Why are female Charr so unpopular ingame, sheesh.. I feel certain uniqueness 'cause I see less than one a day. Kitties are cool.

Aaanyway, something else for a change. I've wanted to do some semi-serious semi-conceptual character painting for quite a while, it's just soo entirely different mindset when compared to environment.
I chose my Guild Wars 2 character, yay! I'm still totally hooked to the PvP side of this game. It's like a polished WoW for me in PvP side: no need for any grinding, no gear differences whatsoever, cosmetic progress and small skillset in combat (I felt pretty overwhelmed with WoW, it was sometimes like playing a piano).
I'll throw a screen shot of my character for a reference later when I get a proper one, character screens are pretty derp as Charr doesn't fit entirely in them.

This has been kind of a longer project I've been doing just ever now and then. No time lapse since I started this a loong time ago.

Please do not post this on GW2 Reddit, I'll do it myself later if I want to.

This one was really fun actually. Took me hell of a long time to get the perspective look decent but colors seemed to click into their places surprisingly well.. I also love mountains, or any rocky stuff for that matter. Rocks are nice.

While I was dissapointed in the design of the character (first thing I thought was some ponification TBH) and how little we got to know of him, AND the fact he barely spoke anything apart from single words, he still had enough of somethingsomething to inspirate me.
But yah, considering the real target audience and the time Sombra had to be introduced in, he sure served his purpose as a constant menacing threat in the distance with his personality alone. He didn't entirely need that oh so deep story, but at least something would've been nice when compared to earlier villains.

For now I can't come up with a better title, whatevs.

"As the battle continued, Commander Bolt stood next to Nightmare Moon and watched as his troops approached the gate, by this time Canterlot looked like it was burning from the inside out. The continued catapult and grenade attacks started taking its toll on the homes and buildings inside the city. As Commander Bolt watched, he felt nothing but regret. Nightmare Moon could see this regret in his eyes, so she tried to cheer him up, Soon Commander, this war will end, and you will have a peaceful life once again by my side.
Commander Bolt continued looking at the city as he replied, But at what cost?"

Once again it took just waaay too long for me to gather the motivation to get this one finished. I seriously need some self-discipline. Other than that, I enjoyed most aspects of this picture, the sky, characters, Canterlot, all the nice little things where you can really push into your own imagination and certain freedom.

I seriously need to refine my mental archive and reference picture folder about environments like this one, where the source of light is rather scarce. Took me a hefty while to balance out the values or different elements. ]]> Priceless911

Yepyep, while the game itself was a bit of a flop for me in many ways, it's still really enjoyable when playing with friends and enough to inspire with its visual side.

Started this one few days after Diablo came out but decided to archive it almost rightaway due to lack of time and motivation. Decided to continue and really LOVED working on it. Yeah well, I like symmetry and stuff.. And Shining Armor was a bit lonely in my gallery so I went and painted Princess Cadence too.

Gave it a bit more attention and went for more vivid colors this time, as some of you found the rather desaturated feel of Shining Armor unpleasant.. Gotta say I now definitely understand why.

And oh my god.. I yelled to myself few times "Remember the wings" "Don't forget the wings" but forgot them anyway as they were supposed to be one of the last things to paint in. They're a bit hassled now as I had to add them afterwards but can't help it.

..And note to self.. No rapid hand movements after four hours of holding tablet pencil.

In short, all I can say is that you should read the fic even if you don't like sadfics. This one is really an exception. The story itself is so powerful and great deciphering of the relationship between Twilight and her parents. It certainly isn't your usual "Alright, let's make you cry" fic.

From the start I already kinda knew what I wanted, but struggled to make it happen. I didn't want to give enviroment any color so the value separation and defining the distance was pretty sloppy and all over the place from time to time. I'm still not quite happy about the perspective and sense of distance but can't help it.

Humanization of Celestia to accompany the Nightmare Moon I already did.

I enjoyed this one even more though and gave it double the time I gave for Nightmare Moon. Still going with fantasy style, and this time a bit more fancy in terms of design.

Once again I felt the pain of female face. I wanted her to look benevolent and forever-young whatnot so pretty much every brush stroke was pretty damn painful to execute.

I guess these two are enough humans for a while.

As a Deviantart submission the new year concept sure is pretty outdated now as the contest was centered around the times of Asian new year revelries and on top of that I didn't submit it here until now. But caaaan't help it.

But dayum, to think I actually ranked among the runner ups, which means I was somewhere among 100 best works of all entries exceeding total of 4500! Runner up price was just about 30 worth of ingame points, but I'm just so thrilled and more than happy to have been able to actually compete with all those hundreds of brilliant artists and get my artwork up among the first pages of the contest gallery! This is a huge game with millions and millions of players, damnit.

