Here's a delightful venture in which you can partake. This 'One Million Giraffes' project [link]) is attempting to collect one million giraffes by 2011. I urge you all to contribute as many of your own giraffes as you can. As you see, 'aesthetic merit' is entirely immaterial here, it is all in good fun; and you can create your giraffes in any manner you wish (there are some very creative and wonderfully hilarious examples), except on a computer/tablet/digital media. I have to confess I particularly enjoyed this part of the rules ([link]) : ' People spend too much time in front of their TVs and computers. It's time to create something with your hands! Something you can feel, touch and hold! I don't care how you make you giraffe(s) as long as it's not on a computer. Try being old-fashioned for once, it actually is a lot of fun.'

This sketch is the only giraffe I've submitted so far. It was drawn from life at London Zoo as far back as seven years ago (I can hardly believe it's been as long as that). Here is its page on the site: [link]

Carbon pencil and black Conté on Canson drawing paper, 140 gsm. 2002
