-Yes, I have already made a wacky interpretation of Spinosaurus before [link] but I just kept coming with more! So this contest was a great opportunity to depic this enigmatic animal in a new light.
Traditionally spinosaurus has been depicted as an uber land-crocodile on steroids, but I beg to differ. I have already mentioned how I see a hump in spinosaurus as a much more feasive structure than the sail, more in the style of a bison than a Dimetrodon. I imagine that; feeding on a heavily seasonal diet of fish and carrion, the warm blooded animal might need to storage large ammounts of enegy during dry seasons.
-Further down the list of unlikelyness is the quadrupedal posture. Actually picturing the creature alive makes this much more feasible than it would seem at first thought. Most large theropods have tiny feet in comparison with their giant bodies, let alone the particularly massive Spinosaurus (add the fatty hump and it becomes plain ridiculous). The animal looks completely unbalanced in most modern depictions by standing just on its hind legs, as if would fall flat on its face. The price of having a center of gravity much closer to the nose than the vertical center of balance over the hind legs. Now picture that figure leaning down towards a water mirror to catch fish, and there is no possible way it wouldn't fall nose-first into the water.
Besides granting extra support for its weight, the quadrupedal structure would gran extra maneuverability while moving in shallow water. Spinosaurids are already well known for their well developed fore-arms and provided all the advantages they would provide, its not difficult to imagine the spinosaurs with slighlt longer fore arms, moving and acting like a giant grizzly bear.
-At the bottom of the bucket is the old fashioned trunk as it has been proposed for Diplodocus before. Established as a semi-aquatic animal the trunk might be very convenient. I also noticed how brown bears make use of extremely dexterious upper lips, when trying to catch salmon out of the air. Just thinking about that weird crest in the forehead and the high-up placement of the nostrils... got me wondering.

Some pterosaur sketches. Boy, these animals were beautiful and fascinating, I think I like them as much as I like dinosaurs. They are so strange and diverse.
I tried making some different interpretation of some of the most popular species as well as some of the more exotic ones I think are quite awesome..
I was going to inlcude Tapejara and Nyctosaurus too... but meh.

Titanoboa vs Tryannosaurus.

So the other day I saw
[link] This picture, and this guy hellraptor has this collection of basically every prehistoric creature he can think might be placed in Jurassic Park neatly drawn in it's own picture..
Now, many species of dinosaurs are just too boring for me to collect, I wouldn't personally take an afternoon to work on an ouranosaurus and call it Jurassic Park Ouranosaurus. But Titanoboa, that is a real life monster.
My first Idea was to do something more like Hellraptor did, with the snake calmly staring from behind a ruined fence, resting on it's coils under the shade of some tropical plants. It would make a nice picture because thats what snakes spent most of their time doing and would feel realistic and all but then I'm growing bored of "creature standing or resting" kind of drawing.
So I thought, well, nothing says jurassic park (and instant favs) like a T.rex fighting something.
Now I'd really like to paint this one, but my Wacom works just when it feels like and lately it doesn't feel like painting at all.
One day I might paint it.

PS: Yes, T.rex wins. In fact I thought of making a safari kind of scene with a t rex at a good distance from the viewer, walking on the shallow water casually holding the snake in it's jaws. Of course I realized that Titanoboa was freaking heavy snake and would probably be strong and heavy enough to make T.rex trip by adding the weight of a couple of coils around the head and neck of it's attacker. Even then, by the instant depicted here Titanoboa has already had it's lung crushed/pierced and is probably just seconds from dying. The battle might might cause the rex to break an arm from a bad fall and maybe even lose an eye if the snake's counter attack is accurate during it's last moments, but it's still more of a rex preying on the snake than an actual battle of evenly matched enemies.
Also, large snakes are slow and stupid.

PPS: I added the Jurassic Park logo I took from [link] I hope there is no problem with that.. humn.. random blog guy, ok? I think it makes it look more official and says: "Hey, Jurassic Park!" what do you guys think?

