Saturday night it was a picture wrap on The Barrens, an awesome horror movie (hopefully?!) that was directed by Darren Bousman (Repo the Genetic Opera, Saw 2,3,4, etc)

I got the luck and joy to work with actors such as Stephen Moyer (Trueblood- Vampire Bill!!!) , Mia Kirshner, Allie MacDonald, Peter DaCunha, etc.

(I even got to do makeup on Shawn Ashmore (iceman) on Saturday! )

Anyway, I am truly lucky.

And on Friday, I decided to wear my Trueblood shirt because I told Stephen I was going to before we wrapped, so I asked him at the end of the day if I could get a pic with him with the shirt, and I got a few, and this is the one he decided to do! And I love it !

On saturday us "Pretty Team" got gift baskets from him and I totally didn't expect getting one because...I'm only an assistant! But I got a huge basket of sweets and a nice personalized card which totally warmed my heart !

He is awesome. That's that.

It was my first time making a finger, and I used so many damn materials, testing out, and when I found this one and did it, I just got so excited that it came out looking like a finger. Character Prosthetic - Medusa

Hey !

So...some of you might know, about a month ago I found out I made it as one of the 8 finalist for the Student competition at the IMATS in NYC in the character/prosthetic category.

and...

I got 1st place !
Michael Key told me some of the reasons why and it was my flawless edges (invisible to the eye) and my paintjob!

I really wasn't expecting that, and..I was so surprised, there was so many amazing projects.

And...well I didn't take many pictures unfortunatly and i'm SO mad at myself, I don't even think I have a portfolio worthy picture And...I can't seem to find a picture of like when I won..

But...here's a video !

Oh and there are 4 prosthetic pieces on the model ; 2 cheek pieces (one on each cheek), one chin piece, and one big neck piece !

Last night I was cleaning my airbrush gun, and then decided to test some colours, and ended up doing a little...makeup thingy.

I'm currently in a period where I can't spend all of my good makeup products, so I used some of my AA airbrush colours, and some wax (wanted to test both together as well) , and basicly some fake blood.

It's my first special FX makeup in a very very long time, first of 2011. I think last time I did something was like... november?

Many things I would have changed in this, I'm still learning from my work! ^^

p.s. I want to redo this after having great criticism from my bf, but we thought it would be a good idea to post this anyway. He thought some of you might be tired of reading about all the lovy dovy journals !

After a while I didn't have great lighting (we were sharing the studio with someone else so the lights were ...barely there for me to do makeup) ,Not quite fond of the colour of the fake blood, but I'm blaming the fact I couldnt see what i was doing . But I really liked the hip bruise ! They were happy with the black eye, I wasn't, but if the client is happy, then that's good. (I would have still prefered to be happy myself haha).

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while... I haven'T been doing much special FX at all, I really need to get back with it.

This was a bald cap test I did , the day before I did hum an online commercial.

Model is my dadddd, and you can see the before and after. The after image being the one on the left !

The colouring would have needed to be blended a little more into the face, but I really wanted to try just...blending the edge of the cap, etc. Since... I had only done it once before.

So this is a close up of my mini proshetic piece that I did the night before the photoshoot. It is made out of a product called '3rd degree' it's a 2 part silicone product.

So yeah, I usually don't 'like' my work, but i'm really proud of the edges on this one since it was my second time doing so.

Oh, and I know that the blood looks dry on the picture, indeed it was, i was waiting for the photographer. I then spayed some water on top to 'reliquify' it for my real photographs ^^.

This is my makeup job for my school photoshoot. I took the picture as well, I will be getting some pics of the photographer later on.

This represents a beaten up inmate that obviously got tortured. He got his throat slashed in the end so obviously, he's kinda dying even though there's not a dying facial expression.

I was really happy with my blending of my small proshetic (sliced throat) piece that I made out of '3rd degree' the night before I will post a close up !

