So, the last time I drew anything with James and Andrew was ages ago. A lot of stuff has happened for them since then, and they've been together for coming up on a year now. And they are cuties, so I decided to draw a Valentine's pic for them, partly as reward to Kathryn (who writes Andrew) for being awesome. I'm far too sleepy to do more than flat colours, though. Maybe I'll update later. Maybe I won't.

Disclaimer: No, this is not actually Ten and Five. It's the metacrisis and someone who happens to have a copy of the Five's body, both of whom are practically original characters by now. I always feel slightly awkward posting stuff with them. So. Shush. They are my darlings.

And yes, I used a reference photo for this, I'm sure people who've been around fandom can tell which one.

This weekend I went to a tiny (capped at 300 tickets) Doctor Who convention in London where the proceeds went to the charity Project Motor Mouth, through Janet Fielding. For this event, I drew this picture of all the people who were going to be there.

Depicted are: Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), Dorium Maldovar's head in a box (Simon Fisher), Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy), Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding), Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison), Jamie McCrimmon (Frazer Hines), and the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker).

I got a picture with four of the Doctors ( [link] ), and I got to talk to all of them (except for Frazer Hines, who couldn't make it) and give them this drawing, which they all seemed to love. (Colin commented I'd made him quite attractive.) I also got to chat with Andrew Smith (writer of Full Circle), and quite awesomely, Nicholas Briggs (voice of the Daleks and Cyberman, writer/director/producer and main guy of Big Finish, who make the Doctor Who audio dramas). It was a pretty epic day.

Hey look at that. A Martin to match the Benedict. I went more detailed on the shirt than on his face, that's a bit uncommon for me. But the folds and shading in this was just so fun and challenging, since I partly made it up.

2011 Terrible facewise

Adam Scott portrait.

I couldn't quite decide whether to name this "Terrible facewise" or "Human disaster" (or possibly "Calzone boy"), even though none of them really apply that well to the drawing. But say he's terrible facewise was never true in the first place, so that's fine. He just accrues nicknames in a rather wonderful way.

Adam Scott plays Ben Wyatt, my other favourite character in Parks And Recreation. He is wonderful and adorable, and also brings the geekdom to the show, which is always appreciated. And the snarky voice of reason who gets excited about accounting.

A portrait of Paul McGann that I livestreamed the entirety of. Took about 5 hours. I'll upload a timelapse later. I did it to practice picking colours without colour-picking from references images. And it was successful, so, yay. And thanks to people who helped with encouragement and kind words and constructive criticism. I'd never have gotten half as good as I am now without people supporting me.

Amy Poehler, who plays my favourite character in my favourite currently running show, Parks And Recreation. I'd like to think there's a real version of her out there somewhere.

It makes me happy to have a show with woman as a main character who's so optimistic, driven, hard-working, hyper-competent, kind, thoughtful, intelligent and all around amazing. The show simply makes me happy in my little feminist soul.

It's about time I did some proper fanart for this show, I adore it so much.

One hour speedpaint of Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

I finally went and saw those Marvel movies, because of Avengers coming out. It being written/directed by Joss Whedon, who is my favourite TV-making person, I couldn't really miss it.

And seeing as Loki has always been my favourite Norse God, and Tom Hiddleston is beautiful and a wonderful person, I had to draw him even though I don't really have time for it. Oh well. There might be more. Despite the giant flaws when it comes to the Norse mythology in Marvel movieverse (um like Loki being Odin's son rather than his blood-brother), it was very engaging and Loki was a wonderfully sympathetic villain.

My favourite TARDIS team.

The Eight Doctor: Boundlessly enthusiastic, charismatic, caring, romantic, optimistic to the point of naivety. Has a tendency to lose his memory. And then sometimes hes dull and lecturing, or extremely snarky, and a few times downright cruel. Eventually becomes so broken by pain and loss, and in the end he has to destoy the whole of Gallifrey.