Ok, this are my arguments. Because people is very into this T.rex vs C.carolini thing.. but I'm too lazy, so I'm just copy pasting what I written on a forum:

-A meter or two in lenght makes a whole lot of additional body mass when projected into three dimensions.
-Giganoto's skull is 1.92 cm, Rex's is 1.45. Giganoto's is significantly larger.
-Even when T.rex's head seems more hevily built for it's size, remember than strong jaws and blunter teeth are often a trait of scavengers to intimidate and crush bones. (Such as bear and hyenas) Giganoto's more aerodinamic, gracefull and... sharper design lines are the trait of the predator. For much the same reason ninjas don't tend to wield maces, the longer, sharper and seemightly weaker weapons of G.carolini seem more apropiate to strike fast and deep into the bulnerable areas of prey to kill it as fast and efficiently as possible. The crushing and chewing prowess T.rex supporters mention so often are more useful once the target is dead than to actually kill it.
Other than that, I think all the T.rex supporters are far too influenced by the awesome name, all the movies featuring the animal over so many more years, patriotism, you name it, over cold logic and the simple idea that Giganotosaurus just really seems to have been a larger, more dangerous animal

Yea that's right to fricking sauropods (replting to someone who said G.carolini was only dangerous to sauropods :/). Because everybody knows only pussified dinosaurs would hunt the largest animals to ever walk the fricking universe as we know it, way softer than an elephant sized ostrich with bad teeth.
Which gets me to my next point.
Think about their abailable prey.

Were at the time and place tyrannosaurus lived herbivores larger than itself or even of his own size? the ornitischians herbivores that roamed Laurasia back then were hardly near as big as Rex himself, whereas Gondwana's landscape was dominated at the time by the largest herbivores to ever live, the Titanosauroidea, some of them 10 times larger than Giganotosurus.
A regular T.rex might have never seen anything even slightly larger than itself (a female maybe, which would be a chance to make love, not war) and would proabably run shitless if it did.

So all in all, this are not very anatomically different animals any slight advantage is rather subjective, but if they'd meet they would probably think of each other as belonging to their own kind, which is after all the only similar thing they have seen. So, what fallows would be what usually heppens when 2 animals of the same type meet if one is one is larger than the other (Don't even twice as larger, just noticeably larger or bulkier)

T woul say to himself "That is one large and ugly guy, better do not mess with.. not worth it"
And G would say: "Gimme your lunch money, twerp"

I love this animal, and I consider this one to be one of my best drawings ever.
It was hard to learn how to draw this animal, specially because theres is hardly any artist I've seen that I feel represent it in a believable way. there's always something that is not really convincing about each reconstruction. But I'm happy with this one, and this is how I've pictured the animal I came to embrace as a personal symbol ever since.

Here is an old sketch I made back when I was working on A. cabazai. I made this version with this little horns because while reconstructing the official skull of the animal some bone corners such as those stuck out a few centimeters from the rest of the skull. We kind of made those up, in the way that maybe the orbital bones fitted together in a different way, so I was never encouraged to draw the animal this way. But no one can stop me from doing this for myself ^o^

Its been a long time without any submition of what I would call actual art in my gallery. Something I do just because it would look nice, its a cool idea or because I need to level up my skills. This Accounts for those reasons.
Well, the drawings itself dates like many other drawings from... 3 maybe 4 years ago or something, back in my comic course days when I had a time to draw things that just don\'t have anything to do with each other.. I still have drawings from those days I\'d like to paint.

So this is a battle between an Aztec like pre-columbian warrior riding a Quetzalcoatlus and a post-columbian ... sort of Argentinian warrior riding an Argentavis.
Why all of this is happening, I don\'t really care.

ok, me and my friends are a bunch of freaks alright? lets get over it.
Last year I didn't had any gift for my friend Mariano, a paleontology student, on his birthday, so I gave him a coupon good for a drawing... <_< like a year later he still had it on its wallet..
So, months passed by till one day he told me he had spent a day without using his thumbs. Thumbs are an interesting thing, specially for us biology freaks, because we humans think they are such and important thing, just because most animals don't have them and are supposed to allow us to develop our technology and stuff. I had also made another weird ass experiment like that only I used a blindfold ( a big, bad blindfold with some sort of black painted googles inside) for 2 days. So we agreeded to try each others anatomical deprivation experience, but he told me I wouldn't be able to draw without my thumbs. Now I've proven him wrong.
This idea gave me the chance to try drawing without thumbs AND give him his birthday present with and unique participation on his side. It was easier than I espected, there are several ways to hold a pencil without using your thumbs. Coincidentally the dinosaur he wanted me to draw months before he even had the no-thumbs thing in mind was and animal with only 1 finger on each arm, the only number it is impossible to draw without any mechanical assistance.