So, this was a practice of 'android' makeup, with a metal skull and all, and...yeah I did a 3rd degree burn to reveal the metal skull. It sucks, but I have to practice ^^

The blending sucks because I was too stupid to think that the gelatin was clear, so it wouldn't hide the aluminium under. It was late that night to do makeups haha ! Material used is gelatin.... temptu palette....hm scab blood... some eyeshadow powder.

Zombie 3rd stage

Okkk, so I'm posting this, even though i'm really embarassed. I tried to make it 'better' with the eyes, and editing a few things haha, making stuff darker because it was and still is just a mess.

I do have a good reason for it to look like sh*t. I was the demo, so I had all the thing on me, during lunch break (45 min) I took the thing of, and I wasn't done when break was over, my face was burning like fire (I guess my skin is very sensitive to latex) and I didn't get to eat. Haha, so that was my reason. Actually the face burning part really made it hard...like it hurt a lot. Sooo beware if you have sensitive skin don't apply tones of latex on your face !

So here is my 2nd stage zombie makeup on Brea. 2nd stage is like a couple days old dead body.

Hmm, it kinda sucks I would have added more details on the skin, to break it down more, but the day was over so I had to clean her up.

I also did the hum zombie bite, out of 3rd degree. I still suck at blending edges, bear with me. I edited the eyes to make them zombiish they suck I know, it's not my thing ^^.

I looked at the pictures of my 3rd stage zombie, anddd i'm too embarassed to post them haha, it really , totally sucks.

Sooo, thursday our teacher was a bit late, so we had an hour or so to do practice on stuff... so I decided to work with hum fake glass that I had bought a while ago.

I should have 'cleaned' the glass a bit, they were already pretinted with a like redish colouring, and I just find it a bit too red. So now i'll know for next time

Made with bondo, temptu palette, fake glass, hmm and hum scabbed blood.

edit: I should have edited the picture a little, the blood looks a little too purplish magenta. =/ it didn't look like that in real life haha. I might do it later ....

Soo...Every wednesday we have our other teacher (he'S more of a beauty makeup teacher) teach us stuff. And he taught us steam burns. Though our other teacher told us before that steam burns wouldnt have like lots and lots of blood, like....gushing out. So I didn't want to put any blood, but he was like... I really love your blending and your sens of colouring, it's perfect, but I really want you to add more blood. So I was like I don't knowww if they're would be that much bloodd... And he was like, trust me it would. So I added more.

Next day our special FX Teacher taught us how to do real steam burns, that will be my next submission.

So this is a medicaly incorrect steamburn made with gelatin.

Of course, with such a burn she wouldn't have eyelashes on that eye, but her and I didn't feel like cutting them so ...

Result of an explosion or intense heat (fire), it's pretty much when the body is suddenly bombarded with so much heat.
So it's pretty much like a 3rd degree.

This wasss made with liquid latex (a very strong one =/ it kinda burned MY skin so be careful with that stuff) , temptu colors and....charcoal dust...anddd tuplast.

P.s. I wasn't too...proud of the makeup but I really liked the photograph sooo I don't care I know that the edges are visible ^^ i'll fix that next time

It was a little hard working with her skin tone, since it's like a little darker and golden, I didn't want to make it too like red and....I'm only really used to seeing my sunburns (and i'm like super fair) so.... it was fun working with her ^^

So after we did the scars in class we did hum bullet wounds. Entries and exits.

My bullet entry hole is like a tiny bit too small it would have look better a tiny bit bigger, but not too big ^^

I'm not too sure of how it looks, I don't seem to believe it...probably since i've never seen a real one before. I should have put a drizzle of blood coming down ^^ it would have giving it a nice effect I think.

So here is how our teacher taught us to do the stitches. I'm not quite sure if I 'believe' it. Like...if it really works. But he knows what reads on TV and film since ...that's what he does. Films and TV ^^ I guess it would work if the talent didn't get like much scene like...just a quick glimpse, not a close up.
