Hey guys! It's finally here, the cover for Day 3 of TAG!
I spent ages trying to concept this one and would you believe, yesterday I sat down and it just popped into my head. Now Breo graces this cover in wraparound glory.

Well, I'm pretty pleased with it anyway! First TAG related thing I've drawn for ages and it felt awesome. I miss it. But I am planning/thumbing/sketching Day 4 as we type, so hopefully there will be some actual comic updates soon.

I wanted to draw a snowy scene so I chose her winter outfit from one of the references; and apparently she likes to go up so I figured climbing a tree might be appropriate!

More character diversifying stuff. Been umming and aahing over whether or not to post this but since I haven't posted here in aaaaages or even doodled anything for myself in aaaaaaages (seriously it's been like what two months?) because I've been so busy colouring comics for other groups.

What surprises me is how much my style has changed in that space of time. Working in all those different techniques and linestyles must have made some new pathways in my brain. I'm really favouring gradients and textures, and colour effects on lineart now. I guess this is a manifestation of that. Still debating on the official style for H&H, more page testing is required. Anyway, here are some portraits of some of the main/not so main characters.

Left to right, top to bottom (+ tl;dr commentary in case anyone's interested):

James Renhurst English (south), early seventies
After being forcibly retired from the police a few years ago James continues to contribute as a special constable(volunteer), specifically providing counseling, profiling and interviewing. He's a sharply sensible, highly experienced but equally compassionate man, making him the first stop for most officers looking for advice, either in a case or in life. Since being widowed the officers at the Teppesley stations have become his family; he is incredibly protective of them, and a bit of a father figure for most.

Naomi French English (south), mid thirties
DCI French is a harshly dedicated zero tolerance investigator. Underneath her diamonds&steel exterior is a base curiosity for solving any puzzle she is faced with, including figuring out her co-workers. She is eagle-eyed for small details and often the first to spot signs of trouble; if she finds evidence of any issues, even if it implicates her best friends, you bet your arse she'll see it through until she finds the truth. Some say she needs to trust her heart more - but then she would say her heart follows her head anyway.

Benjamin Mackellar Scottish, early thirties
Sergeant Mackellar, generally known as "The Chipper Skipper", is a guy with very few shades of grey. Love/hate, right/wrong, up/down; he's normally a very positive and excitable person but can just as easily snap to his more vicious temper if he thinks someone is out of line. He's passionate and open, especially concerning his faith, his work, and football. Encompassing all of this is unwavering support from his family, and of course the pillar of strength in his life, his loving husband Jules.

Chandra "Charlie" Sudarshan British Indian, mid twenties
Charlie is very much up on her feet. Always busy, always running around. She tends to be quite high strung with other peoples' expectations (her general mantra is "fuck it that'll do") but equally she just has to do everything for herself. She's actually incredibly smart when it comes to social angles - making good decisions... not so much.

Madelainne "Maddie" Heston English (south), late twenties
Maddie is technically the centre of the story; not in that she's a completely main character, but she's the first falling domino that brings down a skyscraper.

Jules Persie English (north), early thirties
Jules is a very relaxed kinda bloke. His life turned into a bit of a dog's breakfast from an early age but it's given him a very calm philosophical outlook and a hashed mix of skills. There's always one more story to pull out the woodwork with him. Need something doing? Chances are he's done it before. He loves spontaneity and pretty much does what he wants when he wants; it means he can't hold a single job for very long, so he might not seem particularly stable-set, but Ben will always be there as the bassline to Jules' jazz melody.

Alexandri Paludino-Hunter English (south), mid twenties
Hunter is a man of contradictions - young but weathered, strong but weak, clever but oh so naive sometimes. More than anything he's tired; not just physically (from insomnia), but emotionally and mentally with his work, with people, and often, it seems, life in general. You might get the feeling he fights because he has to, not because he wants to. There's very little that will draw him from his exhausted shell, but nonetheless his sense of duty is great and anything he does choose to do, he will follow through on with all his ability.

