portfolio requirement (1 of 3): five-pager open-ended comic based on movie / TV series.

This assignment was given last year, and I thought of doing Supernatural, and then The Walking Dead... but it was hard cos I was just a regular fan, not hardly enough to make me want to make fanwork for any series.

A little over a month ago, I discovered Merlin. I wasn't an instant fan. I finished all four seasons within a week, no big, but by the end of S4... something clicked, so... have ~~a fueled-by-feels Merlin fan comic~~ some sample comic pages. For my studio portfolio.

Sorry if there are mistakes or technical inaccuracies or whatever. It was tough to pinpoint reference images when I have such a bad memory. I wish I could go to tapings and just take photos of everything on set from every angle.

This is 1/2 of my answer to an unexpected prompt from *helloheath! Strictly speaking, she specifically asked for Merlin and Freya's kiss, but as I rewatched the episode to collect precious moments, I realized that there are just too many...

In the end, I had to make two of these! I really wanted to draw Merlin smiling all infatuated and happy. Merlin always had a smile for Freya, so cheerful and sincere, even though the world was crumbling around them. I'd be staring at the screen with all my feelings willing him to stop being so only tiny yet so strong, ENOUGH ALREADY CAN'T YOU SEE MY HEART IS BLEEDING OUT HERE (YOU JERK)!

Merlin and Freya's kiss is in the second piece, which I will post really soon! I think it's officially an art trade now between me and *helloheath since she is also making a Merlin piece for me. Oh, I can't waaiiit!!!

Just saying, I probably won't be making this kind of fanart as often from now on, instead I plan on joining the weekly Camelot Drabble challenge on LJ just so I can regulate my fanart time or else it will take over my life! Please expect more original Merlin fanart in my regular anime-style in the future.

Merlin, again. I chose a sad theme, because I was feeling under the weather the other day. I'm feeling much better now, though!

Sorry, this is the best I could do. I was extremely distracted because of the disco party happening behind my eyes every time I glanced at the source picture. Do you remember this scene? Merlin, smiling through his tears, just, so heart-rending, I can't take it, I wanted so much to ohwaitthisisn'tTumblr.

Still, Merlin breaks my heart into little pieces all the time, no matter the mood of the scene.

BTW, I just love old Emrys! His toothy grin, his explosive cackle, and the way he hisses his words -- aaall of it makes me so very, very happy. But, now that that's done, maybe I can move on to something with Arthur for my next piece? Maybe not as soon, though. Homeworrrk.

I never have the time to draw fanart, but I love Merlin like I've never loved any other series before. I guess he's just the type of hero that I'm a real sucker for. And, dragons -- I adore How to Train Your Dragon just like the next person, but Merlin is the reason that I look up at the clear blue sky and wish dragons were real. Cheese.

This is based on two different screencaps taken from the series. It was supposed to be just a sketch but I sort of ended up cleaning it... It's numbered because this is probably not going to be the last time I draw fanart for this series. I need shading practice anyway, so there you go.

Mother of God, this took forever, like any other drawing of mine... and by forever, I mean much, much longer than what you're thinking. But, it's finished now! OH MY GOD.

Hello, Loves!

This is my contribution to *Moemai's soon-to-be-released Collective Artbook: Myths and Legends. Many popular fairytales were already taken when I joined the project, so I chose Ye Xian, an older, Chinese version of Cinderella, with her tiny feet and embroidered shoes.

I had an idea about the composition from the very beginning, but the colors, well... I didn't expect to use so many hues in one picture. TTvTT This took three weeks on and off! There are parts of it that I really like and some that I don't really understand, because I just went with the flow. Anyway, I've broken an unexpected barrier there, I think.

As for the context, Ye Xian's 'fairy godmother' was a giant fish, and this image is supposed to symbolize some sort of spiritual bond... Sacrifice, gratitude, unspoken unconditional things. Yes, weird. Also, it is my little prayer for our waters and the lovely animals that call it home. Please love the ocean.

Now this is old. So old I don't know how old it is. Probably four or so years ago, when my girls *PeriosRosentwyg, =MsRosek, ~Hellebore and I wanted to make an art book, and I wanted to make a Tarot deck for my characters.

I wanted to make a full-colored Major Arcana but all I managed are three inked and toned cards. So now I would laugh off such a ridiculous endeavor.

This are the main characters from Venom Fang / Shenjie, my original manga which I've rebooted like five times literally. Hahahaha. The final version is ongoing on Smackjeeves:

Barbie is my bunny, and Milk Tea is a girl friend's. These were supposed to be designs for a short story ~aldenliu had written for our grad project proposals.

Top row is my interpretation of Barbie -- "too realistic". Bottom ones are based on ~aldenliu's original designs -- I just drew the turn-arounds and some actions. His designs are more popular LOL that ship sailed a long time ago... See rough test animation for Barbie.

In the end tho0ugh, we ended up doing another story. X3 I'll post photos of the bunnies soon!

Hiatus at the moment cos of design stuff I need to submit for my animation not to get bumped off the list. (You will be forced to join another group if you don't convince the profs that you can accomplish your film on your own. You get to choose if you want to work with a team or on your own. XoX)
