            </media:community>            <media:description type="html"><![CDATA[ This is a Rain Tree, or Saman.  Early travellers to the tropics reported that the tree produced rain at night. Legend speaks " rains from the branches , are the juice of the cicadas, or Cheribus. The grass is always green beneath this tree due to the way the leaves close at night allowing the rain to fall more easily within its foliage. and thus during the days covers the grass more effectively from the harsh sun. It&#039;s a very huge canopied tree, one of the most symmetrical in the world. covered with tiny pinktipped tufts fron spring to fall. A great footnote on the tree is that it was used in the movie, as well as mentioned in the novel, "Swiss Family Robinson." It harboured the family in its huge limbs where they made an impenetrable fort in it&#039;s giant branches.<br /><br />The canopy of the tree will surpass the height eventually. Apparantly it was Frankie&#039;s 1 year birthday and their humans were enjoying some lunch in the cafe while they reclined in the gorgeous weather. She was always full of life, beautiful and a woman to be reckoned with but her battle with cancer seemed to snuff some of that joie de vive and part of her was lost.  This picture was taken at an event following her last batch of radiation treatments.  I had been watching her all day and suddenly she burst into uncontrollable laughter and I had to grab my camera.  I showed this to her later to remind her of who she is inside, regardless of what happened on the outside and she was very touched. Whether we feel separate from other human beings, or separate from the trees we walk under, the rocks we walk upon, or the creatures that walk, fly, swim, and crawl around us, yoga insists that this separation is an illusion. The life force is intrinsic to all things, and any separation we feel from anything is a separation from that ever-renewing source of sustenance. And most of us have found that this feeling of wellness and happiness rarely arrives through pushing and pulling and molding ourselves into who we think we ought to be. Instead, this feeling of oneness, of being happy for no particular reason, seems to arise when we simply accept the moment and ourselves just as we are.<br /><br />The warrior pose is quinetessential to Yoga and there are several variations of this asana (posture) that represents balance and strength. They have &#039;grab bags&#039; of stuff for $2.00 and I was challenged to get one of these bags and shoot whatever was in it but it has to be postable on dA. They have &#039;grab bags&#039; of stuff for $2.00 and I was challenged to get one of these bags and shoot whatever was in it but it has to be postable on dA. That&#039;s a long time to believe that you have bad luck, so let&#039;s find out the truth behind this one. Long before mirrors were invented, people used to see their reflections in pools of water. Since they had no scientific knowledge at the time, they believed this reflection to be their soul or their other self. And they believed that any interference with the other self would injure it. Hence when mirrors were invented, and they were broken, it was thought that the other self was harmed. And where did this seven year thing come in? For this reason, spillage was to be avoided at all costs. The idea that it is unlucky to do so probably stems from the belief that Judas spilt salt during the last supper. Throwing spilt salt over the left shoulder is linked to its medicinal use. If it could not be administered, the next best thing was to throw it into the eye of the evil spirits that brought sickness upon us. It also serves to point you in the right direction and is a source of spiritual guidance. Even through difficult times, you will persevere. <br /><br />They&#039;ve always held a special place for me and perhaps now more than ever as I work my way through my own metamorphosis.  For those that know me well enough, you&#039;ll know I have a tattoo of a sunflower as well.<br /><br />Legend tells that the Greek sun-god Helios was drowned by his uncles, the Titans, and then raised to the sky, where he became the sun. He was loved by a mortal woman named Clytie, who died of her love for him. When she died she became a flower and followed Helios&#039; daily journey through the sky. The sunflower&#039;s turning as it follows the sun symbolizes deep loyalty and constancy. It is said that if a girl puts three sunflower seeds down her back, she will marry the first boy she meets.<br /><br />A sunflower will always turn to the direction of the sun <img src="http://e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/smile.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" /><br /><br /><br /><br />some techy notes:<br /><br />The "flower" is a metal incense burner and the yellow is actually pollen from a live sunflower. To try to get the princess&#039;s attention and prove his love, he brought her exquisite and amazing gifts from far and wide. One day he came across two magical pink bunnies and offered them both to the princess.<br /><br /><i>At this point, the story teller pulls off the two outer pink petals and sets each on it sides to show the animals.</i><br /><br />The princess was unmoved by the rabbits so, he tried again and presented her with beautiful dangly earrings.<br /><br /><i>The next two inner white petals are separated and held up next to the narrator&#039;s ears for display.</i><br /><br />Still, the princess paid him no attention. The prince was so distraught over being spurned that he took a dagger and stabbed himself.<br /><br /><i>The remaining centre of the flower is shaped like an outline of a heart with a line down the centre. They must be felt with the heart.&#148; ~Helen Keller<br /><br />A client of mine gave me her amaryllis since she was going out of town and wouldn&#039;t see it bloom.  I decided to photograph the bloom for her so she&#039;d be able to enjoy it as well.  I took three shots in total.. one distinctly me and two other &#039<img src="http://e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/winkrazz.gif" width="15" height="15" alt=";p" title="Wink/Razz" />retty&#039; shots.  I rarely photograph what I see.. I photograph what I feel inside myself, so it was impossible for me to go with the other two empty shots. A brief explanation as to why.<br /><br />I&#039;ve loved photography since I was very little but what fueled my passion to the point of pushing my &#039;hobby&#039; into an &#039;obsession&#039; was the discovery of one Joel Peter-Witkin. His images are real, they are stark and to me, they are beautiful. Not so much in what they display, because truthfully, most of what he photographs is weird, macabre and .. grotesque, but it is how he conveys these images that makes them beautiful. I spent hours in that little room, in awe of a master. One who could take the seemingly wrong, the misfits of the world, the darkness, and give it a voice, a beauty that I just couldn&#039;t take my eyes off of.<br /><br />He ignited my obsession and showed me what power photography has! The power to evoke human emotion, the power to make people think. A reeling sensation; feeling about to fall.<br /><br />I am afraid of heights. I am not particularly fond of tall buildings, bridges, flying.. you name it and when I&#039;m in a situation that brings on this fear, the vertigo I suffer is sickening, so it&#039;s almost ironic that I brought it on intentionally to take this shot but I was inspired by a dear friend of mine and decided to challenge my fear.
