Ozark blues

I had Cat Stevens 'Morning has broken' going through my head.
Lame, I know, but such a sweet and serene song fits this sunrise.
Same sunrise as this one, and so very very fleeting.

No school today

To all my friends in the MidWest and SouthWest right now, may you not be ravaged by the weather too badly.
We are are washed out and have suffered one of our greatest weather events ever here.
Not only did we loose power, phone, and inter net, but we received over a foot of rain and all local rivers have crested at record levels.
One advantage of living on a mountain; water runs down hill, no flooding up here.
Bad news in the road erosion.
I took this picture standing in the middle of this trench, that's our bus (Yes, Inki rides in a bus, how do you think I got my name?) parked up there.
Luckily, most this is fixed enough to work around, and power is clearly back on.

I'll put this in scraps later.

It's quiet worth reading the Wikipedia info about the creation, middling success and now how the (as Wiki eloquently puts it) surrounding wilderness is slowly reclaiming the park.
I can verify that last part.
I barely remember seeing anything with the actual park when it was living, but can always recall driving past those billboards with the characters on them.

It's highly surreal standing on the actual ground, most anything of identification is gone, except for what couldn't be removed because it was bolted down.

I barely remember seeing anything with the actual park when it was living, but can always recall driving past those billboards with the characters on them.

It's highly surreal standing on the actual ground, most anything of identification is gone, except for what couldn't be removed because it was bolted down.

This shot shows the middle of the park from across little lake. So many little painted houses going back to the ground. The Ozark Hills are still worth the price of admission, don't you think?

Heckuva a day in Dogpatch USA

It's highly surreal standing on the actual ground, most anything of identification is gone, except for what couldn't be removed because it was bolted down.

This was a real mill. The wheel has dropped down and it's not functional, the gears inside have come loose.
But the building structure was shockingly strong, and the grist mill sits as pristine inside it. (I have picture proof.)
I have to admit, it was gorgeous for the middle of the Summer. We've had ample rain, so it's really this green.
The Ozark hills, the flowing water, the flowers....

Moon Watcher

FULLVIEW, you'll get to see the sun shining on Birdy's chinny chin chin.
4th of July I was out hoping to catch some shots of the fireworks on the hills around us.
Sadly, it seems there weren't any this year. Bummer, it's fun to seem them on the distant Ozark lumps on the horizon.
But storms brewed up, so I went up on some scaffolding and photoed them.
Then Birdy joined me and watched the moon.
Not the most amazing silhouette shot or anything, but kind of cute.

Gradient Pines

Another perfect short-lived snow that was melting so fast the atmosphere was foggy.
The garden and coop is literally behind this tree line, but it's such a curtain of fog it's hard to see beyond these.
I'm happy with the shot, it was a fleeting chance, and I had been hoping to do something like this for a long time.

White oak sunrise

Another day after the rain, but this was a pretty dense fog off the pond that was so momentary I barely go any shots.
I was actually focused on some water-soaked daisies, and looked to my left, ye gods! That white oak has a halo of light!

Cabbages in the Mist

Not the most artistic shot, I'll eventually move this from my main gallery.
Here's our current gardening status; rain rain rain and cool.
Perfect for our cabbages and broccoli and cauliflowers.
And there behind the garden is the huge 4 pronged oak and over to the left is the pine woods/pet cemetery.

It was down pouring so hard, and the garden is so mucky, but I had my camera is a plastic bag.

Go ahead and critique if you want so maybe I could actually compose a fantastic shot in the future, just don't critique those cabbages.

Return of a Natural Balloon

Our annual visit from our State Balloon.
My only disappointment is after virtually a week of morning with such low humidity that today had to be foggy and damp.
The hills would have been crystal clear otherwise.
but who's complaining with a foggy Ozark hills-scape and a lilac and rosey fog in the valley?

And it was Dinki's first encounter with a balloon!

Mordor mill fire

Okay, that's why I uploaded this [link] to scraps, for people to get a general reference of what they are seeing.
4 years ago =FrockTarts and I opened the door to go to the coop, and the world was blazing red.

The hills, our view from the coop, looked like Mordor.

The mill at the base of our mountain, several miles down at the valley, was on fire.
Well, okay, the copious piles of slab detritus was on fire.
We could smell it from here, and watched lights of emergency vehicles and helicopter whirling around it.

Like Mordor, no if ands, or buts.

For perspective, those pictures are just about taken from the exact same spot and camera setting.

Blue fog 1

A few days into the ice storm 2009.
This is our huge field, more or less looking up the hill.
Behind me is my picture-perfect Golden Woods/maple grove, which is sadly firewood now. (Pics of that to come)
The atmosphere was clear, and the sky a dazzling blue, but this cloudiness/fog stayed around for a very long stretch during the morning.