As my artwork ended up taking place outside the style of traditional New Year Revelry concept of Asia, except for the hassled lantern, I really didn't think I could compete after a while of browsing the artwork of other entrants... At least seems like my work was somewhat unique.

But yup decided to paint Rumble (Official [link] as a reference for those not familiar with the game). Yordles with rockets, rockets with Yordles. This was idea I got almost rightaway when I began thinking about the contest.

Finally got this one done. Nightmare Moon is a lovely villain and needs some attention to detail.

I haven't painted a human for literally ages, so I've wanted to try one out. So why not try and go for pony humanization. Decided to go for Nightmare Moon as her barbute gave me an excuse to go for armor design and play with metal. She has pretty nice and evil design overall, which I do like.. And altered a bit myself, once again no overly flowywowy incorporeal hair. Just a lil' bit.

Decided not to go for overly fantasy style with armor, just a bit to have some feel and accompany her barbute, but restrained it to look pretty simple otherwise.
*cough* enormous halberd *cough*

Woman's face is something I once again found pretty challenging, it's just so damn delicate if you want it to look like a woman. The smallest of mistakes do show.. Yet my vision is pretty clouded once again and I can't really bother to try and fix it more and more.

I enjoyed working on this pretty well, I might think about painting Celestia as a human in a similar fashion too.

I wanted to dabble with some night forest scenery or so, and ended up taking the scene from ep 12 with timberwolves n' stuff. They were fun to draw, now if I only got them to look more wolf-like. Whatev.

I wanted to dabble with some night forest scenery or so, and ended up taking the scene from ep 12 with timberwolves n' stuff. They were fun to draw, now if I only got them to look more wolf-like. Whatev.

Aye, I'm rather slow again, as always. Exams have kept me tad busy this week and my drawing time I've used for contest entry as I've taken part in offical League of Legends art competition so.. Pretty low on pony stuff.

But yup. I just couldn't resist drawing AJ after that letter scene with her bouncing a tankard on her head. Afterall she's ma' favourite character.

I've never used this wide array of pencils in one work.. I basically tried everything between 4h and 6B for different situations. Ended up working pretty good, yet felt somewhat slow.

I've included a good amount of certain symbolism which you can understand more if you read the fic. Four places in the background are all more or less major points of interest, mid one being good ol' Canterlot.

And before anyone of you asks about pony on the left, her name is Sand Shaper.

Well, largest scale work I've done this far, and it did stumble quite a few times on itself. My totally chaotic work progress isn't really suited for pictures like this where we have alot of things going on. But yeah, I can only blame myself as commission was pretty freeform one up for me to design from the fic.

I originally intended to just take a quick peek at his fic to get some idea but damn, I ended up seeing how well written it is in many ways, not flawless but really good. Plot wasn't too hurried and narrating was really smooth. I couldn't help going five chapters in a day. Turns into a real page-turner once you've dwell into first few chapters and got the plot properly running.

Bot then some technical notes. I.. Just suck at drawing ponies from front. I tried to get Luna's muzzle into shape but I just couldn't really figure it all through well enough.
The picture took damn much time to get balanced out to work well and not look too messy. I really had to try going beyond my skill to make this happen.

Not that I had trouble with the actual background, but multiple characters like here tend to give me that sweeping kick in the face, especially when I have no clue where I actually want the light to come and where it is supposed to come.

My vision is clouded for now. I need to rest the night before taking further judging myself..

Edit: Oh lawd, took me five days to realize I forgot her crown. So that's the thing which really bothered me all along

Well, this was supposed to be a smaller work but my perfectionism kinda wanted to overdo it. Ofc it still is rather hassled in many ways but yupyup.

Not much to say about this. For the first time I tried black framing and absolutely loved the additional effect it gives.

And why the heck I always inadvertently disregard cutie marks. Again I had already done almost half of the pic when I realised I can't get the cutie mark to show up and have no fitting place to symbolically inscribe it.

Maybe I'll write something later.. Damn tired.

But oh jesus, Guad, you're just crazy. This sure is the most weird concept I've drawn.

Well, the weird concept gave me halfway a surprisingly strong roundhouse kick to the face by introducing so many things I thought to be easy, yet actually lack skill with. For example it took hell of a lot of time to get Derpy fit into that cloud, and another bunch of time to get that cloud fit into the sky. I came into conclusion my techniques are not-so-good with this kind of concept. Derpy just looked too much out of place for a long time before I got her to fit in there somewhat well.
Another thing I completely failed with was perspective. I intended to go for more intense and dynamic perspective (have her aiming somewhere towards the screen and stuff) but that just didn't work out with my level of skill. I never got the barrett to fit the perspective. I certainly lack some eye for things like that. I wont draw weapons often either.