Speake Jr English/Irish, late teens
Jr is trouble. He's a spoilt little git that is easily getting too big for his boots, he wants the world in the palm of his hands and as far as he's concerned it's already at his fingertips. Any venture is fair game for him and if he doesn't get what he wants heads will roll. He may be young, but the reputation he's built up for himself has plenty of established gangsters quaking behind their barrels - he's violent, very violent, and seems to have no boundaries when it comes to inflicting torture.

Hare South Korean, ???
Hare's a tricky one. He's quick and impossible to catch, physically and digitally. He knows what he likes and he knows how to get it; more often than not that involves pushing someone's buttons to fulfill his secret masochistic fantasies. On the surface he's all videogames, fashion and partying - underneath, there's a calculating and devastatingly powerful strategist. If he can pull himself out of his hopelessly self-destructive behavioural cycles, that is.

More character development/practice stuff, just something to chill with while I recover :'D

Ben I'm pretty sure we all know by now, our incredibly sensitive Scottish sergeant with the nerves of a small rodent. Generally a fun, generous and considerate guy unless you set off his randomly explosive temper. Slight drinking problem. Yeah, we've got Ben.

This other guy in the specs then, this is Jules, Ben's husband. He's a northerner. He's also a very cuddly & relaxed kinda bloke. Pacifist, soft, but not easily phased; actually I think he's generally blissfully unaware of whenever people are threatening/being rude to him.

He basically lives on another planet, which suits his lifestyle. He is his own boss, dabbling in multiple little ventures, and as such, he does what he wants whenever he wants. As in, he prefers not to constrict himself to routines, rather, he will sleep when tired, eat when hungry, and show up to your party/gathering if he happens to be awake, remembers, and feels like it. Some people hate his attitude, it's just best to have more relaxed expectations with him.

Apart these two can be a bit funny. They have a basically symbiotic relationship; Ben needs Jules to lean on, calm him down, and sort out his thoughts - Jules needs Ben to keep him somewhat grounded in reality, for a bit of stability, and to depend on when others give up on his philosophies. They get along ridiculously well, maybe because of rather than in spite of their slightly awkward history together, and defend eachother vigorously.

They will always have eachothers' backs.

My sister told me to make something SPARKLY DESU for one of my print illustrations so this started off as me making fun of all things stereotypically anime.

Let's take a look:
- Weird hair ✓
- Peace sign ✓
- Ambiguous-blob talking animal side kick ✓
- Schoolgirl uniform ✓
- Sparkles and magic ✓
- Cat ears/tail/bell/fangs ✓
- Little wings ✓

...but most importantly...
- Impossible panty shot ✓ (bonus for barely legal!)

I think I did pretty well. The worst part of it, though...
...is that I think I actually like it orz

This year was a year of collaborations - I coloured well over a hundred pages of small press fare, inked a good few, and have even penciled a couple. A lot of these projects have already been published, some are still in the wings.

I suppose my highlight of this year would be the all too brief times I got to work with one of my idols, Paul Duffield (*spoonbard) (and meeting him at Thought Bubble!). More on that when we can finally spill all the beans.

My aims for this year were:
- ~~Attend more conventions, improve my networking!~~ ✔
- ~~Pass my driving test~~ ✔
- ~~Reach black belt |D~~ ✔
- Work harder on TAG (I only just finished Day 3, but then, I've been busy with other comic stuff!)
- Get Hunter & Hare rolling (Still working on that! But I'm getting closer)
- Get a "real" job?? (I've started making enough money off of my art to amount to a decent wage. Not enough to support myself entirely yet, but things don't seem to be slowing down)

My aims for next year:
- Improve my health!
- Sort out my time management. Make schedules. Stick to them.
- Learn to make time for my own projects too
- and bloody well stop chewing my nails!

Basically sort myself out so I can have more time to relax :')

- Get a "real" job?? (I've started making enough money off of my art to amount to a decent wage. Not enough to support myself entirely yet, but things don't seem to be slowing down)

My aims for next year:
- Improve my health!
- Sort out my time management. Make schedules. Stick to them.
- Learn to make time for my own projects too
- and bloody well stop chewing my nails!

Basically sort myself out so I can have more time to relax :')
