all and all, she's not bad. Like Miho, Becky didn't have a real poster, so I had to make a fake one based on promotional art. I didn't colorize her, A) Because the Becky picture I based it on was black and white, with heavy shadow, and I wanted to stay true to it, and B) Because thus far, Aurora is the only completely Black and White one (Cause that's how Goldie's poster actually looks) so I wanted to do at least one more in Black and White to kindof... Balance the set... so to speak.

But um... so ends the ride... Hope you liked'em.