Ozarks ambience 1

Okay, no puppies in this picture, but on one of my walks I decided to get a raft of ambient woods pictures.
Maybe I'll upload some to my stock account...
anyway, here are some traditional Ozark's rocks and trees or a rather step slope.
The green lichens are at their greenest (and slippery-est) now. In a week a week or two the woods will be quite budded out, so I am trying to get some winter shots before that. More to come.

Snowscape 1

PLEASE FULLVIEW! It's not a huge picture, but you will appreciate the black and white lattacing detail if you full view.
Had a recent snow that was satisfactory enough.
We have our a dozen piles of brush at the end of our lawn, mostly around dogwoods and ornamentals.
Might look ugly for awhile, but it makes homes for uncountable animals and birds, and gathered leaves around the trees, making them healthy and beautiful.

And it makes for fabulous snow photography too.

Uncle Bob wants his tree back

Uncle Bob was miffed his usual perching trees were bent or broken. He spent a morning inspecting them, up and down.
Bob, Babs, and the Bobbettes all showed up, more pictures of the brood to come.

Bend 1

No tweaking or adjusting, this was a strange grey frozen world.
This is a little tree by our pond, that got weighed down when the freezing rain started.
It was not cold enough to free the water at first, and eventually the pond did freeze.
And then there was a dusting of snow and sleet.
At least this fellow just bended and did not break.

Dinki love walks in the woods, but is always left behind.
Especially when it comes to rock climbing. Mako and Cookie (fluffy butts high in the right corner) have quite left the little girl behind.

This is a rather hollow twisted old fellow living at the edge of a forest field. Part of it's top was ripped off years ago, so the gaping hole at the top has been seen filled with owls, hawks, woodpeckers, and various other wildlife.More photography galleries of mine-

UPDATED with a cleaner image and trying to get rid of some ancient thumbnail-views I still have.
One of my all time favorites.

Well, the fog wasn't actually freezing at this point. On the contrary, the ground was warm and evaporating much of the snow.

It was just freezing cold feeling.

But anyhow, the fog effect was just stunning that day. No enhancement or darkening/lighting of this picture.

The White Tree

It's because everyone is doing physical work this week, and my computer sits idle.
I'm just taking advantage of that, and am thinking I'll do a flurry (haha) of winter and Seasonal photos. Huh?

Here's a thoroughly frosted cedar tree.
I just made the piece a little bluer. otherwise, the black and white captured the pure whiteness that encompassed the tree.

Frozen Orchard

Many of the trees in our recent ice-storm suffered.
But the well manicured peach trees remained unscathed.
Frozen, but fine otherwise.
There's no manipulation or toning, it was a strange dead blue at that moment.

Tree bows

The last ice-storm (NOT the current one terrorizing the Midwest, the one before) that gave us ice.
Many trees broke and were shredded. But young pines bend with it, quite literally.
Don't worry, they are back up like they should be.
But we had a whole section of the forest bowing to the ground, which is surreal looking to say the
least!

In the tangle is a bird

I will look up the proper name, but in that tangle is a little woodpecker, doing what woodpeckers do best.

Purple New Year

Hmm, I do believe this was the first day of this year.
Particularly clear sunset, and several layers of colors.

Dead Hill House

A haunted Hillbilly house!
Well, okay, it is located in the pristine national forest, surrounded by Ozark hills.
The old fellow that lived in this abode had sort of an infamous steak of not wanting to maintain his stretch of road and make life miserable for people dropping by in the National Forest area.
Like, sitting on the bridge above where the canoes would float by, with a gun.
I suppose he's no more, and his house looks it.
Sorry about the tree somewhat obscuring the view.

Standing Dead

Standing dead is a term applied to dead standing trees.
Well this one hath been standing for a long time, and the Virginia creeper hath grown up it.
And it looks truly ominous and stern in fog.

Golden Wood 2

Perhaps maples are over photoed, but you gotta admit, they really do not take a bad picture.
The trunk there actually a neighboring red oak, but that blackness is a perfect frame for the blazing leaves.

B-W Maple trunks, in b and w

Loving the new black and white option I have.
Here's some maples from our grove.
The bark in reality is almost pure black and white, and the leaves would normally be dark green.

Wheely dealy cow

I've driven past this thing for years.
I always assumed it was a creative and colorful cover for a tiller or some farming implement.
My dad said he thinks it's cow to practice lassoing on.
If I am wrong, correct me people.
But it's kind of cool looking...
And if you do not think it's cool looking, lookit thee Ozark hills in vapor on a Summer Morn in thee background.

Blue sunrise

I do believe I owe more to a setting on the camera for the blue effect, but it was the first picture I snapped before I started adjusting.
Anyhow, I just love how it made it blue/white, like a star of something.
Foggy Spring morning otherwise.
