I did not stop my challenge for a day, I am nearly done with the Figurative week by today and a next video, that will contain a lot of ballerina. However, I slowed down updating my dA since I could clearly see that while I can make a painting per day, photographying & uploading it takes another 2 hours.

6th day of 31 day painting challenge. The people & portraits week is nearly over, one more painting tomorrow.

This is a tiny drawing/painting I made with ink, the rough idea was lying around the studio for months and I'm glad I finally took time to finish it. I might be using this sketch to paint a big acrylic later.

I would say more but I'm a bit mentally exhausted so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Oh and if you think of giving a similar 31 day painting project a try, I highly recommend it no matter the tiredness, it really gives you a LOT.

5th day of my challenge today - I woke up very soon again to make sure I'll finish the painting in time plus photograph during daylight. I gotta say, mission accomplished (high five!). I knew this will be a lot of work, I rather picked a smaller size of paper to paint on. It took about 6 hours.

Usually I paint women. I thought this was not on purpose and I tried to paint men now - I successfully made a young one with a crazy grin and an old (sexy) guy, realizing how comfortable I feel to paint a man when he's not young and hot. I'm looking forward to getting a shrink upon this realization!

Regarding the painting, I really loved this face and perceived it as a very cheerful one, which explains my choice of background coloring. Do you think more conservative layout would have suited him better?

4th day of my challenge project went very well. I didn't sleep at all, got up at 7 and finished the yesterday's painting. Than started to watercolour this one and wasted long hours with the facial details just to apply weird and undefined textures of acrylic paint to the background in the afternoon. Not only the painting did not dry in time to be photographed during daylight but the textures I originally created looked worse than my 4 years old daughter would do. How could I do that to such a cute face! I ended up re-painting it blue and putting one more darker layer on top of it. Made a low quality photograph that I would be ashamed to publish if I wasn't more ashamed not to publish an entry during my challenge on time. I still love how the face turned out. I could go on for hours to make it even more detailed, but the time frame is part of this deal.

As you can see, not every experiment turns out for the best. Even though I am not satisfied with the result, I have some more experience now when I'm through today and that's part of what one learns during a project such as this one. On the other hand, you gotta risk it sometimes..

Second day of my challenge project, I nearly didn't finish in time, the painting took AGES to dry out and when it was ready to be photographed, I nearly ruined it with white acrylic that had an accident and splatterred all over my workspace. Luckily this new creation acted bravely and jumped out of the way

My stand on this painting: Yes, it's my favorite dove again, I think I've used the bird in two other paintings but different coloring. This time it contains every color I grabbed, my idea of a "free spirit" certainly contains a LOT of color. Purple is a wonderful, very powerful if you ask me, it makes a statement on its own. I like its ability to cool things down, which is mostly used to create shadows in watercolor. So what do you think? Each commenter gets a Llama today!

First day of 31 day painting challenge, 1st of "People & Portraits" topic! I've sketched this down already a couple of days ago when I was getting back to my eye studies. One of my friends here on DA and I were discussing our favorite colors and we agreed we can't resist the grey blue & dark grey combination, and for me personally it works the best with just a bit of red. Was this a coloring exercise, than? No, I was sure of colors before I started to paint, but there is never enough practice when it comes to watercolor spontaneous behavior and layering. This was two or three, took me 3 hours.

There are many ways to "abstractize" a portrait or a face part. It's what interests me very much and I am not done experimenting (:

First day of 31 day painting challenge, 1st of "People & Portraits" topic! I've sketched this down already a couple of days ago when I was getting back to my eye studies. One of my friends here on DA and I were discussing our favorite colors and we agreed we can't resist the grey blue & dark grey combination, and for me personally it works the best with just a bit of red.
