Unbirthday Stamp

This is a stamp I have been wanting to do for 2 years. Seriously, I came up with the idea in mid-2011. The date stamp on the emote files in August 2011. Problem was, at that time I wasn't confident enough to do the scenery right. Anyhow, my plan always was to release it on my birthday, as a special "unbirthday gift" for my watchers. But in 2012, I again didn't have the time for finish it. I swore to myself this would be the year!

This is the version from the Disney animated film--my all-time favorite version of Alice in Wonderland. I love the Unbirthday Song! I am really proud of the scenery and background. I tried to do it close to the film version, but had to take some liberties with it in such a small space. Still, I think it looks good. Oh, and I di want to add more animation but there was so much going on that it really made it look too busy to have the dishes bouncing. So, just stuck with the toast of the cups and the text animation.

Thoughts Stolen

"There are no original ideas."

This is a stamp of one of my favorite quotes. It's by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Basically, it means that many (more likely all) of the ideas we have, which we think are so wonderful or great, were done before. And not simply done before, but done centuries ago. Is that a bad thing? No. It just means when you have an idea for that great novel, or that wonderful painting, and you find out it's been done before, don't get discouraged. Just be mindful to give it a spin and make it your own. And don't let the haters get you down when they say "this is just like XYZ" because chances are, so is all of their stuff.

Anyhow, I love the simplicity of this piece and my little "ancient" guys.

A couple of weeks ago, =ihateseptictanks linked me to a meme with this saying. It's a pretty funny (and somewhat common) concept, but one I've been meaning to stamp for a while. iHST asked me to finally do it, and as a thank-you for everything he has been doing to help hold down the fort at #PizzaPixels while I'm hiatus, I decided to.

Avatar commission from =EmmyIsAZebra for her new group, :devpromptbunnies:. Had a lot of fun doing this commission. Particularly since I had to pixel a fortune cookie! Think I did okay on it.

Rawr Means Love Stamp

I'm still alive! Still very sad and depressed, but trying to get past it. Anyhoo...

I really wanted to make a stamp for Valentine's Day this year, but I didn't want something couple-related. Even though I have a lovely husband, I know so many people are single on this day. Plus, Valentine's Day to me is more about showing love to everyone, not just romantic love. Anyhow, this idea came to mind, so I thought I would run with it. Now, I do know there are several other stamps out there with this phrase, so I tried to make mine different with the scrolling hearts and dino-mote.

Submitting it to this category since I think some people might want to used it for the dA Valentine exchange.

Coffee Powered Stamp

She lives! Yep, that's right, I'm not dead and I still know how to make art. I've missed making stamps, so I knew I wanted my next deviation to be one.

Anyhow, over at #PizzaPixels chat, =ihateseptictanks has dAmn nicknames for all the regulars. Mine is "Coffee Powered" which is a play on both my love of coffee and my love of superheroes. Since I know a lot of people can relate to that need for coffee to get going, I thought it would be cool do to a stamp of its.

This is really a collab with *Ravenswd. I did that art, but he did all the animation, including the cape wave and the clouds floating by. He is an animation genius!

Not My Problem Stamp

A few days ago, Howard Tayler (of Schlock Mercenary fame) tweeted about the Polish phrase for "not my problem." It's "nie moj cyrk, nie moje malpy" which, when translated, means "not my circus, not my monkey." I thought this was so funny--and apparently a lot of other people did as it got re-tweeted over 3000 times--that I had to make a stamp for it.

Had fun doing this. The circus tent is a small version of one I did for my amusement park emote a few years back. The monkey is a modified version of Jamocha. Thought the big eyes would work better.

I love this quote to pieces. This one is from Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. This is a quote I firmly believe in. Honestly, so few things are truly impossible. We just haven't gotten to the point where they are possible yet, or simply refuse to believe they are possible.

This is a late (and thus non-competing) entry for the August EMTC. The theme was: deviantART.

I had this planned so long ago. And while it was not a technically difficult stamp, it still took a bit of time. Of course, in the middle of all of that I was at the tail-end of a difficult pregnancy and then birth (and then diaper changes and feedings). For a while, I have wanted to create a "please leave a comment stamp." Of course, I wanted something with a remote, but also something a little more than a request. After I made my "begging" emote (which I intend to upload on its own, soon), I thought that would be the perfect graphic to use.

Anyhow, I hope you all like it. I intend to use this mostly for my Lit, but everyone is free to use it wherever they feel best.