I just had to alter the given concept tiny bit to get it working better with my style. Sorry if I altered it too much, Guad.

Certainly not among my best works, but does the trick. One can't always be successful I guess. Or maybe I'm too harsh on myself, I don't know, my whole vision had clouded with this one already and in the end all I could judge was "this is bad, but is it worse if I do it like this"

Feelin' tad dizzy... I'm off to sleep, finally.

EDIT: Well, new day dawns and I take another look at it. It isn't so bad afterall

Ooooooooh I had SO much fun with this one. Haven't even thought about full nighttime view after my Nightmare Moon pic.
I absolutely loved working that milky way into the sky, altho it ended up being a little bit off in angle/position.

I didn't really know how am I going to make a worthy picture as I knew I couldn't really haul a lot of stuff into dark night. So I pretty much developed the whole picture in my mind while drawing it.
I also tried to really use soft & low opacity brushes to get somewhat more realistic picture.. Not quite sure if it's a good or a bad idea with ponies.

And owwwh sorry Clair, it was already too late when I realized I couldn't get the cutie mark to show in this perspective. Drawing OC without including the cutie mark was pretty absurd so I painted it as a reflection in the water.

And once again, layers, layers, layers.. Too many layers. I just can't really get out of it.

Entry #1
Pinkie is still in no shape to walk on her own, due to her going off doing her hops skips and jumps we've got to carry her for two days. Guess we can't blame her, she can't help her personality, that's our Pinkie.

Entry #2
We've reached the higher peaks, nearing the highest of mountains. For now we found a good, easy to go path going along the mountainside. It's long enough for us to draw some breath after endless climbing, let alone those two fellows with wings. They're good to carry Pinkie now, while Rarity takes the hold of Dash's equipment.. After a hefty while of squabbling. That pony sure does anything to get her hooves out of work.

Dusk is falling, we're catching breath for a minute. It's about time to slow down and find a place for an encampment. Sky's pretty clear, going to be a cold night.. Not that we'd have trouble with it, but Pinkie hasn't been on her feet for a while. If someone of us were to catch a cold here, it'd slow us down way too much. Not to mention what it'd cause to Pinkie at her current state. At least she seems to be pretty well concious at the moment.
But we have to get moving now, before it gets too dark."

Well, yeah. I still suck at writing, I know. But I thought this needed at least some idea of a backstory going.
Finally I got this one out, have had this under my pencil for over three weeks for now as I've been pretty low on passion for drawing for a while now.

Overall this was quite fun one to do, especially figuring out the background was pretty fun. But oh, those mountains went through so many geographical fixes, I'm still not totally satisfied with them but can't help it.
And the piles of reference material I had to scavenge through was just inhumane, when I started this I realised how small my memory archive about mountains were.

Didn't pay much attention to things. Like that appletree doesn't even resemble an appletree, I basically went for a basic impression of a tree, constructed a straight trunk and hastily threw some kind of a messy foliage through demented scribbling

..AJ:s grin went a bit off, I know. And perspective is lil' unclear since I had no idea how to properly foreshorten and angle the tree n' stuff

"...The being standing before her was completely unknown 'like the hollow before' her mind couldn't help but think, It stood on two legs, about a foot or more taller then her Pa, back straight with two legs higher up it's body which at each end had 5 small digits like the hollow but without claws,one was covered in blood she noticed grimly, a short black mane was on it's head which came down it's back as two thin braids with rings in each end, other then that no fur or tail was visible, but that may have been because it was wearing clothes! like the princess and princes of Canterlot, the back of it's long white robe was a symbol, a black sideways diamond empty save for two black lines inside, briefly she worried it might be hostile like the hollow or even some type she hadn't yet seen, but the hollows own reaction spoke for it's self..." -Sunsnap

Feat. Soi Fon, random hollow and a young pony named Sunsnap.

Yepyep, I learned alot from my last works. Refined my style and lighting a bit and was quite thrilled about this one. But it went just so damn smooth, everything seemed to lock in it's place and got this done about two times faster than my "Lunar Rebellion". Reduced my layer usage a bit and bam, it became much more easier to work with, and that reflects to the final result, which I actually really like. Didn't expect this one to turn out this good.

Just that.. Proportions are still a little bit off, and this pony, Sunsnap seems to be in rather awkward and weird position, I suck with foreshortening, tried to actually cover it with foliage a bit but.. Whatev.

...I'd kill for a scanner. Right now the quality of my pen & paper drawings seem to depend on the weather outside since the only viable place for me to take a photo is in natural light...

Edit: I just came to realise I totally forgot to use mirror.. I flipped this image after I already had sent it and came to realise how off in proportions this one is. Meh...