Charlotte Charley Pollard: The 18 year-old Edwardian adventuress, who ran away from her upper-class life, sneaking aboard an airship dressed as a male crew-member, and became a paradox once the Doctor saved her life. Brave, kind, passionate, witty, intelligent, impulsive, stubborn, exuberant, all around lovely, and unfailingly loyal. One of the few the Doctor has ever openly loved as more than a friend, and quite deservedly so. (Can you tell shes my favourite?)

Crizz: A Eutermesan (humanoid chameleon-like species) from the planet Bortresoye, in a parallell universe. A monk forced to mercy-kill his wife, and also tries repeatedly to commit suicide before he joins up with the Doctor. When on form however, he is brave, kind, witty, clever, tenacious, and heroic. But also deeply traumatised, guilt-ridden, self-hating and a bit unstable. Hes a badass woobie.

In summary: You should definitely go listen to the Big Finish audios and experience the awesome that is these characters.

Some friends and I have the headcanon that after he became his own person, and not just a hand in a jar, he had nightmares about being in a jar. So you get some naked David Tennant. Good deal?

This is a weird mix of drawing and 3D. The base and lighting and things is done in 3D, but most of what you actually see is drawn. However, there's an awful lot of cheating involved, so it was a lot less complicated than you'd think. Still took half a day though. But worth it, I think.

An experiment in combining 3D with drawing. The arm is made in Maya, then detailed, posed and rendered in zBrush. The the rest is drawn in Photoshop.

Fivebot again. Angsting about his mechanical existence. I go back and forth on exactly how advanced he should be underneath his skin. I went with this because I find it more visually pleasing and easier for me to make than an overly robotic design. I've always been better at organic looking things. And besides, he appears completely human normally, so he IS very advanced.

Maya 2012, zBrush 4, Photoshop CS5, Wacom Intous4 tablet... Bunch of hours probably.

So the title... This was inspired by a song, and he was originally holding a mug of tea, but then I couldn't get the angle right and it drove me crazy, so I just erased the whole mug. So now he's just being emo. But you can still have some of the lyrics it was inspired by...

Parks and Recreation. Chris and Ben. I wish we got more of these two together. They're been friends for years, since long before they got to Pawnee, and there's definitely some history there. So it made me happy that the subplot in the new episode was just Chris checking up on and worrying about Ben. And making him terrible herbal smoothies.

I was too lazy to do colours, so I drew this on greyscale then slapped a gradient map on. Few hours total.

My favourite character. Half-brother of Little My (and several dozen other children), son of the Mymble and the Joxter (a slacker and likewise a wanderer). A young vagabond, solitary wanderer, anarchist, and defender of little ones. He's admired by the small and shy, and keeps all his worldly possessions in his backpack, wandering south every winter, but returning to Moominvalley and his best friend Moomin when spring comes.

2011 Mark and Roger get bored

Been a while since I drew Rent fanart, hasn't it? So long I'm fairly sure I've put all of it in storage. Well, all you guys who started watching me way back then, hope you like this.

I've been wanting to do a comic for ages, but it probably won't be Rent focused. These guys are just so easy to (lovingly) make fun of.

And if you're curious who I'm basing my Mark and Roger on... It's sort of an osmosis of five different ones. Though the first two jokes are specific to Harley Jay's Mark and Declan Bennett's Roger, as they both wore nail polish, and Declan's hair looked like a spotty skunk. The last joke is pretty much every Roger ever, and their tendency to set themselves on fire during Light My Candle.

Lots and lots of the Fifth Doctor, portrayed by Peter Davison.

Been watching through Five's run with a friend, and we invented a drinking game: drink every time Five puts his hands in his pockets. Except you can't really play it, cause your liver would shut down halfway through the first serial.

Drawn using just black and white brushes and eraser, no grey. Screencaps used as reference.

12 Badass Gandalf

Classmate asked how quickly I drew stuff, and wanted me to prove it. So he asked for a drawing of Gandalf, and I painted this in 90 minutes while he was gone. Man, that hair/beard is a challenge. I never draw hair like that, so mostly I just went scribblecrazy. Yay?

Never done any LotR fanart, which is a real shame. Very much looking forward to The Hobbit.