On a side note, I don't create PLZ stamps anymore, because all users can post stamps in their journals and ID boxes. However, since this piece would be well-used in artist notes, and non-subscribers can't use thumbs in notes, I did create a PLZ version.

Princess Saves Self Stamp

Another stamp! After a bunch of pixels. I think I'm getting my groove back!

This is a stamp I wanted to do a few days ago, but there was a DD 6-word story with a similar theme. I was fearful people would feel I stole the idea. This is actually one I've had for a while, and it's similar to this shirt design which is very cool ---> [link]

I should note, I'm not of the radical thinking that women have to be super-powered and always be the dominant one--and can't be a bit helpless sometimes. I don't think a woman should never have a man help her. I quite like having my knight in shining armor swoop in to rescue me. But I also think it's important to be strong enough to save yourself, if you need to.

Anyhow, I've done a dragon before, and even a similar pose to this for my emote journal, but had to modify it all heavily for this piece. Had to create a flying dragon snorting fire and do the sword animation. I didn't want to make the piece too complicated, though, as I felt minimal animation would work best.

Boy, was it a challenge doing that tiny castle in the background--and most of it is obscured. I may upload it on its own later.

Oh, and I specifically created the medieval-inspired stamp base (which is slightly scalloped) for this piece.

Happy 4th July Stamp

Well, I wanted to do a stamp for the 4th of July holiday. Since i already did a fireworks stamp, I decided to do one that shows off the other side of the holiday -- cooking out and doing outside activities with friends and family.

I really wanted to do a flag waving and a plane with a banner. However a normal sized emote would have taken up the whole sky and then some. So I had to make a mini-version I'm quite happy with.

This is a tech collab, as *Ravenswd took my image of the plane and banner and did his magic, making it scroll across the sky and making the banner flap.

Oh, and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my 2 lovely children who celebrate their birthday today! They were both born on July 4th, 4 years apart!

Sticks and Stones Stamp

This is a stamp I have been wanting to make for months, but wasn't really sure how to emotize it. Anyhow, I think it gets the point clear.

I don't believe we should be chained emotionally to what people think or say about us. However, the truth of the matter is that words CAN hurt. They can destroy someone's self-esteem, wound them deeply, particularly if the person saying the words is important to you. That is why there is something called verbal abuse and non-physical bullying.

Anyhow, I know I am way over-sensitive, but it really is hard to hear sometimes, "oh, just suck it up and get over it." It really isn't that easy sometimes.

So, remember, before you say something mean to someone online (and IRL), remember there is another person on the other side of the computer screen who has feelings, too.

Help One Person Smile Stamp

My 200th stamp! (Well, on this account--not counting scraps and my Alt account)

I thought hard about what I wanted to do for my 200th stamp. Something fancy and flashy came to mind. But then I decided on this stamp, which I feel covers every area of my stamp making, as well as my emoting.

This quote is by Harvey Ball, who is considered the creator of the modern-day smiley. To me, that seemed very appropriate. A stamp that was equally stamp and equally smiley/emoticon inspired was perfect. And it's such an inspiration quote, which is really what the core of my stamps are (despite how much some people may poke fun at me for them and say they are overly sappy).

The emote in the piece is not my traditional design, but one I wanted to match "Ball's" design a little more.

Pieces of Heart Stamp

This sums me up right now...to a T.

A lot of people feel that a simple "sorry" makes everything okay, or that just because someone else gets over a situation right away that the other person should, too. Sometimes wounds run deep. Just like the difference between a paper cut and a stab wound--the healing times are far different.

This kinda applies to several areas in my life, not just dA. Sometimes pretending everything's okay is the best way to cope with a situation, but that doesn't mean it's really all-right, or that the hurt isn't still there.

I'm sure others feel this way too at points in their lives. This could apply to expectations and disappointments, to even just those days where you are sad and have no reason. So feel free to use if you want.

I'll leave comments open, but if it gets negative or judgmental, I'm gonna disable them.

Censorship Offends Me Stamp

I wanted to do a "Stop SOPA" inspired stamp, but one that was more general. I saw this quote and it totally spoke to me.

On the surface, it's pretty straight-forward. Censorship is offensive. Period. However, the reason this quote speaks to me is the secondary (and core) meaning of this quote.

One of the greatest threats to free-speech is Political Correctness. All someone had to do is scream they are offended and suddenly the person speaking has to shut-up. I don't believe that. For me, it's the old adage, "I may not like what you have to say, but I'll fight for your right to say it."

