these are some pages from my 'contextual journal' my adaptation of it is 'yourself and what your work is about in book form'......what would your ideas look like in a book?
my contextual recieved MANY comments at my degree show, especially from other students who find compiling a journal tough. The reason it's tough is that it's personal, no two journals are ever the same and some can be very deep and meaningfull, mine cerainly is.

More prints..The magpie has got to be my favourite bird....I was thinking ...I'm obsessed with black and white animals...when I was younger it was killer whales, black cats, fruit bats etc and mow its magpies lol

I'm a lot like a magpie in many ways I think that's why I like them so much...trying to get a pet one!

This boy I knew found an albino crow chick that was pushed out of his nest and raised it and it eventually became 'mr chalk' in the bbc 'gormenghast' series so I'd LOVE a magpie as a pet!!! *ramble ramble*

These are images of my degree pieces.

This one is etched copper which has been silver-plated.
it is about 8 inches tall and is based on the Welsh legend of Cantre'r Gwaelod (the bottom hundred)

I have made a range of bracelets in pure silver based on this piece, images of those will be put up soon.

OK....these are Images of my Wool and Silk Shrug capes for my Design degree.

I hand-dyed the wool and the silk lining, Silk-screen printed the design on (which is from my own drawings)
then sewed it up too.Oh and I also dyed the cord and the wooden togges and sewed on the leather fastening patches! *lots of work involved*

this one is my wild herb one and it has loadsa little bugs screen printed on the lining inside

modeled by my little sister and Ginny the barn owl who is owned by Chris Seel and (c) To him

Another idea that emerged from our christmas brief...Pyrographed driftwood combined with dissolveable canvas-embroidered crab...the words are from a traditional Welsh poem about Cantre'r gwaelod...a legend about a city that was lost under the sea...

(just for the record I spent an INSANE number of hours with a hairdryer on the piece of wood before it was dry enough to pyrograph!!!!)

We were given a christmas project for uni and this is one of the things /ideas I played with....textiles lining a razorshell found at my home beach.....voile,sequins,silk dupion,free machine embroidered with sateen threads.....

Here are some pix of my Final A-LEVEL DT Textiles pieces. The given brief was
Nature in Design so I got my inspiration from the local rainforest and butterfly
centre-Felinwynt. The top is 100% Silk Dupion that I have silk painted and free
machine embroidered myself....Its based on a Madagascan Comet moth. And the
skirt is a bias-cut Chiffon/crepe type fabric and a nylon overlay with silk and cotton
leaves hand-sewn on top(VERY time consuming and finger-blistering process! >_<*)
It kinda shows monstera leaves,palms and ferns etc...and there are 3 water-soluble
fabric butterflies sewn on too for detail. It has been hinted that I have an A for this
piece but I wont know for sure until results are out, and the examiner too one of the
photos away with him and theres a chance it could be called forward for exhibition
with the best in the country (WOOHOOO!!! ...Totally unexpected but a very
nice surprise considering the hundreds of hours spent on these pieces...)

*The garments are being modelled by a girl in my art class and the photographs were
taken on a really sunny day at the back of our school where the Science department
pond is.*