It's not finished!!
It doesn't look nice because you can see different materials that are not painted homogenously!!

I still have to make a case, make a lighter copy (Its made up of solid concrete and steel reinforcements), paint it, add in some tiny glass eyes, some bushes or something on the base, and... that'll be. It'll be a whOle lot of work.
Ho, yes, a scale on the neck popped out, must fix that.

Gigantosoaurus vs Tank

Well, since I'm on holydays and I hadn't my sketchbooks to work on the projects I should work on, like Tide Bandits, novels and stuff.. I started to draw dinosaurs on modern warfare contexts.
So my brother and eye disussed more than one time if, at least anecdotically, a dinosaur could dissable a tank.
So, I can tell this story with a lot of detail... A tank drives by and is attacked by a Giganotosaurus, it shoots the first one with its main gun killing it, but a second one rushes out of the closest trees before the turret can rotate and take an aim. It climbs on the tank, breaking the suspension and bending the gun when he steps whith is whole weight on it. While it looks for something easy to bite, the beast sees the machingun moving before shooting at him and reaps it off the war engine. As the tank can still move, the animal wrestles with it making difficult for the tank to move properly in the desired direction, but the jungle is thick, and as it's last move, the tank drives into a ditch. Thats it's last place to remain, in a technique the predator used on and on to kill large prey.

I liked that series, Dino Riders ... I mean, you've seen the image... it was about people riding dinosaurs ... with armours and ... guns.. some kind of guns.
What else can you ask for?
Well some violence please! if your technology is so advaced while their your lazers cannot kill as guns do? use real guns! and please, those should be bloodthirsty reptiles from godforsaken world, not care bears.
Hugh, I did had to do it myself. But now we need someone with real talent and plenty of balls to take it to the screen.

He'd be like some insane genius of evolution.

I thought he should be far too crazy and or primitive or ... intelligent to wear any clothes, there seems to be no reason for his acts or else there is a higher plan ahead of all else around. Sort of self-destructive in a way. He is shown here acompaniend only by a pterodactyl and a Prestosuchus.

I thoght long ago about a comic, novel, animation whatever in which each geological period would be represented as a human looking hero or spirit or whatever with total control over the creation and events regarding their particular organisms.
This one was to be Cambrian, but came up to include several creatures from the early Paleozoic, including the Ordovician and early Silurian.
This drawing took a whole lot of time, specially because I had to look for a lot of images as reference to depict acurately what might have been the strangest group of creatures that ever lived in this planet... I mean ... look at those things!, they barely look as if they were from this planet. What I like about this image is that it makes it easier to understand how big, endess and diverse the cambric explotion was, how important and beautiful..

So, that grey thing represents water -_-' I'm not totally happy with that, but if I'd have let it white as it was, it'd have looked as if the sea was made out of animals, and reflections covered the lines and made them confusing... so, I don't know.

Ok, I've been a little busy with monsters, dragons and cannibalizing Kirby, but lets not forget I'm also a paleoartist, Thats my current job... or something like that. So, You know how paleontologists are, they always have something to say about how you made their raptors or their sauropods, so I came out with this idea of a quick experiment on dinosaur design and patterns a la Warhol, to show many ideas and looks with little efford.
So, Its ok, I know the proportions might not be completely accurated, but is just a test.

Ok, this is onother one from the pile of drawings I made about 2 years ago, so it went under severe "plastic surgery" since it was kinda sucky back then (if it still isn't). The girl and the background were the worst parts, the girl looked a lot like Michael Jackson and I had to quit the first idea of making a watercolor-like background since it just wasn't working. I'm content with it now, but ... I dont know, there's something about it I'm not happy with.