It's insane that someone cannot say "Merry Christmas" because some people take offense to it. Or mention religion, or mention an opposing political viewpoint. It's gotten to the point that if someone says, "I don't support your cause/belief/orientation/fandom/whatever" they are being accused of hate-mongering. I mean, c'mon. When we start telling people to STFU simply because we don't like what they are saying, we are one step closer to losing the right to say what we want.

Years Fly Stamp

This is one of my all-time favorite quotes...ever. It's because it is so true. Time passes so fast. I mean, I think of my kids, remember each when they were babies, and now my youngest is 5 and my oldest a couple years from college. *sigh*

The thing is, time doesn't fly by when we are in it. Often it drags. And that is the surreal thing about it. Day to day, the hours tick by and they often drag, but in a blink of an eye, a year...a decade is gone. Amazing, isn't it?

One of a couple of planned entries I have for the January EMTC - Theme: Time. [link] My main entry is still being worked on.

It took me quite a while to do this. It was synching up all the elements. The piece is over 300 frames, because that is the only way I could make it scroll properly!

This was going to be an entry for =sahina-waya's Spriit Week contest, but then I saw that =IceXDragon had done something similar, so I didn't want to compete.

Nevertheless, looking over the gallery, I see quite a few pieces like this (emotes watching fireworks), but none as a stamp. Even though it may appear I "copied" those designs, I based it heavily off of my own "I Love Fireworks" stamp--as well as a comic I did for Bitmap World several years ago.

Let it Snow Stamp

Phew, I thought I might not make it this month and that scared me! I had a much bigger animation planned, but the holidays just kicked the snuff out of me. Maybe another time.

I did want to design a snowflake stamp base, and I did I like it a lot. I thank *Ravenswd for his help with the snow. I thought to put more motion in it, but I think it's nice just having the focus on the snow.

I actually had this done a while ago and forgot to upload. Was just gonna wait until next year, but I ended up not be able to sleep and waking up at 1:30. I was working on some art and my program crashed and I lost an hour's work. So, I'm kinda in a Bah Humbug mood right now.

It's been such a struggle the last few years. Even getting little things done can be such a chore. But, I have really been taking to heart the idea that you simply just keep on going, doing a bit each day, and eventually it will get done. Anyhow, I was pushing some pixels and this little guy came out of it. Seemed appropriate to go along with this quote.

I totally tried to do animation or a moving background on this piece and it simply didn't work. So, going static here on purpose.

I happened to be looking at my recent emotes and realized that my "thinking" stamp kinda looked like Pooh when he is trying to think. So I wondered if I could do a version using the classic Pooh I did for my "wobbly spelling" stamp. I thought it turned out cute and felt it would make a good stamp.

Over the last few days, there have been a few times I've wanted to jump into a few conversations here at dA. Some drama, some just stuff that I'd like to put 2-cents into. But, you know what...it always gets me in trouble. A few months ago, I made a point to just MMOB. I love this quote to pieces. I first read it on the blog of a woman I know. I just think it sums up life so beautiful. The ups, the downs, the goods, the bads.

The stamp itself started from a bad. I wanted to do a wave base--I think it turned out rather nice. I wanted something with water for the quote and this one immediately came to mind. The real challenge were the waves which took a couple of hours to figure out. Thank goodness for *Ravenswd. He took my wave image and made it move all lovely-like.

Thankful Stamp

Thing is, I couldn't decide what I wanted to focus on with respect to being thankful. My family has had such a hard 4 years, but it has made us thankful more than ever for the little things. So I decided to showcase the ones that are close to my heart.

I was going to put art in there, but the emote at the desk could actually be doing anything, including art, so I felt that covered it. I guess if it bugs me, I'll go add it later.

Also, I know that this holiday season, there are many who don't have all of the things listed above. I am hopeful things turn around for them soon. <3

Artist Working Stamp

A few weeks ago I created a stamp talking about how writers arr working when staring out the window.

I got such incredible feedback from people saying that it also applied to other types of artists, as well as dozens of requests that I should make a general use version of the stamp. So, here it is!

I did change up the colors a bit so it wasn't a direct copy of the last one. But I loved the previous design so much, I didn't want to change it much. I hope everyone likes it.

Community Projects Stamp

I happen to LOVE community projects. When I started dA, 90% of my gallery consisted of entries to projects. I hear so many people complain they have no ideas or no motivation. That's what is great about projects. They help you think out of the box. They also allow you to create in a group environment, without the stress of competition. I far rather make an entry for a project than a contest. Anyhow, I recently talked about Community Projects in an interview you can read here ---> [link]
